Last Updated:
After much delays, the Grand Egyptian Museum is all set to open on July 3. The museum has artefacts that represent over 7,00,000 years of Egyptian history.
Set against the backdrop of the massive Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is finally set to open on July 3 after a series of delays. The museum will showcase the four eras that represent over 7,00,000 years of Egyptian history. Spanning over 90,000 square metres, the GEM is poised to become the world's largest museum dedicated to a single civilisation.
As tourists await the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, here's all that you need to know.
Why Is The Grand Egyptian Museum Important?
The Grand Egyptian Museum is significant not just for its scale but also for its purpose: to preserve, display, and reinterpret Egypt's vast Pharaonic heritage using modern techniques and technology. The museum represents a major step in the country's cultural tourism strategy, intended to attract global visitors and reassert Egypt 's place at the centre of ancient historical study.
The museum is important because it consolidates over 1,00,000 artefacts – many of which have never been displayed before – from various museums across Egypt.
What Are the Artefacts Inside the Grand Egyptian Museum?
The most famous highlight of the museum is the complete funerary collection of Tutankhamun, including over 5,000 objects such as his golden death mask, chariots, jewellery, and ceremonial beds – many of which are being displayed together for the first time since their discovery in 1922.
Apart from Tutankhamun's treasures, the museum exhibits colossal statues, sarcophagi, papyri, and artefacts from across ancient Egyptian dynasties. One of the standout pieces is the 11-meter-high statue of King Ramses II, which greets visitors at the museum's Grand Hall.

'Please do not go to the airport': Florida's Silver Airways shuts down, leaves passengers stranded
In a rather abrupt incident, Silver Airways, a Florida-based airline, took to Instagram to announce that it is halting all operations and is now advising passengers not to go to the airport. This move has left dozens of passengers stranded and flights being cancelled. The bankrupt airline also announced on Instagram that it has agreed to sell its assets to a buyer, and on the basis of this move, flight operations are now halted. After failing to secure a buyer during bankruptcy, Silver ceased all operations following an asset sale to Wexford Capital, which opted not to continue flights. The shutdown left passengers stranded and approximately 350 employees jobless. Silver Airways was a regional airline headquartered in Hollywood, Florida, founded in 2011 after acquiring assets from bankrupt Gulfstream International Airlines. It operated scheduled flights primarily from hubs in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and San Juan (Puerto Rico), serving destinations across Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean with a fleet of turboprop aircraft including Saab 340s and ATR 42/72s . The airline expanded in 2018 by acquiring Seaborne Airlines, enhancing its Caribbean network and adding seaplane operations between St. Thomas and St. Croix. Silver faced persistent financial struggles, including bankruptcy filings in December 2024 and operational cuts.

Silver Airways to passengers on Instagram: Don't go to airport as flights cancelled; researcher says not surprised
Silver Airways , a Florida-based regional carrier, abruptly canceled all flights and ceased operations as of June 11, 2025, advising passengers not to go to the airport, according to CBS News. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The bankrupt airline announced via Instagram that it would no longer serve customers and had agreed to sell its assets to a buyer that chose not to continue flight operations, as part of its debt restructuring efforts. The Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale-based airline, which began operations in 2011 with hubs in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Orlando, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December to raise funds and stay competitive. On Wednesday, Silver Airways canceled 52 flights, per FlightAware data. Industry analyst Henry Harteveldt of Atmosphere Research Group told CBS News that the shutdown was expected, stating, "It was more a matter of when, rather than if, Silver would shut down." The airline served over a dozen destinations in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, and operated a subsidiary, Seaborne, with seaplane services to St. Croix and St. Thomas. Silver Airways stated it would process refunds for customers through their credit card companies or travel agencies used for booking.
