Chandan Mishra murder case: Two accused injured in police encounter, one held
The injured, identified as Balwant Kumar Singh, a native of Buxar, and Ravi Ranjan Singh, a native of Bhojpur, have been admitted to a hospital at Ara for treatment.
Meanwhile, another suspect, Buxar-native Abhishek Kumar Singh, has been arrested.
Two pistols, one desi kutta (country-made pistol), two magazines and four live cartridges have been recovered from the site of encounter, which falls under Bihia police station limits in Bhojpur district.
The joint STF-district police team, led by station house officer (SHO) of Bihia, cordoned off the area where the accused were hiding based on a tip. The team asked the accused to surrender. However, the accused opened fire at the police team. The police also opened fire in self-defence, injuring the two suspects.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhojpur, Raj said that raids were underway to arrest others involved in the murder of Chandan Mishra. A posse of armed police force has been deployed in the Bihia police station area after the early morning encounter, he added.
On July 17, Balwant had brought all the shooters to Paras HMRI hospital where Chandan Mishra, a murder convict on parole, was undergoing treatment. A group of five shooters, led by Tausif Raja alias Badshad, fired at Mishra in the Hospital's ICU.
Balwant has been named as an accused in an FIR lodged by Mishra's father at the Shastrinagar police station in Patna.
Tausif and his three associates were earlier arrested from Kolkata, and brought to Patna on transit remand. Tausif, a resident of Phulwarisharif in Patna, has been taken under police remand for further interrogation.

UP STF seeks global inputs on fake diplomat
LUCKNOW The UP Special Task Force (STF) has sought global inputs on activities of Harsha Vardhan Jain, who operated the fake embassy of the unrecognised micronation Westarctica in Ghaziabad, senior STF officials confirmed here on Sunday. The STF is seeking information about Harsha Vardhan Jain's activities from over 20 countries. (For Representation) They said a Blue Corner Notice has been issued against Jain, marking the first time such a notice has been used in any case of Uttar Pradesh. Issued by Interpol, the Blue Corner Notice is a tool used to gather additional information about a person of interest in a criminal investigation, the STF officials said. It's not a request for arrest, but rather an alert to member countries to collect details about a person's identity, location or activities abroad related to a crime. The STF is seeking information about Jain's activities from over 20 countries, focusing on his international travel history, business ventures abroad and financial transactions from his foreign bank accounts, an STF official said. He said the STF has applied for Jain's five-day police custody remand (PCR) in a Ghaziabad court to further interrogate him about his activities and connections. He said the local court will decide on his PCR on Monday. Interrogation during Jain's police custody remand is expected to shed more light on the extent of his operations and potential accomplices, he added. He said the travel history could include details of his international travels and stays, business ventures, information about companies registered or operated by him abroad and insights into his bank accounts, transactions, and potential money laundering activities. The STF has already uncovered substantial evidence, including 11 bank accounts linked to Jain in Dubai, Mauritius, UK, and India with suspected hawala transactions, the official said. He said it included six bank accounts in Dubai, three in the UK and one bank account each in Mauritius and India. 'Besides, over a dozen shell companies registered by Jain (were) potentially used for illicit activities. The investigations so far revealed that Jain, along with arms dealer friend Adnan Khwaja and Ahsan Ali Sayed, a UK-based businessman, allegedly registered multiple companies in different countries, including UK-based companies–State Trading Corporation Ltd and East India Company UK Ltd, UAE-based company- Island General Trading Co LLC, Mauritius-based company- Indira Overseas Ltd and Cameroon-based company-Cameron Ispat Sarl,' he said. The STF official said 12 high-end watches, including Rolex and Omega, as well as forged documents, diplomatic passports, and counterfeit stamps bearing the seals of various countries and companies were also recovered during his arrest. The STF's Noida unit arrested Jain who was operating a fake embassy of the unrecognised micronation Westarctica from a rented house in Ghaziabad's Kavinagar on Tuesday (July 22). He was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The STF is working with local police to obtain his remand for further investigation. The accused allegedly posed as the consul/ambassador of unrecognised and fictitious countries like Westarctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia. The accused used diplomatic number plates on his vehicles and morphed photos with prominent figures like the Prime Minister and President to impress people. His main activities included brokering deals for companies and individuals to work abroad and running a hawala racket through shell companies.

RO/ARO exam held peacefully, 60% skip test
1 2 Lucknow: The examination for the posts of review officer/assistant review officer (RO/ARO) was conducted smoothly and peacefully at 2,382 centres across the state on Sunday. According to officials, nearly 60% candidates skipped the examination as around 4.5 lakh students took the test out of total 10.7 lakh who had registered for the examination. UPPSC secretary Ashok Kumar said that Ayodhya recorded highest attendance with 52.8% candidates appearing for the examination, while Rampur registered the lowest at 25.8%. Participation in other major cities included 47.6% in Prayagraj, 48.9% in Lucknow, 44.4% in Kanpur, and 49.2% in Varanasi. "The highest number of 139 examination centres were set up in Kanpur, followed by Lucknow (129) and Prayagraj (106)," he said. "Cutting-edge security measures — including AI-based alert system, biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, and monitoring by the STF— ensured zero irregularities across the state. Dedicated teams monitored coaching centres and flagged suspicious behaviour to the authorities," an official said. UP STF busts gang behind digital arrest ofacademic who lost Rs95L; 2 held from Thane
Lucknow: The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday dismantled a cybercrime racket operating from Mira Road, Thane, Maharashtra. Two miscreants, Mohammad Iqbal Balasaheb (47) and Shine Iqbal Balasaheb (42), were arrested for their involvement in orchestrating a complex scam involving fake "digital arrests" and forged documents. The gang posed as officers from various law enforcement agencies, including police, narcotics, and crime branches, and defrauded victims of large sums of money using fake investigations. The accused were arrested following a detailed investigation, which revealed a widespread operation involving the use of deepfake techniques, manipulated documents, and fake video calls to extort money from their victims. The STF recovered several items, including three mobile phones, two laptops, seven pen drives, three hard disks, six ATM cards, and two Aadhaar cards. ASP, STF, Vishal Singh said that the investigation began when Dr BN Singh, a senior academic, filed a complaint on April 6, after receiving a WhatsApp call from a person identifying himself as Deepak Kumar Srivastava from a fictitious logistics company. ASP Vishal Vikram Singh, who led the investigation, said that using cyber forensic tools and human intelligence, STF traced the suspects to their Mira Road address.
