Stalin holds one to one meet with functionaries

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin kicked off his one to one interaction with party functionaries from assembly constituencies on Friday at the party headquarters here as part of his measures to strengthen the rank and file ahead of 2026 assembly elections. It was the turn of functionaries from three assembly constituencies – Chidambaram, Villupuram and Usilampatti, who met Stalin on the first day of the initiative titled 'Udanpirappe Vaa.' DMK sources said Stalin met those functionaries together but spoke to each of them and sought their views on the party's strength as well as challenges in their respective constituencies. There were union, town and branch secretaries with whom Stalin spoke for about roughly five mts each. He was particular about the reach of the govt's welfare schemes and their impact among the voters. Stalin had also sought to know the expectation of the people in those constituencies. In addition, he asked about the functioning of the MLAs and whether there were any intra party tiffs among functionaries. DMK men said that Stalin gave a patient hearing to all that they said and asked them to work harder for the success in 2026 polls. The functionaries had also requested Stalin to retain a few segments that were allotted to allies in the 2021 election with DMK in 2026. Stalin had reiterated the significance of booth level election work and the need to convince people to support DMK. While the exercise has come as a morale booster for the functionaries as they met Stalin in close quarters and interacted, it is also intended to assess the performance of the sitting MLAs and decide on the candidates for the assembly election, say partymen. Stalin requests Delhi Chief Minister to support Tamil families displaced from ‘Madrasi Camp'

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to his Delhi counterpart Rekha Gupta, requesting her to extend support for Tamil people in 'Madrasi Camp' in New Delhi, whose unauthorised habitations in Jangpura were being demolished by the Delhi Development Authority. The economically weaker section (EWS) flats in Narela, which were allotted to the displaced, were 20 km away from their places of work and were 'unfit' for occupation owing to incomplete provision of essential services, he contended. A delegation comprising Sriperumbudur MP T.R. Baalu, Tamil Nadu's Special Representative in New Delhi A.K.S. Vijayan, and Resident Commissioner of Tamil Nadu House in Delhi Ashish Kumar handed over the letter to Ms. Gupta in the national capital on Friday. The demolition of Jangpura's Madrasi Camp since June 1 has rendered 370 Tamil-origin families, who for decades have contributed significantly to Delhi's economy, homeless and destitute, Mr. Stalin pointed out in his letter. He further made four specific requests. He urged the Delhi Chief Minister to complete and hand over the 189 EWS flats to the entitled families, fast track construction of community infrastructure, and provide dedicated transport services. Mr. Stalin requested the extension of the EWS housing eligibility, under the Slum and JJ Rehabilitation Policy, to the remaining 181 displaced families by granting a special-case relaxation of income ceilings, domicile requirements, and deposit obligations. He sought the establishment of a provisional Tamil-medium schooling by sanctioning a temporary DTEA (Delhi Tamil Education Association) school at Pocket G-7 with immediate enrolment and dedicated transport, or by authorising Tamil instruction at a nearby MCD school with reserved seats and interim transport until permanent facilities were ready. Mr. Stalin requested for mobilising livelihood support through vocational training and micro-enterprise grants, especially for the displaced women. As per the Delhi High Court's orders, a joint survey certified 189 families as eligible for EWS flats, he said. The High Court had also directed the Government agencies (DDA and DUSIB) to complete all essential services like water, electricity, sanitation, internal roads, drainage and street lighting in Pockets G-7 and G-8, Narela where the alternative accommodation has been provided. The HC further mandated the Delhi Government to ensure immediate admissions for displaced children in nearby Government and MCD schools, establish Primary Healthcare Centres and Fair-Price Shops, and arrange requisite DTC and Metro transport links in accordance with the 2016 policy. 'Regrettably, although 189 families have been formally allotted EWS flats in Narela, the units remain unfit for occupation owing to incomplete provision of essential services. These sites lie nearly 20 kilometres from many beneficiaries' places of work, yet no dedicated transport services have been provided,' Mr. Stalin said. Educational arrangements for over 150 Tamil-medium children have not been implemented in accordance with the Court's directives. 'In the absence of these amenities, household earners—particularly women—remain unemployed and students face imminent disruption to their studies, compounding the dislocation distress of this vulnerable community. The remaining 181 families have not been provided any alternative accommodation and have been left homeless,' he added.

Keeladi findings don't serve the script of ‘BJP-RSS ecosystem', says Chief Minister M.K. Stalin

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday charged that the 'BJP-RSS ecosystem' recoiled from the archaeological findings from Keeladi in Tamil Nadu not because evidence was lacking, but 'because the truth does not serve their script.' Mr. Stalin's comments were made a few days after Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat contended that the findings from Keeladi were not technically well-supported. In a social media post, Mr. Stalin cited a newspaper report on archaeological findings from Keeladi site, which reiterated the findings published by the State Archaeology Department in its 2019 report 'Keeladi-An Urban Settlement of Sangam Age on the Banks of River Vaigai' on the site's 6th Century connection based on carbon dating. 'Ample proof' Mr. Stalin said: 'Even when confronted with carbon-dated artefacts and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) reports from international laboratories on the Keeladi excavations, they continue to demand 'more proof'. And here is the 'Proof'.' 'Despite strong opposition from respected historians and archaeologists, the BJP continues to promote the mythical Sarasvati Civilisation. They do so without credible evidence, while dismissing the rigorously proven antiquity of Tamil culture,' Mr. Stalin contended. He added: 'We fought for centuries to unearth our history. They fight every day to erase it. The world is watching. So is time.' Minister Thangam Thennarasu (holding the archaeology portfolio) in a social media post, too cited the newspaper report about the findings from the Keeladi site, which said that the radiocarbon dating traced the site's origin to 580 BCE (as published in the 2019 report). 'For those who point to insufficient evidence, it has been the history of the Tamils to prove them scientifically with evidence.' He recalled that the DMK government, which had been demonstrating the antiquity of the Tamil land using archaeological evidence backed by science, had increased the allocation to archaeology from ₹5 crore to ₹7 crore. Recently, the Archaeological Survey of India, under the Union Ministry of Culture, directed its archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who unearthed an ancient civilization in Keeladi, to resubmit his report about the excavation after making necessary corrections for taking further action. However, Mr. Ramakrishna stood by his report.
