The other terrorists killed in the action have been identified as Jibran, who was allegedly involved in the Sonamarg Tunnel attack last year, and Hamza Afghani.

As many as 26 people, mostly tourists, were shot dead by terrorists at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, which prompted the armed forces to launch Operation Sindoor on May 7 against the terror infrastructure in Pakistan.
The bodies of the slain terrorists were brought from the encounter site to the PCR here late Monday.
The NIA team is taking witnesses in batches of two to three people "for ensuring a cent per cent confirmation that the slain terrorists include Sulieman Shah", officials said.
Meanwhile, the operation is ongoing as intelligence inputs have suggested the presence of another group of terrorists in the area, officials said.
Jibran was allegedly involved in the terror strike at the Sonamarg tunnel project at Gagangir in October last year. Seven people, including a doctor, were killed in the attack.
An M4 carbine rifle, two AK rifles and other munitions were seized from the site of Monday's encounter.

Academics have expressed outrage after Mumbai's St Xavier's College cancelled the annual Stan Swamy memorial lecture following objection from right-wing students' organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which said that Father Stan Swamy was accused of committing 'anti-national conspiracies'. The memorial lecture, hosted by St. Xavier's College's department of inter-religious studies (DIRS), was to be delivered virtually on August 9 by Fr. Prem Xalxo, associate lecturer, faculty of theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, on 'Migration for livelihood: Hope amidst miseries.' 'The lecture was cancelled as the college wished to avoid disruptions during the lecture and also unnecessary controversy over the issue, which is not even central to the college's educational offerings,' Fr. Keith D'Souza, S.J., Rector, St, Xavier's College, said in a media statement. Father Stan Swamy was a tribal rights activist and Jesuit priest. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019 on charges related to the Bhima Koregaon violence. He was in state custody when he passed away in a Mumbai hospital in 2021. 'Important to keep Father Stan's memory alive' 'The allegations levelled by ABVP are totally unfounded. Both the Pune Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had, for more than five years, been unable to prove any charges in a court of law. Only allegations were levelled. What the ABVP is claiming now is totally wrong,' Jesuit priest Dr. Frazer Mascarenhas S.J, former principal of St. Xavier's College, told The Hindu. He said that it was important to keep the memory of Stan Swamy alive as it signified the importance of tribal rights and the constitutional empowerment of tribals. 'That is what father Stan was fighting for, with respect to land. He had gone to the Supreme Court for helping the tribals understand their own land rights. His PIL, filed for the release of thousands of young Adivasis who were put behind the bars for speaking for their land, was heard in the Jharkhand High Court. It was due to this PIL that many tribals were released,' he said. 'After giving up academics, Father Stan dedicated a large part of his life to the empowerment of tribals. Even while speaking, we refer to Adivasis as the indigenous people who were the earliest settlers. These are the people who definitely need our support. That is what Father Stan stood for,' Mr. Mascarenhas said, expressing sadness at the cancellation of the memorial lecture. Conspiracy to instil anti-national ideology: ABVP The ABVP said it strongly condemned the decision to organise the memorial lecture. 'Such a lecture is a conspiracy to instil anti-national ideology in the college campus. This lecture glorifies the person who was declared the main accused in the Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case, and against whom charges have been filed under UAPA [Unlawful Activities Prevention Act] 1967,' a letter signed by Prashant Mali, secretary of ABVP Mumbai, on August 4, claimed. 'Organising a lecture in memory of a person who was a key accused in serious crimes, like UAPA, including contact with the banned CPI (Maoist), financing and recruiting armed Naxalite groups, and seizure of documents containing a conspiracy to overthrow the constitutional government through armed uprising, is glorifying the Naxalites,' it stated in the letter. The ABVP said the letter was handed over to the principal of St. Xavier's College. 'We did not organise any protest. We only gave the letter saying that it was extremely sad that prestigious colleges like St. Xavier's are trying to encourage Naxalite ideas by glorifying a person accused of committing anti-national conspiracies. The college did not get back to us. But we heard media reports that the event had been cancelled,' an ABVP representative told The Hindu. The letter had demanded the cancellation of the lecture and and also appealed to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, and the Higher Education Minister of Maharashtra 'to take immediate action against such activities and ensure that such activities are not used by educational institutions to propagate leftist, anti-national ideas'.

Speeding Thar kills man, wounds another after ramming into pavement in Delhi's Chanakyapuri — Watch
In yet another incident, a man was killed and another person wounded on Sunday morning after a speeding SUV rammed into a pavement and hit them near the Gyarah Murti landmark in Chanakyapuri area of Delhi. According to the police, the incident took place when a white Thar coming from the direction of central Delhi swerved towards the pavement and struck the two men. The two victims were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where one was declared brought dead while the other is undergoing medical treatment. Both men were walking along the pavement when the SUV suddenly swerved towards them, climbed onto the pedestrian path and hit them. The incident was captured on camera. The vehicle, which has a Uttar Pradesh registration number, was seized and the SUV driver was apprehended. The accused has been identified as Ashish, a resident of Shakarpur in east Delhi. He was returning home from Dhaula Kuan when the accident took place. According to the preliminary probe, Ashish was driving his friend's Thar at the time of the accident. The SUV is registered in the name of Ankit, a resident of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh. A police patrolling party was in the vicinity and witnessed the accident around 6.30 AM, reported news agency PTI citing a senior police officer. "One of the policemen immediately made a PCR call and requested for an ambulance. The injured were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre without delay," the officer said. "Preliminary inquiry has revealed that Ashish was heading towards his residence in Shakarpur. His occupation status is unclear at the moment, though he has previously worked as a driver," the officer said. The police further said that they are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact sequence of events. Three persons died after their motorcycle rammed into a stationary truck at Lakra Kocha in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district in the early hours of Sunday, reported PTI. The accident took place around 3.30 AM when they were on their way to Jamshedpur from Chaibasa, a police officer said. A police team took them to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared them dead, SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said. The deceased were residents of Jamshedpur.

Afghan security forces discover weapons, ammunition in Paktia province
Afghan security forces have discovered a large amount of weapons and military equipment in the eastern Paktia province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said on Sunday. The items were seized during a series of operations on the outskirts of Samkani and Ahmad Khil districts, the ministry said. Earlier on August 4, Afghanistan police authorities discovered arms and ammunition, including a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG), in western Afghanistan's Farah province, the provincial police office said in a news release. The weaponry, including an AK-47, an RPG, four hand grenades, projectiles and other military equipment, was found in a house in Khak-e-Safid district, the news release added. In a similar incident on July 27, the Afghan security forces discovered a mass weapon and ammunition cache in southern Afghanistan's Uruzgan province, seizing various types of arms along with a large quantity of ammunition. Acting on a tip-off, the security personnel launched an operation based on intelligence reports in Tirin Kot, the capital of Uruzgan province, and discovered weapons, including six AK-47 rifles, a heavy machine gun, PK machine guns, rocket launchers, and hundreds of hand grenades. Additionally, a substantial amount of ammunition and military equipment has been seized during the operations. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case, Xinhua news agency reported. The Afghan interim government has rounded up thousands of arms and a huge quantity of ammunition as part of efforts to stabilise the security situation across the war-ravaged country over the past three-and-a-half years. On July 24, police discovered some 200 pieces of light and heavy firearms in the eastern Afghanistan Paktia province, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA). The weaponry, according to the state-owned media outlet, includes 97 Kalashnikovs, seven M16-type assault rifles, 86 stock pistols, seven rocket launchers, and many more types of arms and ammunition. The official media outlet cited the police as adding that no one has the right to keep or carry arms illegally. In similar operations, police reported the discovery of arms and ammunition, including an anti-aircraft gun, in Afghanistan's northern Samangan province.
