It's not your stereo, your wheels, or even your sunglasses. Now, thieves are after your airbag.

A wave of overnight airbag thefts has prompted a warning from the Ottawa Police Service, as more than a dozen incidents involving late-model Honda Civics were reported in the city's east end the week of April 14th.

In each case, thieves targeted parked Civics and removed the airbags without damaging other parts of the vehicle. Most of the affected cars were locked and equipped with alarm systems.

Later in the day, police said a doorbell camera captured him leaving his residence in his black Mitsubishi hatchback with the Ontario license plate DALW 503. 'It is possible that Edwin may be in the Brockville area,' police said in a news release. 'There are concerns for his well-being.' Police described Fan as a 5'8″ Asian man with a slender build, short dark hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a beige and white zip-up fleece sweater and skater-style shoes, which were 'possibly Vans.' Ottawa police seek suspect in theft of credit card from rec centre locker
Ottawa police are asking for the public's help identifying this suspect following a reported credit card theft in Kanata. (Ottawa Police Service/handout) The Ottawa Police Service is asking for the public's help identifying a suspect in a credit card theft. Police say the victim believes his credit card was stolen from his locker while he was at the Richcraft Recreation Complex on Innovation Drive at around 4 p.m. July 25. 'The victim later received notifications of credit card use that he had no knowledge of,' police said. Police say they obtained a photo of the suspect using the credit card at a business on Caldwell Avenue near Medford Street the next day. Anyone who can identify the suspect or who has information about this incident is asked to contact the Ottawa Police West Criminal Investigations Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 2666. The 63-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, police said. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is being led by the East Neighbourhood Resource Team.
