It was a good workout for those players who needed minutes on the park but now boss Russell Martin, still trying to grasp the high demands of being the Rangers boss since arriving in the summer, will have noted the poor goals conceded as he starts preparing to host Belgian side Club Brugge in the first leg of the Champions League play-off on Tuesday.
Despite reaching the play-off with a 4-2 aggregate win over Viktoria Plzen, the 2-1 defeat in the second leg in the Czech Republic during the week brought another fresh wave of criticism for the former Southampton boss.
As expected, he rang the changes with only defender Nasser Djiga retained from the trip to the Czech Republic.
There was a debut for Mikey Moore, the 18-year-old attacker who received his international clearance on his loan move from Tottenham, and Fernandez, signed from Peterborough this summer.
The home side, captained by Liam Kelly, took instant control.
Moore had a couple of efforts beaten away by Alloa goalkeeper Liam McFarlane before he laid the ball off to Bajrami, who took a touch and curled the ball in off the crossbar from the edge of the box.
The home side's lead was cancelled out in bizarre circumstances, which began when Djiga lost possession.
Steven Buchanan skipped by left-back Bailey Rice, his angled-drive was blocked by Kelly straight to Luke Rankin whose shot was stopped by Rothwell – perhaps by his arm.
However, when the ball got through to Kelly again, he thrashed it off the head of the prostrate Rothwell and the ball landed in the net, irking the home fans.
Rothwell's next contribution was more positive, however, slinging in a free-kick from the right for Fernandez to head in from eight yards.
McFarlane made good saves from Gers attacker Danilo, Djiga and Bajrami before club captain Tavernier came on to replace the injured Rice.
The second half continued along the same lines with Rangers attacking and Alloa defending and McFarlane made further saves from Danilo and Tavernier.
There was a VAR check when Alloa substitute Cameron O'Donnell stopped Oscar Cortes getting on to the loose ball when McFarlane parried another Bajrami drive.
Referee Daniel McFarlane checked his pitchside monitor and pointed to the spot, with Tavernier driving in off a post.
Thelo Aasgaard, the 23-year-old Norway midfielder signed from Luton, replaced Moore to make his Rangers debut, with Hamza Igamane and Connor also coming on for Rothwell and Danilo.
Alloa injected some tension into the game when Taggart tapped in from a yard after David Devine headed an O'Donnell free-kick off the crossbar.
But Findlay, on for Cortes, fired a low shot in off the far post to seal the win, but the Light Blues will be stress-tested to a greater degree by Club Brugge on Tuesday.

'Things can only get better I hope' or 'this season will be an uphill struggle'
We asked for your views on Rangers 4-2 win against Alloa in the Scottish League what some of you said: Martin: We got the win which is the first thing you have to do, well done on that. Some good stuff played and good to see the new players getting a run out but again the defence is shambolic. We can't defend like this on Tuesday, come clear your lines, back to basics and stop making school boy errors. Onwards and upwards. Things can only get better l If Rangers are struggling to break the low block of Alloa Athletic it doesn't augur well for the far superior teams they are about to play. The tactics being employed are just not cutting Once again, poor. The defence is a nightmare and I dread the first Old Firm match, Reo Hatate is going to love these guys! Too much tiki-taka football and we are not good enough. We need to be faster going forward and more Another poor performance. A shambles at the back, moving the ball too slow, no idea what to Very worrying signs at the back and up front, the season will be an uphill struggle unless we get proven talent that can steady the ship and offer leadership. At the moment there are glaring deficiencies and you just have to look at the squad to know what needs strengthened. The season could be over in a matter of weeks, the board and recruitment staff are letting the manager Yet another largely ineffective performance. It would be very unfair on Alloa to claim they were routinely dispatched. I worry our glaring defensive weaknesses and impotent attack are going to be exposed in some, if not all, of our next four games. Fallout could be brutal.

Mikey Moore plots meteoric Rangers rise as Tottenham prodigy vows 'I want to be one of the best in the world'
The 18-year-old finally made his debut against Alloa in the Premier Sports Cup win at Ibrox on Saturday Mikey Moore says he's setting out to become one of the world's best players - and reckons Rangers is the perfect place to start. The highly-rated Tottenham kid last week signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League giants. But the 18-year-old will spend the next 12 months in Scotland after joining Gers on loan. And the exciting wingman believes his time in Glasgow will be vital as he looks to take his game to the top level. The England youth international enjoyed a breakout year in North London last term, registering 19 appearances for the Europa League winners. And he's now hoping the chance to sample Champions League action at Ibrox can help him realise his lofty ambitions. He said: 'I want to go and play in the biggest competitions and I want to be one of the best players in the world, hopefully. "So, yes, this move is massive for me. "I've signed a new contract at Spurs but at the minute. I'm focussed on playing here. "I'm just buzzing to go and play some massive games at this football club.' Moore agreed his move to Ibrox at the start of the month but didn't get his international clearance from UEFA to play until last Monday when he turned 18. The hold up frustrated supporters but they finally got a glimpse of the Spurs youngster in action during Saturday's Premier Sports Cup win over Alloa and were treated to some flashes of talent. Now Moore hopes to provide the fans with something more substantial when Russell Martin's team square off against Club Brugge in Tuesday's £40million Champions League play-off clash. He said: 'I just want to play for this club and I want to become a better player really, so I think there's a massive opportunity at this club and there's massive games. It's a great club. "So I just want to play as many games as possible, score as many goals and excite as many people as I can. "I've had a chance to settle in and kind of get to know everyone, so it's been a good few weeks, kind of just settling into a new place, moving away from home, so yeah, I've been ready to go. "So I was looking forward to Saturday and I was buzzing when I was out there. "I think the hold up was just to do it at my age. I had to wait until my birthday. It is what it is. "I couldn't change it, but it kind of helped me, so I could adapt to living here and moving here. But I was ready to go and play when I had the chance.'
