Gamlins Law Directors Complete Mount Toubkal Charity Challenge
Two directors at North Wales' largest law firm have raised funds for charity after successfully climbing North Africa's highest peak.
Ron Davison, Managing Director of Gamlins Law, and fellow director Dafydd Roberts scaled Mount Toubkal in Morocco's Atlas Mountains in aid of the firm's nominated charity partner St Kentigern Hospice.
Combined with Ron's running of the London Marathon in April, it means the pair have now raised almost £2,000 for St Asaph-based St Kentigern.
Ron and Dafydd were part of a 10-strong group that took on the climb to the 4,167m (13,671 ft) peak. Last year, they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania raising more than £3,500 for Prostate Cancer UK and LawCare, the mental health charity for the legal sector.
Dafydd said:
'The whole trip was a great experience from spending time with the local Berber community through to the final ascent itself which saw us reach the summit an hour or so after sunrise.
'We encountered lots of different weather during the trip from really warm to ice and snow as we approached the summit to torrential rain and hailstones when we were coming down the mountain. Coping with the high altitude also provided a challenge.
'Experiencing life with the Berber community, with their villages set in the mountainside, was also something we won't forget, including an evening eating with our guide's family in their home.
'It was also humbling to see how the communities are continuing to rebuild after a devastating earthquake caused so much destruction a couple of years ago.

Dafydd added:
'We are delighted to raise further vital funds towards the work of St Kentigern Hospice. The team at the hospice made a video for us wishing us good luck and that certainly helped to spur us on.
'We've got further climbs planned in the UK for later this year and are already plotting another trip abroad, possibly to the Alps or Himalayas next year.'
The hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care to patients with life limiting illness, and support to their families across its catchment area of Denbighshire, West Flintshire, and East Conwy. Clinical services are delivered free of charge to patients and their families.
The hospice, which includes a 12-bed inpatient unit, employs 95 staff, supported by a large team of volunteers. It costs over £4.4 million a year to run.
Gamlins Law, which employs over 85 people, has its head office at Morfa Hall in Rhyl and further offices in Mold, Ruthin, Denbigh, Abergele and Holywell.

Claire's revealed on Wednesday (August 13) that it had filed a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators ("NOI"). Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were Red Bull team-mates for a time, and also worked together in the latter stages of the Aussie's F1 career when he drove for sister squad Racing Bulls Daniel Ricciardo has declared his pride in what Max Verstappen has accomplished over his 200 races as a Formula 1 driver. The Dutchman burst onto the scene a decade ago as a fresh-faced 17-year-old, by far the youngest racer the sport had ever seen. But what he lacked in time on planet Earth he more than made up for with his obvious natural talent. It was only a year later, aged 18, that he was promoted from the Red Bull junior outfit and made an immediate impact, winning his first race with the top team. His team-mate at the time was Ricciardo, who had already established himself as team leader at the Milton Keynes-based squad. But that status began to fate as Verstappen continues to shine, while there were moments of tension – most notably when they collided at the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Ricciardo announced in the middle of the 2018 season that he would leave at the end of the year. Since then, their respective trajectories have diverged somewhat with Verstappen becoming a four-time F1 champion and Ricciardo enduring unspectacular stints with Renault and McLaren before dropping off the grid. He was hired back by Red Bull as a reserve and got back onto the grid in 2023 when Nyck de Vries was axed by sister team Racing Bulls. Paul Smith extends Fashion Residency programme to US with CFDA
British designer Paul Smith has expanded his brand's existing Fashion Residency programme to students in the US. In partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), for the initiative's second edition the Paul Smith Foundation will be selecting one American designer to join the residency at Studio Smithfield in London. The inaugural US participant, who will be part of the Paul Smith's Foundation x CFDA Designer-in-Residence, will join six UK-based designers in receiving a 400 square foot studio space for 12 months, supported by Projekt. Each designer will also receive mentoring from industry leaders, business-planning training, a visa, flights and living expenses. Applications for the second cohort of the programme have now been opened, with shortlisted candidates associated with the CFDA-led arm to begin interviews in September 2025. Designer Paul Smith will oversee the selection process alongside CFDA president, Steven Kolb, and vice president of program strategies/education and sustainability initiatives at CFDA, Sara Kozlowski. Launched in 2024, Paul Smith founded the Fashion Residency at Studio Smithfield programme alongside the Mayor of London and Projekt. Through it, select young designers are given access to set workspace and a training programme, the latter designed by the Paul Smith's Foundation, which matches participants with industry professionals. In a statement, Kolb said: 'Fashion is truly a global business, and an opportunity such as this will provide one American talent with invaluable experience and exposure in an international market. The chance to work alongside peers in the UK fosters creative exchange, builds cross-cultural understanding, and strengthens our industry as a whole.
