The Fortune Hotel's Fred and Min blindsided cast over £250k prize money
The Fortune Hotel's John and Atholl say fellow contestants Fred and Min surprised the other players when it turned out they secretly had the £250,000 after appearing to struggle with the game.
The retired couple, 60 and 59, from Blackpool, were the last in the race to The Fortune Hotel after they were stumped by the easy "reception desk" crossword. Naturally, they couldn't believe their luck when Jake and Mike handed them the £250,000 briefcase.
Asked directly who they thought had the money, Fred and Min didn't try to throw suspicion off themselves. Instead, they said they hadn't a clue who had the money and were just grateful to be filming in the Caribbean.
Retired police officer John, 58 – who starred on The Fortune Hotel alongside his waiter son Atholl, 30 – said Fred and Min's clueless appearance meant they went undetected by the other members of the cast.
The father and son were the first pair to receive the early checkout card in the Lady Luck bar (but the second pair to leave the show). Initially, they felt it was Fred and Min's time to go, but admitted the couple had played a "blinder", surprising them after they had been playing the game so badly.
Retired police officer John told Yahoo: "[I would be] gutted for anyone going out, but ultimately I thought Fred and Min [had] done so bad. They were terrible. If anyone deserves to go, it was Fred and Min, but they played a blinder. They played a blinder, not through anything skill-wise."
The retired police officer said he was "surprised" they got away with it. "How did they play so bad and get the money?" He said. "I hope they win it, actually, they're quite funny."
He went on: "We were trying to tell Nella and Tope if you pick us, we're going home. You've got the checkout card because Fred and Min gave it to you, swap it with Fred and Min and if they'd swapped it with Fred and Min, they would have had the money!"
The Fortune Hotel filming in chaos
Behind the scenes, the filming in the Lady Luck bar — where the case swaps happen — had to be stopped because of the weather in the Caribbean. When the cameras stopped rolling, Atholl confessed the nerves were getting to him.
"The funny thing was that we literally went up to pick our case and a thunderstorm happened," Atholl said. "Filming was stopped for 15 minutes, and we had to wait to see whether we were going to get put out or not. I'm sat there going, I can't do this."
His dad, John, added, "I mean, the rain didn't last long."
However, Atholl confessed it impacted his nerves. "Long enough for me!"
Overnight fame on The Fortune Hotel
Before The Fortune Hotel had a chance to air on ITV, Atholl admitted he was being recognised already and people can't resist asking did they won the £250,000 fortune.
"I already have been [stopped]," he said. "I've been stopped a couple of times, like in Asda or the chippy."
"We went for a chippy fish and chips last night [Sunday], and the woman was like, 'Did you win the money?'
"You see it in two ways... It's really exciting that people are excited to see it. My mantra is just I can't say anything."
John said: "You've got to watch the show to find out."
Atholl added: "Because they're even saying like, 'Well, how long were you out there?' And I say, 'I can't tell because I'll give away how long we last' and they're like, 'Ooooh', and then they go away. And then the flip side of it is, for instance, some of my friends didn't even realise that I had even left the country. So when this all came out, they were like, 'When on earth did you leave the UK?'"
John said: "And the woman in the fish and chip shop said, 'Oh, I've got a friend that stays near you, and I asked him to go around and see if you got any upgrades done in your house, and then we would know you won it.' I was like, really?"
Atholl said: "And then you kind of see it from the flip side that [John has] got a lot of friends, I've got a lot of friends that are like excited for it and they're really excited to see it and you just in the back of your head saying, 'Oooh, how disappointing that we got put out second.'"
The Fortune Hotel airs on ITV1 at 9pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

John Lennon's Political Anthem Returns To The Charts Decades After Is Release
The Beatles have never completely vacated the charts in the United Kingdom — at least not for long. Whether as a band or via the solo work of its members, the impact of the biggest band of all time can always be felt. Reissues, vinyl exclusives, and one-off special surges in popularity keep the music of all four artists coming back. This frame, it's John Lennon who returns to a pair of tallies with one of his most direct and politically-charged solo statements. 'Power to the People' Is Back 'Power to the People,' credited to John Lennon, Yoko Ono – as simply John & Yoko – and the Plastic Ono Band, is back on two U.K. singles rankings. The track returns at No. 29 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart and at No. 36 on the Official Physical Singles list. A top 40 comeback more than half a century after the tune's drop is the kind of surge any artist hopes for. A Late Arrival to the Charts Though 'Power to the People' was first issued in 1971, it didn't become a charting hit in the U.K. until April 2025. It debuted that month on both the Official Vinyl Singles and Official Physical Singles charts, and even found room on the Official Singles Sales ranking as well, for two weeks. John & Yoko's Reappearances in 2025 This isn't the cut's first reentry since its April debut. In June, 'Power to the People' climbed to No. 24 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart and No. 27 on the Official Physical Singles ranking, and then disappeared. A No. 5 Peak for 'Power to the People' To date, 'Power to the People' has spent seven weeks on the vinyl tally and eight on the physical singles list. Its best showing was in the cut's first week on the rosters, when it opened at No. 5 on both charts — a peak it hasn't matched since. From Standalone Single to Catalog Staple Released outside of a studio album in 1971, 'Power to the People' arrived during one of Lennon's most politically vocal periods after the dissolution of The Beatles. Lennon and Ono recorded the track with the Plastic Ono Band, whose rotating lineup helped shape a raw, experimental sound. Over the years, 'Power to the People' has been featured on compilations like Shaved Fish.

Black Sabbath Sends Several Career-Making Hits To Important New Peaks
In the United Kingdom, the Official Charts Company caps every musical act at three spots on the Official Singles chart — the all-consumption ranking of the most popular songs in the country — at one time. Following the death of Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath easily hits that limit with three of its most recognizable cuts. All of them climb this frame, and two earn new personal bests as millions mourn his passing. 'War Pigs' and 'Iron Man' Reach New Peaks Both 'War Pigs' and 'Iron Man' debuted on the Official Singles chart last week, and now they're moving north. 'War Pigs' rises from No. 79 to No. 47, while 'Iron Man' pushes from No. 93 to No. 48. Those positions now stand as the highest either track has reached on the main songs tally. Black Sabbath's Bestsellers Pure purchases are largely fueling the ascent of both 'War Pigs' and 'Iron Man,' as the pair also finds room on the Official Single Sales chart and Official Singles Downloads rosters across the pond. On those sales-focused lists, 'War Pigs' lives inside the top 40, dipping only a few spaces from where it started last frame, while 'Iron Man' sits around the middle of the 100-spot rosters. 'Paranoid' Is Black Sabbath's Top Performer Black Sabbath's top performer on the Official Singles chart at the moment is 'Paranoid,' which jumps 12 spaces to No. 22. Several versions of the cut have appeared on the list throughout the decades, according to the Official Charts Company. The one on the tally now can't match the original's success, as in the summer of 1970, 'Paranoid' debuted and climbed to No. 4. It remains the band's only top 10 and its longest-charting single, with 18 weeks spent on the tally. The updated 'Paranoid' is also gaining on streaming platforms. On the Official Streaming chart, the cut leaps from No. 67 — where it launched last frame — to No. 26. It also lives on the Official Single Sales and Official Singles Downloads rankings at the same time, as it's the group's biggest win right now. Fans Revisit Catalog After Osbourne's Death Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, just weeks after Black Sabbath's farewell concert in Birmingham, England. The band's updated presence on the charts in the U.K. reflect an outpouring of support from fans revisiting the catalog. Impressively, the group's fates on the weekly lists have continued to improve, instead of peaking the frame following the singer's passing.
