Bengaluru Man Fined Rs 1000 After Civic Body Traces Garbage Bag Using His Girlfriend's Name, Internet Reacts

A Reddit user shared an anonymous post about getting fined Rs 1,000 for leaving trash outside his house. As per the post, the bag contained a parcel addressed to his girlfriend, which led the authorities to identify him. With his roommate away and dry waste collection only happening twice a week, he was in a tight spot on the morning of his flight. The trash was piling up, and not wanting to leave it indoors, he bagged it up and left it outside, expecting the usual collection. Little did he know, a parcel addressed to his girlfriend inside the bag would lead the BBMP marshals straight to him. BBMP marshals showed up at his residence early in the morning, informing him that he had dumped garbage on the road and must pay a Rs 1,000 fine. "Cut to today morning, 7 am — cops(most probably BBMP Marshals as mentioned by someone in comments) show up at my place while I'm still sleeping. They told my roommate that we had dumped waste on the road, and we have to pay a ₹1000 fine. The funniest part — they even mentioned my girlfriend's name and said she should pay," the post read. by u/ContributionPlenty17 in bangalore The roommate, who was barely awake, paid the Rs 1,000 fine on the spot. The incident sparked a divided response online, with some praising the BBMP's proactive approach to tracking waste offenders and others criticising the strict enforcement. Reddit users joked about the marshals' detective skills, while others felt the fine was harsh, given that the trash bag was left neatly and not thrown recklessly on the roadside. One user wrote, "One of the reasons I try to destroy the address labelling on the delivery packets." Another commented, "The best approach is not to employ tactics for escaping BBMP. Throwing garbage unattended in public places is a crime. Always take responsibility and accountability for your garbage. OP in this post is trying to appear innocent. But it is due to educated people like OP that India has become a dump yard. OP was concerned about the flight schedule but not about managing his garbage, and he left it in the open area." A third user said, "If the govt is putting in the effort for garbage collection, the same should be the responsibility of the citizens; otherwise, it becomes a mess."

Muslims in UP's Moradabad told not to name wedding bands after Hindu deities

The police in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad have ordered Muslim wedding band operators not to name their bands after Hindu deities after a complaint was filed on the chief minister's portal, the Hindustan Times reported on Thursday. A complaint was registered by a lawyer on July 9, claiming that about 15 to 20 Muslim band operators in the district were running their businesses using the names of Hindu deities, the newspaper quoted unidentified police officers as saying. The complainant claimed that the practice hurt religious sentiments. Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh told Amar Ujala that several band operators in the district were summoned on Tuesday and told to remove such names. 'All of them have said that they will remove the names,' he was quoted as saying. The complainant told the Hindustan Times that the wedding band industry in Moradabad was largely dominated by Muslims. 'Yet many of these establishments operate under Hindu names, including those of gods and goddesses,' he said. 'This is an attempt to distort identity,' he alleged. 'The chief minister [Adityanath] himself has called for action against such practices.' The action taken by the police based on his complaint was not discrimination, but 'legal action', he told the newspaper. This came a month after the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments directed eateries along the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage route to display quick response codes with their owners' identities. The matter was challenged in the Supreme Court, where a counsel for the Uttarakhand government reportedly claimed that the real problem was dhabas named 'Shiva Dhaba' or 'Parvati Dhaba' being run by Muslims. On July 22, the court refused to examine the legality of the directives issued by the two state governments. Similar orders were issued by Uttar Pradesh in 2024. The police in the state's Muzaffarnagar had claimed at the time that the decision was taken to ' avoid confusion ' among devotees who will travel on the route.

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta's security will reportedly be revamped following the attack on her during a public hearing or 'Jan Sunwai' event at her Civil Lines Camp Office, an incident which on Wednesday sparked concerns and questions over the law and order situation in the national capital. Delhi Police officials seen deployed outside the residence of Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, (Hindustan Times) CM Rekha Gupta gets 'Z-plus' category security, according to the security guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), however, police officers suggested it might be upgraded to have 'more personnel' or enhanced arrangements, as reported earlier by HT. According to officials cited by news agency PTI, Centre has granted 'Z' category CRPF security to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta following the attack on her. The MHA guidelines have been outlined in the 'Yellow Book', which describes protection protocols for VIPs and VVIPs. Rekha Gupta's security to be revamped Apart from the above, paramilitary forces have been deployed outside the residence of Rekha Gupta post the attack, with other major security upgrades planned for her, including a ban on people directly approaching her at the Jan Sunwai sessions, according to a PTI news agency. Police said this is to ensure that such incidents are not repeated and security protocols are strengthened during interactions between the chief minister and the public. 'Complainants will not be allowed to directly approach the chief minister during 'Jan Sunwai' sessions,' PTI quoted a police source. The above-mentioned source added that every complaint will first undergo verification before being placed before CM Rekha Gupta. A designated perimeter will also be created to ensure that visitors cannot come close to her, the police source said. What happened with Rekha Gupta Delhi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit on Wednesday said a 'mishap happened' during Jan Sunvai at chief minister Rekha Gupta's residence in Civil Lines, referring to initial reports of a person 'slapping' the CM and 'pulling her hair' during the event. One person was arrested in connection with the matter. Initial reports stated that the chief minister was 'slapped' and her 'hair was pulled' before security overpowered the attacker. However, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, who met Gupta later, dismissed those claims as 'fabricated.' Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Thursday said Rekha Gupta suffered serious physical injuries and was in a state of "shock" after the attack but had been working from her residence. A man from Gujarat, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41), allegedly pulled her hair and attacked her during the 'Jan Sunwai' programme. The accused was overpowered and arrested on the spot. Later, he was booked under charges, including attempt to murder. Officials said the revised security protocol will be put into place immediately and will remain in force for all future public hearings at the chief minister's office.
