Nedim Bajrami's Rangers exit 'likely' as two offers on table

Signed last summer for £3.5million from relegated Serie A side Sassuolo, the attacking midfielder was seen as a smart pickup as a technically efficient player, especially after his wondergoal for Albania at Euro 2024. But it has been an underwhelming season for the 26-year-old who has flattered to deceive, flitting in and out of games as well as the Gers starting XI. That has led to some criticism from supporters and it looks to be a signing which hasn't worked out. And it looks like there could be an opportunity for the Ibrox club to cut their losses and for the player to secure a fresh start, according to reports in Albania. The report claims his departure from Rangers is "likely" although that would depend on a suitable offer being submitted. Bajrami made 45 appearances last season, finding the net five times and providing four assists. He signed a four year deal last summer meaning he is under contract until 2028.

6 big Nedim Bajrami at Rangers questions answered as riddle foxes Ferguson and expert reveals all on toiling star

The 26-year-old has struggled to make any real impact in his first season in Scotland and was subbed at half-time on Sunday When Rangers snared him for £3.4million he was supposed to be a game-changing signing for the club. The creative, imaginative number 10 they were crying out for. An Albanian international arriving from Serie A - having just stunned Italy at the Euro 2024 Finals with one of the goals of the tournament. ‌ Nedim Bajrami was brought to Ibrox to help them win titles. But instead, just a year into his Rangers career there are question marks on whether he's got a future in Glasgow. ‌ The manager who signed him, Philippe Clement, is already gone. And with a US takeover set to transform the club this summer, every player is fighting to stay at Gers. When Bajrami was snapped up from Sassuolo, fans expected him to light up Scottish football. But it hasn't quite happened for the 26-year-old playmaker. He's been used in various different positions but failed to nail down a regular starting slot under Clement or interim boss Barry Ferguson, who hooked him at half-time during Sunday's 4-0 Scottish Premiership win over Aberdeen with the Ibrox boss later explaining his decision. Bajrami has made 43 appearances this term, scoring six goals - including a League Cup semi winner against Motherwell at Hampden then another in a thrilling final with Celtic which ended 3-3. Ferguson clearly sees something in the Albanian considering he started him in last Sunday's Old Firm derby and stuck with him in his XI against the Dons before subbing him after a lacklustre opening 45 minutes. ‌ But with a new gaffer set to be unveiled at Ibrox, will Bajrami be part of the club moving forward - or will he be sold to help fund a squad rebuild? Record Sport sat down to discuss it with Albanian football writer Ermal Kuka from the country's respected Panorama Sport media outlet and asked him some key questions. What have you made of Bajrami's first season at Rangers? We know the expectations are really high at Rangers and it's clear, he's had an up and down season there. He made a positive impact at the start but then had some problems. But I believe it's to do with adapting to a new league. He has arrived in Scotland from a different style of football in Italy, where it was all about tactics. Sometimes it takes time to click in a new country. That can happen, even to some of the top players in the world. ‌ What's his best position on the pitch because he has been played as a winger and as a No. 10 at Rangers? Bajrami is a number 10, that's where he likes to play. That's where he has more space, more contact with the ball. He's a player who likes to be involved. And he's more effective when he's deeply involved in the game. He wants to be passing and shooting, opening space for other players. He's more of a creative midfielder or forward, rather than a winger. Obviously, he can adapt because he's played on the wing for the national team and in Serie A. But he's more at ease when he's playing as a number 10. He's more productive there. The more Bajrami is in contact with the ball the better he is. He's one of these players who has an urge to be in the flow of the game. ‌ Has he struggled with the physical demands of Scottish football? He has struggled a bit to adapt to the Scottish game. And I think he's starting to feel the physical demands of football there. I'm not saying he's not physical because remember, he's played in a big league in Italy. But Scotland is different. There are more body checks and I think after a positive start, you could see him wane a little bit physically. He has to adapt but Bajrami is still learning about Scottish football. This first year is a learning curve for him. He's a big star in Albania - do they expect more from him and do they watch the Rangers games to see him? Bajrami is a regular with the national team, he starts 99 percent of the games for Albania. He's a central player for his country. Basically, he just plays. We have a lot of good players in this generation so it's not easy to get a slot in the starting 11. But Bajrami is always there so that shows his quality. Of course, people here like to watch him and see how he's doing at Rangers. I do a lot of work for our online newspaper, the biggest sports web page in Albania - so I know there is a LOT of interest in Bajrami. Everyone hopes he can become a regular starter for Rangers and perform at his top level. But he's still adapting to the league and if I'm honest, we expected this type of start. Going from a tactical game in Italy to a more physical British style is not easy. Will we see a much better version of Bajrami at Rangers next season after a full summer of training? I definitely think he will be better for Rangers next season with a full pre-season. That's obvious because he'll have a summer of preparation. And crucially, he'll now know what he's preparing for in the Scottish league. He'll know what he needs to do to be at the top, physically and football-wise. He'll know who's who and what to do against each team. Bajrami knows he can do a lot of things with the Rangers shirt on and people will see that. He'll be so focused on what he has to do at the start of the next season. This season will bother him because he knows there are expectations on him and he's had this period where it hasn't really clicked. But that can change quickly. Do you expect Bajrami to be kept on at Rangers for next season under a new manager and can he be a success here? We all hope Bajrami stays at Rangers next season and is a big success. It's a really big club, a big name in Europe. We all want him to prevail in Glasgow. We want him to be at the top of his game and at his best. He will feel that too, that's why he went there. I know he had different options when he chose Rangers. He could have gone to clubs in Switzerland, Germany or Italy. But he picked Rangers because they're such a huge name. He had interesting clubs after him in the top five leagues of Europe. But he wanted to play for a big club. And after this period of adaptation, I'm sure that he'll show he can be a regular part of it.
