Law enforcement agencies investigating possible undocumented immigrants landing in Fort Pierce

Yahoo25-07-2025
FORT PIERCE — Ten people were apprehended with one more still at large July 22 as a host of local, state and federal officials responded to a report regarding possible undocumented immigrants entering the local waterways, according to local law enforcement officials.
Sheriff Richard Del Toro, standing by the Fort Pierce Inlet under a hot sun, said that about 2 p.m. federal authorities contacted local officials about the incident.
He said a boat being followed by a sheriff's marine unit and the U.S. Coast Guard wound up beaching in the area of the inlet.
'Eleven people were on that vessel, began to basically scatter in different directions,' Del Toro said. 'Ten are in custody right now, one is currently at large.'
David Kahmann, of Fort Pierce, said he was in the area 'chilling out here doing my artwork.'
Kahmann said he likes watching the boats go in and out of the jetty, and noticed U.S. Coast Guard and other law enforcement boats going out.
'Kind of had the notion something was going on,' Kahmann said.
Kahmann said he eventually noticed a fishing boat come up to some rocks and saw people jumping out of the vessel.
He said he saw about six or eight people come off the boat.
A large crowd of law enforcement officials, including Fort Pierce Police and federal officials, milled about in a parking area near the Square Grouper Tiki Bar as a drone took off.

Del Toro said some of the individuals are from Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana, Venezuela and the Bahamas. Three were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
'This is just textbook. This is what … our governor's been calling for, cracking down on illegal immigration, working with our federal partners,' Del Toro said. 'Everyone thinks that we don't have borders here. We do, and it's our waterways.'
Officials ask residents that if they see any suspicious individuals or activity to call 911.

Chiefs Receive Good News on Rashee Rice on Monday

Chiefs Receive Good News on Rashee Rice on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to get back to the Super Bowl for the fourth straight season. Kansas City went on an incredible run in 2024, defeating the Houston Texans and the Buffalo Bills in the postseason before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Despite their sucess, the Chiefs missed the contribution of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The talented receiver suffered a season-ending knee injury, playing four games in his second season in the league. Last week, Rice suffered a groin injury that caused him to miss a couple of days of practice. On Monday, Rice made his return. While the extent of the groin injury has yet to be reported, the presence of Rice is a great sign for Reid and the coaching staff. Rice proved to be one of the best players on the offensive side of the ball for Kansas City last season in the limited time he was available. This year, he'll be playing alongside one of the most talented units the Chiefs have fielded in years with receivers Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Xavier Worthy. But how much Rice will be able to be on the field this season is very much in doubt. Last month, he pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies for his role in a high-speed car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024, and he was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail. The NFL is widely expected to suspend Rice for multiple games at some point this year. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

He appeared in court on Saturday, Aug. 9, but it wasn't immediately clear if he entered pleas. Prosecutors filed a motion to keep him in jail as he awaits his trial. A judge will hear that motion in the coming days, per KOB. Read the original article on People
