Read more: Another Atholl parkrun for the books CEO of Discovery Vitality Dinesh Govender said the entry numbers were inspiring. 'The race entry numbers are incredibly inspiring because they have grown over the last few years. We partner with a lot of local running clubs: Gerald Memorial Fox, Orlando Athletics Club, and Old Eds, and soon we have the Wanderers race coming up, which will be the last one in the Johannesburg series.' Govender added that through the expansion of the road races throughout the country, Discovery Vitality aimed to get more people running. The CEO added that all the entry numbers they've had thus far now exceed the pre-Covid race entries, which was inspiring. 'Today was special for me because my daughter ran a 10km race with me. Fortune Hotel star reveals shocking exit truth after fans say they're ‘hooked'

Fans of the ITV show are 'obsessed' (Picture: ITV/Tuesday's Child/Si Johns/Rex Features/Shutterstock) Warning: spoilers ahead for the latest episode of The Fortune Hotel. The Fortune Hotel kicked off this week with series 2 on ITV – and it's safe to say that viewers are well and truly hooked. In last night's second episode, there were two shocking eliminations. First, father and son duo John and Atholl were sent home after being handed the early checkout card, and then, at the end, brothers Jake and Mike became the next casualties. Metro spoke to both of the latest eliminated pairings, and one of them dropped an unexpected bombshell about how their exit came about… a revelation that they didn't even discover until months after they'd filmed. The first episode of the new series ended in an excruciating cliffhanger, as couple Nella, 31, and Tope, 34, had the power to give another pair the early checkout card. In the end, it was handed to Atholl, 30, and dad John, 58, with the former revealing that it wasn't until months after production had ended that he learnt that fellow contestant James was the reason they'd been booted out. Atholl and John were seen as strong contenders before they were sent home (Picture: ITV/Tuesdays Child/Si Johns/Rex Features/Shutterstock) To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page 'It doesn't come across on TV, but when you're actually in The Lady Luck bar, it's so hard to hear,' he explained. 'We were on one side, I could hear what Min and Fred, Guv and Gurks, Maz and Max, and Jeremy and Sue were saying. Anyone else on the other side, I could not hear diddly squat.' Atholl outlined how, for months after their elimination, they thought that the reason they were sent home was simply because Nella and Tope just wanted to 'get rid of us'. 'It wasn't till we actually got to watch it back, and we were like, oh my god, because James said what he said!' he added. New here? Sign up for Metro's TV newsletter Hiya! At the start of the season, it appeared as though Atholl and John could be strong contenders, and the latter revealed how they would have played the game if they'd remained in the competition. 'As the game goes on, there'll be alliances coming together,' he said. 'I think if we had managed to get through that round, I would have maybe tried to get an alliance with a parent, because you're sometimes better as a double team until it gets near the end.' As for Jake, 29, and Mike, 33, they've had a fascinating journey on The Fortune Hotel, as they found themselves secretly holding the £250,000 fortune in just the first episode. However, in order to avoid any suspicion coming their way, they had to give the money away by swapping their briefcase with another pair. Jake and Mike were also sent home in episode two (Picture: ITV/Tuesdays Child/Si Johns/Rex Features/Shutterstock) Speaking to Metro, Mike admitted that in a moment that wasn't shown on TV, he actually considered sticking with their briefcase rather than swapping with anyone else. But this would have surely been a huge giveaway that they held the fortune. 'Mike was going, 'Stick, stick, stick.' And I was whacking his leg, going, 'Definitely not', because obviously the cards could have come to us,' Jake recalled, emphasising the fear they had that someone else would give them the early checkout card. 'We did the right thing,' Mike acknowledged, as Jake continued: 'In that scenario, because the card had gone in front of us, we knew if we stopped, we could have gone there and then. So we had to get rid of it.' Nonetheless, they admitted that they did go wrong elsewhere by giving the early checkout card to Fred, 60, and Min, 59, as the couple were then able to hand the card on to another pair, rather than being eliminated themselves. Who's going to end up taking home the prize money in the end? (Picture: ITV/Tuesdays Child/Si Johns/Rex Features/Shutterstock) 'We messed up giving the card to Fred and Min, because we didn't think, 'where's the card gonna go'. We just thought, we'll be fair, chuck it to the back of the line. Obviously we just didn't think,' Mike said, after Fred and Min came last in the first challenge of the series. Over the past few nights, fans of the ITV show have been singing its praises, with Mitchell tweeting on Thursday: 'Another great episode I'm completely addicted!!' 'LOVE The Fortune Hotel,' Natasha wrote, while Dylan remarked: 'I wasn't sold on #TheFortuneHotel first series but I'm enjoying this second series a lot more!!' Thomas admitted that he 'can't wait for next week' after a 'fantastic episode', while Luke hailed it as 'the best reality TV show on the tele'. The Fortune Hotel returns next Wednesday at 9pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX. Got a story? The Fortune Hotel's Fred and Min blindsided cast over £250k prize money

Father and son John and Atholl told Yahoo UK that Fred and Min surprised them as they secretly had the £250,000 prize money. The Fortune Hotel's John and Atholl say fellow contestants Fred and Min surprised the other players when it turned out they secretly had the £250,000 after appearing to struggle with the game. The retired couple, 60 and 59, from Blackpool, were the last in the race to The Fortune Hotel after they were stumped by the easy "reception desk" crossword. Naturally, they couldn't believe their luck when Jake and Mike handed them the £250,000 briefcase. Asked directly who they thought had the money, Fred and Min didn't try to throw suspicion off themselves. Instead, they said they hadn't a clue who had the money and were just grateful to be filming in the Caribbean. Retired police officer John, 58 – who starred on The Fortune Hotel alongside his waiter son Atholl, 30 – said Fred and Min's clueless appearance meant they went undetected by the other members of the cast. The father and son were the first pair to receive the early checkout card in the Lady Luck bar (but the second pair to leave the show). Initially, they felt it was Fred and Min's time to go, but admitted the couple had played a "blinder", surprising them after they had been playing the game so badly. Retired police officer John told Yahoo: "[I would be] gutted for anyone going out, but ultimately I thought Fred and Min [had] done so bad. They were terrible. If anyone deserves to go, it was Fred and Min, but they played a blinder. They played a blinder, not through anything skill-wise." The retired police officer said he was "surprised" they got away with it. "How did they play so bad and get the money?" He said. "I hope they win it, actually, they're quite funny." He went on: "We were trying to tell Nella and Tope if you pick us, we're going home. You've got the checkout card because Fred and Min gave it to you, swap it with Fred and Min and if they'd swapped it with Fred and Min, they would have had the money!" The Fortune Hotel filming in chaos Behind the scenes, the filming in the Lady Luck bar — where the case swaps happen — had to be stopped because of the weather in the Caribbean. When the cameras stopped rolling, Atholl confessed the nerves were getting to him. "The funny thing was that we literally went up to pick our case and a thunderstorm happened," Atholl said. "Filming was stopped for 15 minutes, and we had to wait to see whether we were going to get put out or not. I'm sat there going, I can't do this." His dad, John, added, "I mean, the rain didn't last long." However, Atholl confessed it impacted his nerves. "Long enough for me!" Overnight fame on The Fortune Hotel Before The Fortune Hotel had a chance to air on ITV, Atholl admitted he was being recognised already and people can't resist asking did they won the £250,000 fortune. "I already have been [stopped]," he said. "I've been stopped a couple of times, like in Asda or the chippy." "We went for a chippy fish and chips last night [Sunday], and the woman was like, 'Did you win the money?' "You see it in two ways... It's really exciting that people are excited to see it. My mantra is just I can't say anything." John said: "You've got to watch the show to find out." Atholl added: "Because they're even saying like, 'Well, how long were you out there?' And I say, 'I can't tell because I'll give away how long we last' and they're like, 'Ooooh', and then they go away. And then the flip side of it is, for instance, some of my friends didn't even realise that I had even left the country. So when this all came out, they were like, 'When on earth did you leave the UK?'" John said: "And the woman in the fish and chip shop said, 'Oh, I've got a friend that stays near you, and I asked him to go around and see if you got any upgrades done in your house, and then we would know you won it.' I was like, really?" Atholl said: "And then you kind of see it from the flip side that [John has] got a lot of friends, I've got a lot of friends that are like excited for it and they're really excited to see it and you just in the back of your head saying, 'Oooh, how disappointing that we got put out second.'" The Fortune Hotel airs on ITV1 at 9pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Viewers watched 11 pairs make their debut - but were immediately faced with a twist. Only 10 pairs would get a room in The Fortune Hotel - as one duo would be eliminated at the first hurdle. The contestants took part in a tense boat race, with the first five pairs to arrive guaranteed safety. However, the bottom six were at risk of leaving before the contest fully began. One by one, they picked a case while hoping they didn't find the dreaded early checkout card. Luck ran out for best pals Briony and Chelsey, who picked the doomed case and were booted off the show before they even stepped foot inside The Fortune Hotel. The rest of the contestants continued to their first challenge and headed to the harbour. They were tasked to find a room key and make it to the hotel - but there were only 10 rooms. The land and sea race determined who was at risk of heading home. ITV issue major update on series two of The Fortune Hotel with Stephen Mangan following 'fakery row' Stephen explained: "Your first challenge is to find a room key and make it to the hotel. But there are eleven pairs here and there only ten rooms available at The Fortune Hotel,. "Only the first five pairs to arrive at the hotel will be guaranteed a room. If you're among the bottom six pairs, then you will be in danger because one of those pairs will be heading home." It was utter chaos as the couples were stumped over the puzzle, as well as how to drive and manoeuvre the boat. Contestant Atholl spoke out about how stressful the task really was. The Fortune Hotel season 2 cast A second season of The Fortune Hotel has begun, and the stakes have been raised once again. Hosted by Stephen Mangan, the second series will see 22 new contestants check into the hotel in pairs. Across the eight episodes, the teams must use strategy, observation, and a good poker face to figure out who's holding the fortune - and try to steal it - all while dodging the early elimination card. Which pair will take home the life-changing £250,000? Below is a full cast list: Marilyn and Maxine Chelsey and Briony Atholl and John Jake and Mike Allan and Jacob Gurks and Guv James and Yasmine Nella and Tope Sue and Jeremy Fred and Min Martina and Briony Taking to X, he wrote: "You have no idea how stressful this was and or how edited down this is #TheFortuneHotel". He added: "This doesn't show the part where our driver stopped and asked us where we wanted to go next #DidntHappenToAnyoneElse #TheFortuneHotel". When they eventually arrived, five couples selected their cases. Jake and Mike claimed the £250,000 prize. The final six pairs played a high-stakes game of suitcase roulette - desperate to avoid the dreaded early departure card. But viewers have to wait till the next episode to see who's next to get the chop. The second series promises never-before-seen twists as Stephen teased: "It's brilliant getting a second series, because you can really lean into the stuff that people at home loved in the first series. "And there's more of that- more great challenges, more twists and turns, more drama. But also, a second series means that all the contestants have already seen the show. "It was a brand new show for the first series, no one had seen it, no one knew what to expect. "Now they've all come with a game plan so our job is to keep throwing them curveballs, so they can never relax and they never know what's coming." Atholl, 30, and his dad John, 58, are the current favourites to win the show. Coming all the way from Scotland, they travelled far for the show, so they didn't plan to go home empty-handed. This father and son duo is ready to get their hands on the £250,000 cash prize. Atholl said: "A lot of people are drawn to me, I'm quite a friendly person. My dad can deal with who the liars are as he's a retired police officer so has done a lot with body language. "Even when I was growing up, I could never lie! From being his son, I'm a great judge of character. If I have an inkling on something, I'm never normally wrong. I also remember details well, my memory is really good." Ex-police officer John added: "It's the ability to listen to people and gather information. Body language does tell you a lot."
