MBI scam: Tan Sri among three more arrested, RM500mil in luxury assets frozen
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department acting director Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the three suspects, aged 46, 54 and 58, were arrested in Kuala Lumpur and Penang between May 1 and 17.
"The three individuals acted as proxies who run various businesses to launder money accrued from the syndicate's fraud.
"Police have also frozen assets and properties believed to be the proceeds illegally acquired through a Ponzi investment pyramid scheme worth RM527,468,296.11,' he told a press conference here on Friday (May 30).
He said among the assets and properties were four luxury yachts worth RM36.3mil, 477 properties worth RM150mil, four condominium units (RM12mil), 37 bank accounts (RM328,088,127.11) and cash (RM283,070).
With the arrests, the number of individuals detained in the MBI investment fraud case stands at 17, with total assets frozen and seized amounting to RM3.81bil.
Meanwhile, Comm Hasbullah did not rule out the possibility of further arrests and asset seizures.
Asked whether any politicians were involved in the syndicate, he said none had been identified so far but did not dismiss the possibility pending further investigation.- Bernama

Trump's distraction methods fall flat against Epstein uproar
UNITED States President Donald Trump's super powers as a public figure have long included the ability to redirect, evade and deny. But the Republican's well-worn methods of changing the subject when a tough topic stings politically are not working as his White House fends off persistent unrest from his usually loyal base about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. Trump has scolded reporters, claimed ignorance and offered distractions in an effort to quash questions about Epstein and the suspicions still swirling around the disgraced financier's case years after his 2019 death in prison. The demand for answers has only grown. "For a president and an administration that's very good at controlling a narrative, this is one that's been harder," said Republican strategist Erin Maguire, a former Trump campaign spokesman. Unlike political crises that dogged Trump's first term, including two impeachments and a probe into alleged campaign collusion with Russia, the people propelling the push for more transparency on Epstein have largely been his supporters, not his political foes. Trump has fed his base with conspiracy theories for years, including the false "birther" claim that former president Barack Obama was not born in the US. Trump's advisers fanned conspiracies about Epstein, too, only to declare them moot upon entering office. That has not gone over well with the president's right-leaning base, which has long believed the government was covering up Epstein's ties to the rich and powerful. "Trump's been running a Ponzi scheme based on propaganda for the better part of a decade and it's finally catching up to him," said Geoff Duncan, a Republican former lieutenant governor of Georgia and Trump critic. "The far right element is just dug in. They're hell bent on getting this information out." The White House has dismissed reporting about Trump's ties to Epstein as "fake news", though it has acknowledged his name appears in documents related to the Epstein case. "The only people who can't seem to shake this story from their one-track minds are the media and Democrats," said White House spokesman Harrison Fields. Before leaving for a trip to Scotland last Friday, the president again urged people to turn their attention elsewhere. "People should really focus on how well the country is doing," said Trump, lamenting that scrutiny was not being given to others in Epstein's orbit. "They don't talk about them, they talk about me. I have nothing to do with the guy." Trump in recent weeks has employed a typical diversion playbook. He chastised a reporter for asking about Epstein in the White House Cabinet Room. He claimed in the Oval Office that he was not paying close attention to the issue. And, with help from Tulsi Gabbard, his director of national intelligence, he explosively accused Obama of treason for how he treated intelligence in 2016 about Russian interference in the US election. On Thursday Trump took his distraction tour to the Federal Reserve (Fed), where he tussled with chair Jerome Powell about construction costs and pressed for lower interest rates. That, said Republican strategist Brad Todd, was more effective than focusing on Obama in 2016, which voters had already litigated by putting Trump back in office. "The Tulsi Gabbard look backward, I think, is not the way for them to pivot," said Todd, noting that Trump's trip to the Fed highlighted the issue of economic affordability and taking on a Washington institution. "If I was him I'd go to the Fed every day until rates are cut." Democrats have seized on Trump's efforts to move on, sensing a political weakness for the president and divisions in the Republican Party that they can exploit while their own political stock is low in the wake of last year's drubbing at the polls. A Reuters/Ipsos poll this month showed most Americans think Trump's administration is hiding information about Epstein, creating an opportunity for Democrats to press. Trump's supporters and many Democrats are eager to see a release of government files related to Epstein and his case, which the Justice Department initially promised to deliver. "Yesterday was another example of the Trump folks trying to throw as much stuff against the wall to avoid the Epstein files," said Mark Warner, a Democratic US senator from Virginia.

12 Madani recreational parks in Ipoh set for July completion
IPOH: The construction of 12 Madani Recreational Parks (TRM) in Ipoh, backed by an allocation of RM5.4 million, is on track for completion by the end of July. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the progress, highlighting the government's dedication to improving public recreational facilities. Each park received RM450,000 in funding, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park already operational. Nga emphasised the ministry's broader vision of establishing 1,000 parks nationwide, aligning with the Madani economic framework's goals of sustainability and community well-being. 'The Madani government is committed to fostering a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous nation. Quality public spaces are vital for the people's welfare,' he said during the launch of the Canning TRM and a CSR initiative by Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK). A memorandum of understanding between MBI and KLK formalised a two-year partnership to maintain seven TRMs, including Woodland Park 1 and 2 Tambun, Bandar Baru Putra, and First Garden. Ipoh to have 12 new Madani recreational parks by end July, says Nga
IPOH: The development of 12 Madani Recreational Parks here, costing RM5.4mil is expected to be fully completed by the end of July, as part of the government's commitment to providing conducive recreational spaces for the public, says Nga Kor Ming. The Housing and Local Government Minister stated that the parks were implemented by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) following the allocation received from the ministry. He said each park was developed at a cost of RM450,000, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park among those completed in the city. "Under the ministry, we have a vision of 1,000 parks, comprising 1,000 community parks and open spaces in residential areas, to allow local communities to enjoy greener, more beautiful and cleaner public parks in line with the Madani economic framework. "In line with the Madani government's aspirations, we aim to build a nation that is sustainable, competitive, innovative and prosperous. The people's well-being is our priority," he said. Nga said this at a press conference after officiating the Canning Madani Recreational Park and launching the Ipoh City Council (MBI)-Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme here on Sunday (July 27). Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between KLK and MBI to collaborate in maintaining seven such parks around Ipoh for two years. Nga said KLK's teams would visit the parks every two weeks to carry out fertilising, pesticide application, grass cutting and other maintenance work. "The seven parks that will be maintained by KLK are Woodland Park 1 Tambun, Woodland Park 2 Tambun, Canning, Bandar Baru Putra, Westpool Park, Pengkalan Barat and First Garden. This is an initial step.
