Wisconsin Department of Transportation warning residents of fake DMV link scams
(WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's (WisDOT) Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced on Tuesday that there has been a recent uptick in a phishing scam involving fraudulent websites sent by people pretending to work for the department. The recent scam usually involves a message citing either a 'final notice' or an unpaid traffic violation, neither of which is real; however, they mimic official WisDOT content and are not from the Department. 'Nothing is urgent enough to destroy their life': Sheriff in Wisconsin catches driver going 105 mph in a 55 zone On Monday, the DMV noted a rise in calls from customers asking about the messages, just a few months after these types of scams hit Wisconsinites in March and April. Other states are experiencing similar things, Tina Braddy, the DMV's Bureau of Driver Services Director, said in a release. 'We're hearing from our DMV counterparts that Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Georgia and New York were hit with this scam last week,' Braddy said. 'Given the number of calls we're getting from DMV customers, it's likely Wisconsin is the next target.' Residents should be on the lookout, the DMV said, and follow the following tips: Be suspicious of any message that promptly demands money Never share personal details with unknown senders Do not respond, especially if you never signed up to receive emails or messages from the DMV Sign up for activity alerts through the official DMV website, available here. SUAMICO, Wis. (WFRV) – After over two months of searching and awaiting the return of runaway Louie, the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park says it has ended efforts to locate the missing otter. Louie and Ophelia went missing after escaping their habitats on Thursday, March 20, but on March 28, the . Wisconsin Department of Transportation warning residents of fake DMV link scams Unfortunately, the search for Louie has been unsuccessful, and as of May 30, the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park said that they will no longer continue search efforts for the missing otter. 'Due to the length of time that Louie has been missing, we believe he has made the decision to be a wild otter,' the post said. 'We accept this, although we would, of course, welcome him home if he decides to return.' In the nearly 2.5 months since Louie's adventure away, he has not been spotted in the same yard or area of search efforts. Had he been spotted, traps would've been set to bring him home. However, the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park mentioned that enough reports of sightings in similar areas lead staff to believe Louie will be just fine to survive as a wild otter. They're debating whether to re-build a raised freeway or build something at ground level. What we know The elevated freeway is roughly 55 years old. The Wisconsin DOT says more than 70,000 drivers travel on the interchange every day. The meeting is an opportunity for the public to learn the latest about the study, understand the process, preview the defined alternatives and engage with WisDOT staff and representatives. The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown. Gov. Evers continues annual statewide 'Pothole Patrol' Tour in Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Gov. Tony Evers made a stop in Oshkosh as part of his annual 'Pothole Patrol' tour, highlighting the need for continued investment in Wisconsin's roads, bridges, and infrastructure in the upcoming state budget. Now in its fifth year, the 'Pothole Patrol' tour gives the governor a chance to meet with local public works crews and transportation leaders, while also drawing attention to the state's ongoing infrastructure needs. This year's visit was joined by representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and local officials. Cops, kids & kindness: 'Lemonade With The Law' kicks off in Oshkosh Since taking office in 2019, Gov. Evers has made infrastructure a top priority, overseeing improvements to more than 8,600 miles of roads and 2,000 bridges across the state. To put that in perspective, that's enough road to drive from Wausau, Wisconsin, to Disney World in Florida and back, three times. 'Infrastructure isn't just about fixing potholes. It's about making sure our communities can grow and thrive,' Gov. Evers said. 'We've made historic progress, but there's still more work to do.' In his 2025-27 Executive Budget, Gov. Evers proposed over $2.6 billion for the State Highway Rehabilitation Program, marking a $397 million increase from the previous cycle. Other key transportation proposals in the budget include: $100 million for the Local Roads Improvement Supplement Program; $50 million for the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program (ARIP); $790 million for major highway development, including I-41 and I-43 expansions; More than $300 million to continue work on the I-94 East/West project; Increases to general transportation and county forest road aid programs. 'Strong infrastructure means safer roads, more jobs, and better opportunities for families and businesses across Wisconsin.'
