
West Northamptonshire Council launches new blue plaque scheme
Applications are open until 31 March.Nominees must have died at least 20 years ago, made a significant contribution to the area, not been previously recognised with a blue plaque, and have a strong connection to a surviving local site.A panel of historical and cultural experts, alongside community representatives, will review the nominations.The eight plaques could be installed from September onward.Residents are invited to submit nominations through an online form or by emailing hon@westnorthants.gov.uk.

The fire broke out just after 4pm today at a waste management facility on Cornets End Lane, Meriden Depot, Coventry. 1 A specialist high-volume water pumping unit was also sent to the scene Credit: West Midlands Fire Service Emergency crews rushed to the scene as thick smoke rose from the site. Around 60 firefighters, nine fire engines, two brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform were deployed to tackle the flames, which were tearing through three quarters of the 80-metre by 40-metre building. A specialist high-volume water pumping unit was also sent to the scene. A spokesperson said: 'We were called to a significant fire involving a large building at a waste management facility in Meriden. "Crews are working hard to protect the rest of the building, and liaising closely with on-site staff to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.' As of 6pm, the incident was still ongoing. No injuries have been reported. Locals have been urged to avoid the area while crews continue to work. More to follow... Combine harvester destroyed in Rushmere St Andrew fire
A combine harvester has been destroyed after catching fire in a farmer's field. Suffolk Fire Service was called to Rushmere St Andrew near Ipswich, Suffolk at about 22:30 BST on engines were sent to the field, off Holly Lane, and the fire was put out by crews wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel service said no-one was injured and the fire was deemed to have been started accidentally.
