Cardigan residents should back today's carnival return
The parade will mark the culmination of a week-long series of events as organisers seek to re-establish Cardigan Carnival as a major fixture on the town calendar – as it was in days gone by. 'If the community can get involved it makes such a difference to all having a great day out,' county councillor Sian Maehrlein told the Tivyside. 'Our team will start final organising at 8am and we have Bluey and Bingo as our special judges. 'We will have fun events on the field as well including Last Man Standing, Samba Doc and the Panache Dancing team. 'I believe we have four carnival floats registered, but floats can also be registered on the day.' Floats will be meeting at Station Road at 12 noon. Walkers assemble at the Grosvenor at 12.15pm. Organisers are heartened by the fact that Sunday afternoon's Family Treasure Hunt produced a great turnout, while the Carnival Bingo session was also well-attended. 'The 'Spot the Mistake in the Window' competition – free to enter, but closing on Thursday – is another winner,' said Cllr Maehrlein. 'Our small voluntary team are working well together and it's lovely to see town shops taking part.' Other attractions include a Thursday quiz at the Angel and Car Treasure Hunt on Friday, all prizes for the latter having been donated by Wyn Rees, of Abbey Garage, St Dogmaels. Councillor Maehrlein added that all funds generated would go to local charities – Cardigan Cancer Care having received a £500 donation recently.

Reborn as CardiGras in 2017, the carnival featured a float and walking parade that set off through the town's High Street just after midday. Wet and wild water fun at Tenby Firefighters' Carnival
The town's firefighters, who organise the fundraising event, were met with huge cheers in the town's packed Tudor Square as they unleashed the power of their hose reel jets on the crowds. Spectators came prepared with giant water-pistols, water balloons and even buckets of the stuff in their attempts to retaliate. A junior firefighter gets his revenge! (Image: Gareth Davies Photography) Earlier, South Parade was lined with spectators as the carnival set off from the station yard at 5.15pm, with an HM Coastguard vehicle and a fire engine leading the way. The Carnival Queen and her attendants were sitting pretty. These Tenby Superheroes were ready to soak spectators. Firefighters were given a helping hand with their fundraising by the town's lifeboat crews and coastguard team - plus little helpers.
