Ahead of extreme heat in Wisconsin, WisDOT warns of pavement buckling conditions
(WFRV) – With extreme heat in Wisconsin's forecast over the next few days, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are warning drivers of pavement buckling conditions.
WisDOT officials are reminding drivers to be alert and cautious as the extreme heat can lead to prime pavement buckling conditions, especially after the weather goes from cold to very hot.
In certain weather conditions, the slabs of pavement can expand and push against one another, causing the pavement to buckle and create unexpected bumps or dips.
WisDOT shares the importance of burn management
WisDOT provided the following tips on being cautious during these weather conditions:
Slow down, buckle up, and focus your full attention on the roadway.
Watch for slowing traffic and be ready to move over for all roadside workers, including highway crews, as they repair damaged pavement.
Before your trip, check the 511 Travel Information system (511wi.gov) for the latest on any incidents or delays.
If necessary, report serious pavement issues by calling 911. Be ready to provide specific location information.

I felt like we could have started that game — from the third inning on, I felt like it was very manageable, so it just felt like we could have started that game a little bit later. "Whether this is true or not, I think that I like all my guys to be fresh behind me. Not saying they're not fresh for Game 2, but it's just more about my mental buy-in — that I know our guys are ready to go. I'll always throw Game 1." Advertisement The only way Skubal wouldn't throw Game 1 is if a pitcher with more MLB service time — such as right-hander Jack Flaherty, for example — demanded the first game of a doubleheader. Skubal has performed slightly better in day games compared to night games in his 121-game career, posting a 3.04 ERA in day games and a 3.29 ERA in night games. That's not why he chose Game 1. It's just his preference for all doubleheaders. "Starting the second game of a doubleheader when it's straight is tough because it's 40 minutes after the first game ends," Skubal said, "but who knows when the first game ends? I start my routine two hours before the game. It's a little bit different when you don't know the second game time. That's why I just prefer to throw Game 1, if I have any say in it." Severe thunderstorm watch in effect Thursday [Updated]
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch Thursday afternoon for Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties that is in effect until 9 p.m. Also included are 16 counties in New Jersey, including Camden, Mercer and Gloucester. At 3:56 p.m. the NWS reported severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Manheim to Millersville in Lancaster County to to Stewartstown, York County, moving east at 25 mph and issued a severe thunderstorm warning for those counties. The storms included 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail. Heat advisories for Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties issued yesterday were extended to 8 p.m.

Vegetation fire spreads to cars and home in Modesto
MODESTO — A grass fire spread to a home in Modesto on Thursday, officials said. It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the area of East Hatch Road and Stonum Road. Modesto Fire said the flames from a grass fire spread to a fence and multiple cars before spreading to a house. It was not yet clear how much damage the fire caused to the home. The fire, which was upgraded to a fourth-alarm fire, has since been contained and extinguished. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Further west along Hatch Road, a small grass fire earlier in the day forced evacuations along the Tuolumne River. That fire was quickly out and there were no reports of injuries, but at least one home was damaged.
