Bessent Plays It Cool on Tariffs Even as US-China Friction Persists
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the US is ' very happy ' with the current tariff setup, calling it a system that's working well and noting that China as the biggest source of tariff revenue. It's a sign the Trump administration doesn't want to rock the boat before the trade truce expires in November — and could be paving the way for a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in the meantime.

Solid Earnings Reflect TeleChoice International's (SGX:T41) Strength As A Business
Explore TeleChoice International's Fair Values from the Community and select yours TeleChoice International Limited (SGX:T41) just reported healthy earnings but the stock price didn't move much. We think that investors have missed some encouraging factors underlying the profit figures. Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit. Zooming In On TeleChoice International's Earnings Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow. Therefore, it's actually considered a good thing when a company has a negative accrual ratio, but a bad thing if its accrual ratio is positive. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it's worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future". For the year to June 2025, TeleChoice International had an accrual ratio of -0.17. Therefore, its statutory earnings were very significantly less than its free cashflow. Indeed, in the last twelve months it reported free cash flow of S$14m, well over the S$7.43m it reported in profit. Notably, TeleChoice International had negative free cash flow last year, so the S$14m it produced this year was a welcome improvement. Note: we always recommend investors check balance sheet strength. Click here to be taken to our balance sheet analysis of TeleChoice International. Our Take On TeleChoice International's Profit Performance As we discussed above, TeleChoice International's accrual ratio indicates strong conversion of profit to free cash flow, which is a positive for the company. Based on this observation, we consider it possible that TeleChoice International's statutory profit actually understates its earnings potential! And one can definitely find a positive in the fact that it made a profit this year, despite losing money last year. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider. With this in mind, we wouldn't consider investing in a stock unless we had a thorough understanding of the risks. While conducting our analysis, we found that TeleChoice International has 2 warning signs and it would be unwise to ignore these bad boys.
