Apple may be trying to pick up Formula 1's US broadcast rights
F1 is said to make about $85 million per year from its deal with ESPN. Interest in the sport has soared in the US over the last few years, in part due to the popularity of Netflix's Drive to Survive docuseries as well as Apple's movie and the introduction of two more grand prix in the country. As such, analysts estimate that F1's next US broadcast agreement could be worth around $121 million annually — chump change for Apple, which posted net income of $28.8 billion in the first three months of this year.
ESPN failed to strike a new deal with F1 during an exclusive negotiating window, which closed last year. Other bidders are expected to be interested in the US broadcast rights.
Securing the F1 broadcast rights seems like a natural next step for Apple in the world of sports. Along with its expansive Major League Soccer agreement, the company streams MLB games on Friday nights . It's unclear whether F1 races would require a separate subscription via Apple, like the MLS Season Pass , or if the company would want Formula 1 to ditch its own streaming service in the US as part of any deal.

Utah Jazz reportedly not looking to trade Lauri Markkanen
John Collins? Traded. Collin Sexton? Traded. Jordan Clarkson? Bought out. Lauri Markkanen? It looks like the veteran forward is staying in Utah and will not be traded, Tim MacMahon reports at ESPN. [Trading Markkanen] is not Utah's intention, sources told ESPN. It would be too much to describe Markkanen as untouchable, but the Jazz still project the All-Star forward as a key player in their future core. While this is what a front office says when trying to gain leverage and drive up the price tag on a potential trade, in this case, there are reasons to believe Utah means it. For one thing, even if Markkanen bounces back to the form of his first season in Utah — when he was an All-Star and won the Most Improved Player award — it's not going to disrupt the clear plan for next season, which is to, how should we put this, end up with excellent lottery odds. Secondly, his massive salary — his four-year, $195.9 million contract extension kicks in this season, starting at $46.4 million — makes finding a workable trade difficult. Finally, and tied to that contract, Markkanen struggled through an injury-plagued last season, averaging 19 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, but his shooting efficiency was down across the board, including 34.6% from 3-point range. Teams are going to want to see the 28-year-old regain his form. Which is to say, the Jazz are going to wait, play Markannen with their young stars like the just-drafted Ace Bailey, Kyle Filipowski (who has looked fantastic at Summer League) and Walker Kessler, and see how things shake out. At the deadline, maybe the Jazz and another team out there will feel differently, maybe not, but for now expect Markkanen to stay in Utah. Where he has wanted to be.

ESPN's Seth Walder posted his offseason grades for all 32 NFL teams. Walder graded the Saints' offseason a D, ranking them with the worst in the league. The ESPN insider admits most of his criticism of the team comes from how they handled the Derek Carr situation. New Orleans had the opportunity to cut Carr early in the offseason and save $30 million, but the Saints opted to restructure the veteran quarterback's contract, making it fully guaranteed. New Orleans has been manipulating the cap for years, but guaranteeing Carr's deal was questioned by all fans when it happened. Despite announcing their intentions to compete in the NFC South in 2025, the Saints are going through a rebuild. Walder buffs this by saying, "Even if the $10 million was a sunk cost (it wasn't quite), was Carr worth $30 million to the Saints in 2025? He shouldn't have been." Resigning their veteran quarterback was counterproductive and would have cost the team more money in the future. Luckily for the Saints, Carr announced his retirement a month before the draft and gracefully declined to take the guaranteed money from New Orleans. Walder mentions himself as a fan of Young, but feels New Orleans only made the move to avoid dead cap hits if the former first overall pick were to leave. Walder's criticism of the Young signing feels contradictory, however. The young pass rusher is only 26 years old, and despite the lack of sacks in 2024, was top-10 in quarterback hurries. The Saints believe the former Washington Commander and San Francisco 49ers pass rusher can be a meaningful piece of their young core going forward and secured him on a deal. The consensus is that the team overpaid for Young, but the 26-year-old edge rusher's contract barely ranks in the top 20 per year, ranking 18th among all pass rushers. Among other offseason moves mentioned by ESPN were Juwan Johnson's three-year $30 million extension and the signing of Justin Reid. Similarly to the Young signing, Walder likes the moves, just not the fact that the Saints made them. Advertisement New Orleans is going through a rebuild. With a first-year head coach and the realistic expectation that the team would be starting a rookie quarterback, it was always going to be hard for the team to put out an impressive offseason with the limited resources they had. Despite the limits, the Saints have added plenty of promising and proven coaches to their staff and went out to get players that will make life easier for their young signal caller. Cramer praises Nvidia CEO's win with Trump, says Apple deal a great first step
Every weekday the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a "Morning Meeting" livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here's a recap of Tuesday's key moments. 1. U.S. stocks are mixed Tuesday. Nvidia helped lift the tech-heavy Nasdaq into positive territory, while the Dow and S & P 500 fell slightly. The consumer price index , released before the opening bell, rose 0.3%, which put the 12-month inflation rate at 2.7% — in line with analyst expectations. The data was "benign," said Jim Cramer, who warned investors to be careful. "There's deflation in parts of the economy and inflation in other parts of the economy, which makes the job of the Fed tougher but not impossible." Treasury yields were little changed on the report. The CME Group's FedWatch tool shows only a 2.6% probability of a rate cut at the Federal Reserve's meeting in late July. That likelihood jumps to 60% for the central bank's September meeting. 2. Nvidia shares are up roughly 4.5% after the chipmaker said it hopes to soon resume exports of its H20 GPUs to China. "The U.S. government has assured Nvidia that licenses will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon," Nvidia said in a statement late Monday. The chipmaker also announced a new fully compliant RTX PRO GPU. Nvidia previously said limited exports to China could cost it about $8 billion for the quarter, which Melius analysts project could be recovered as soon as the company's fourth quarter. Jim praised CEO Jensen Huang's strategic appeal to President Trump. "The president was not predisposed to do what Jensen wanted to do," Jim said. But, Jim added, Jensen convinced Trump that the U.S. has "been hooked on everything Chinese, let them be hooked on something of ours. And, let's make this the reserve currency of tech." The reference to "reserve currency of tech" likens American AI to the dollar being a "reserve currency," around the world. 3. Apple announced a $500 million dollar deal with MP Materials Tuesday for rare earth magnets and a new recycling facility designed specifically for Apple products. Shares of Apple rose a little more than 1% while MP Materials rocketed nearly 25% on the news. The update is part of Apple's commitment to spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. "I made the point [to Apple] that if you spend $100 billion, you'll get in the good graces of the government," Jim said, adding that taking action is important. "They need to see shovels, shovels to the ground." 4.
