Parents arrested after their 1-year-old tests positive for fentanyl and THC

The parents of a 1-year-old child have been arrested after the child tested positive for fentanyl and THC in California, authorities said.
The incident occurred on April 22 when deputies from the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) responded to a report of a medical emergency where a 1-year-old child had reportedly choked and temporarily stopped breathing at a residence near Dutch Mine Road in Jamestown, California, according to a statement from the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

The child was revived on scene, police said, before being taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and later released to their parents.
'The following day, Wednesday, April 23, just before 4:00 in the afternoon, TCSO received a report from Child Welfare Services stating that the child had been brought back to the hospital for a second time on Tuesday by their parents—22-year-old Rory Kerr and 32-year-old Denaun Davis—after becoming unresponsive,' authorities said in their statement regarding the case. 'During this visit, the child was administered CPR, successfully resuscitated, and later transferred to an out-of-area hospital for treatment related to Fentanyl poisoning after testing presumptively positive for Fentanyl and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).'

TCSO Detectives 'immediately launched an investigation,' authorities said, working on it through the evening into the early morning hours the next day before issuing multiple warrants for the parents of the child.
'Detectives executed the search warrant and located numerous items of drug use paraphernalia containing narcotics residue, along with a used Narcan, inside the motorhome where the family lived,' police said.

During their investigation, officials discovered evidence that one of the child's parents had administered Narcan during the medical emergency, police said.
Davis and Kerr were arrested and taken to the Dambacher Detention Center, where they were booked on felony child abuse charges, including abuse likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

The child involved in this case has since been placed in protective custody.
'We want to remind the public that while Narcan (naloxone) is a critical and often life-saving tool in reversing the effects of opioid overdoses, including those caused by Fentanyl, it is not a substitute for proper medical care,' TCSO said. 'Narcan is temporary in nature and can wear off while dangerous levels of narcotics remain in the body. If you or someone else has been exposed to a suspected overdose, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention—even if Narcan appears to have worked. Being honest and forthcoming with emergency responders and healthcare professionals about potential drug exposure is critical to receiving appropriate and timely treatment.'

'We want to thank our community partners including Child Welfare Services and Adventist Health Sonora for their assistance and clear lines of communication which were critical to life-saving measures and a successful investigation,' police said.
This remains an active investigation, and no further details will be released at this time.

Fourth wrongful-death lawsuit filed against men accused in 2024 deaths of Chiefs fans

A Lebanon, Missouri woman is suing two men facing charges in the drug-related deaths of her son and two other men. It marks the fourth wrongful-death lawsuit against the pair. Norma Chester, the mother of 38-year-old Ricky Johnson, filed the suit on Monday against Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson, who are accused of supplying drugs at a Kansas City Chiefs game watch party at Willis' home in January 2024. Johnson and two other men, 37-year-old David Harrington and 36-year-old Clayton McGeeney, died of fentanyl and cocaine toxicity, according to an autopsy report. The three men were found dead in the backyard of a Northland home after McGeeney's fiancee told police that after she hadn't heard from McGeeney, she broke into the home's basement. In the back porch area, she found a dead body. Willis and Carson were charged with two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and three counts each of first-degree involuntary manslaughter in March, according to Platte County court documents. Chester is seeking damages on behalf of Johnson's three children, according to the lawsuit. The woman is suing on counts of negligence. Similarly to three other wrongful death lawsuits filed against the men, the June lawsuit alleges Willis and Carson 'knew or should have known that decedent was experiencing negative side effects from cocaine and/or fentanyl,' according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also alleges the pair failed to render aid or attempts to rescue the three men from the 'impacts caused by the cocaine and fentanyl.' Other wrongful-death lawsuits against Willis and Carson have been filed by Johnson's father, 64-year-old Rickie Johnson; McGeeny's mother, Nancy Bossert; and Harrington's father, Jon Harrington. Willis' attorney, John Picerno, previously told The Star that Willis maintains that he did not supply drugs at the watch party. Willis' DNA was found on a bag of cocaine at the scene and Carson's DNA was found on a bag of fentanyl, according to court documents. A hearing for the case is set to be held on Sept. 12, 2025. The Star's Kendrick Calfee, Nathan Pilling and Andrea Klick contributed reporting to this story.

Fentanyl trafficker gets 47 months after Burlington chase

BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – A man was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute. Kajuan Woods, 36, appeared before a federal judge for the District of Vermont after several police encounters last year. He was sentenced to 47 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. According to court records, Woods was in an apartment on St. Paul Street in Burlington when law enforcement searched the place as part of an ongoing investigation in January of 2024. Woods was wearing a satchel at the time which contained nine grams of fentanyl and over $1,100 in cash. Massachusetts woman arrested on attempted murder charge in Waterbury Woods was involved in a second incident in May 2024 when South Burlington police encountered him and a woman passed out in a vehicle while it was running. The vehicle was found to contain nearly an ounce of suspected cocaine, a stolen Apple MacBook Pro, and over $2,400 in stolen clothing as well as a partially loaded magazine for a gun. Woods provided a false name to police during the incident. In a third event, Burlington police responded to reports of a man threatening a woman with a gun, and found Woods with a woman in a car. Woods ran from the police through residential backyards, but they quickly caught up with him and arrested him on a federal warrant. At the time, he had a bullet in his pocket and over an ounce of suspected cocaine, while in the rental car he had been using were a pistol and unspecified amounts of suspected cocaine and fentanyl with $3,200 in cash. A brief tornado touched down in Beekmantown Tuesday afternoon Acting U.S. Attorney thanked police for their effort in detaining Woods, while warning that 'individuals who possess distribution quantities of deadly controlled substances, thousands of dollars in cash, and firearms pose a danger to the communities where they sell drugs, to lawenforcement officers, and to themselves.'
