Bengaluru's civic body launches clean-up plan to reclaim footpaths, improve hygiene: Report
The initiative, steered by BBMP Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao in partnership with the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), is aimed at enhancing civic hygiene and ensuring walkable, obstruction-free pathways for pedestrians, The Hindu reported.
Officials deployed an array of equipment, including heavy vehicles, tractors, and dedicated cleaning crews working simultaneously across multiple locations as part of the clean-up plan.

In the East Zone, the stretch between Anepalya Junction and Residency Road underwent a significant facelift, the report said. Damaged footpath slabs were replaced, garbage was removed and overgrown tree branches obstructing movement were trimmed. Encroachments, particularly on Kammanahalli Main Road and Subbaiyanapalya, were also cleared to restore pedestrian pathways.
In the West Zone, BBMP teams focused on areas like Industrial Estate, Nandini Layout and Jagajeevanram Nagar under the Rajajinagar and Malleswaram limits. Obstructions along roads were removed, and waste cleared to restore order in these bustling areas, the report stated.

The South Zone operation included the removal of illegal pushcarts and signboards from footpaths in Deepanjali Nagar and near Kempambudhi Lake. In the northern Yelahanka Zone, Thanisandra Main Road, Ananthapura Main Road, and Jakkur Layout were the focus of extensive clean-up work, which also involved checks for single-use plastic and violations under tobacco control regulations, COPTA.
Meanwhile, in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, a thorough cleaning was conducted at Kengeri Bus Stand, coupled with the planting of saplings along Kengeri Lake to enhance green cover. Further south in Bommanahalli, BBMP teams cleared roadside waste from areas like Mico Layout and Begur, the report added.

Throwing garbage unattended in public places is a crime. Always take responsibility and accountability for your garbage. OP in this post is trying to appear innocent. Muslims in UP's Moradabad told not to name wedding bands after Hindu deities
The police in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad have ordered Muslim wedding band operators not to name their bands after Hindu deities after a complaint was filed on the chief minister's portal, the Hindustan Times reported on Thursday. A complaint was registered by a lawyer on July 9, claiming that about 15 to 20 Muslim band operators in the district were running their businesses using the names of Hindu deities, the newspaper quoted unidentified police officers as saying. The complainant claimed that the practice hurt religious sentiments. Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh told Amar Ujala that several band operators in the district were summoned on Tuesday and told to remove such names. 'All of them have said that they will remove the names,' he was quoted as saying. The complainant told the Hindustan Times that the wedding band industry in Moradabad was largely dominated by Muslims. 'Yet many of these establishments operate under Hindu names, including those of gods and goddesses,' he said. 'This is an attempt to distort identity,' he alleged. 'The chief minister [Adityanath] himself has called for action against such practices.' The action taken by the police based on his complaint was not discrimination, but 'legal action', he told the newspaper. This came a month after the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments directed eateries along the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage route to display quick response codes with their owners' identities. The matter was challenged in the Supreme Court, where a counsel for the Uttarakhand government reportedly claimed that the real problem was dhabas named 'Shiva Dhaba' or 'Parvati Dhaba' being run by Muslims. On July 22, the court refused to examine the legality of the directives issued by the two state governments. Similar orders were issued by Uttar Pradesh in 2024. The police in the state's Muzaffarnagar had claimed at the time that the decision was taken to ' avoid confusion ' among devotees who will travel on the route.

The MHA guidelines have been outlined in the 'Yellow Book', which describes protection protocols for VIPs and VVIPs. Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Thursday said Rekha Gupta suffered serious physical injuries and was in a state of "shock" after the attack but had been working from her residence. A man from Gujarat, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41), allegedly pulled her hair and attacked her during the 'Jan Sunwai' programme. The accused was overpowered and arrested on the spot. Later, he was booked under charges, including attempt to murder. Officials said the revised security protocol will be put into place immediately and will remain in force for all future public hearings at the chief minister's office.
