What time is Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.? Walkouts for boxing showdown

USA Today5 hours ago

All that's left for Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is the fighting. After months of trash talk, their cruiserweight boxing match scheduled for 10 rounds is taking place Saturday, June 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Paul (11-1) hasn't competed since last November when he scored a unanimous decision over Mike Tyson in a fight that turned out to be the most-streamed sporting event on Netflix, with an estimated 65 million viewers. Paul's lone defeat came in February 2023 against Tommy Fury, but since then the 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer has rattled off five wins in a row against former UFC stars and boxers in the ring – Nate Diaz (unanimous decision), Andre August (KO), Ryan Bourland (TKO), Mike Perry (TKO), and Tyson.
Chávez Jr. (54-6-1), the son of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez, will enter on a two-fight winning streak after most recently defeating former UFC fighter Uriah Hall by unanimous decision last July. Chavez, 39, hasn't been a world champion since 2012 and is looking to prove what he has left.
Paul and Chavez share a common opponent in former UFC champion Anderson Silva, with different results. In 2021, Silva shocked the boxing world when he won a split decision against Chavez Jr. after eight rounds. In 2022, Paul defeated Silva by unanimous decision in an eight-round fight.
When does the Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card start?
The Paul vs. Chavez Jr. lineup consists of seven fights, with the undercard getting underway at 8 p.m. ET.

Report: Chris Paul is 'determined to play' near Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers need more than help at the center spot this summer in order to become legitimate championship contenders next season. They need some help at the wing and guard spots and better bench depth in order to become an elite team. They recognize that they need more speed and athleticism, which is one reason why they traded for the draft rights to 6-foot-8 forward Adou Thiero on Thursday. But it is possible they end up signing a player who recently turned 40 years of age. Chris Paul, the future Hall of Fame point guard who has been named to 12 All-Star teams, reportedly wants to play close to his home in Los Angeles as his career winds down, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. 'Chris Paul would be another [Dallas] Mavericks target at $5.7 million,' Stein wrote, 'but there is a growing belief that Paul… is determined to play closer to his home base in Los Angeles if he indeed comes back for a 21st season.' Paul averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists in 28.0 minutes a game this season with the San Antonio Spurs. He certainly isn't anywhere close to the player he was as recently as four years ago, but he's still a very capable playmaker and floor general, and he remains a dependable 3-point shooter. He is one of LeBron James' closest friends, and one always has to wonder if James' influence in L.A. could result in Paul becoming a Laker. But there are certainly risks with bringing in and relying on a player who has 20 years of wear and tear. His risk of injury is a lot higher, and his production could fall off a cliff at a moment's notice. Paul, of course, was once set to play for the Lakers in December 2011 when they agreed to a blockbuster trade with the then-New Orleans Hornets. But the NBA, which had assumed ownership of the Hornets, vetoed the trade, and he made his way to the Los Angeles Clippers instead. He recently said during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he wants to be closer to his children, who live in the Southland.

‘The Waterfront' Dethroned In Netflix's Top 10 List By A New Show

The Waterfront Well, it's that time. The Waterfront had its run on top of Netflix's top 10 list, but now it's been capsized by a show that it was never going to be able to escape. That, of course, is the return of Squid Game for its third and allegedly final season. Squid Game season 1 remains the most-watched season of any show in Netflix history. Squid Game season 2 is inside the top 5. I expect season 3 will probably top 2, and now it's arrived with a six-episode finale run. There was a zero percent chance it wouldn't arrive at #1, and here we are. The Waterfront has had a solid run since its debut, starting at #1 and continuing until this dethroning that was always going to happen. If Squid Game did not show up, I imagine it would have remained in that spot for some time. It's a great start for the series that is angling for a second season, and as I've said before, I absolutely believe that will happen as Netflix looks to fill the water-based crime series hole left by Bloodline and Ozark, both of which ran for multiple seasons. It's only a matter of time until we hear the same for The Waterfront. Squid Game Squid Game? It's shown up with slightly better critic scores than season 2 but worse audience scores, dropping from a 61% to a lower 53%. I'm only halfway through, but I'm not sure why. Episode 2 was easily one of the best entries in the entire series. Again, this is the final season, but its creator has a clear idea for a spin-off that takes place between seasons 1 and 2 and has not ruled out a potential sequel either, he says. The rest of the list has Ginny and Georgia performing extremely well, given how long ago it aired. It was already renewed for a fourth season ages ago, so there is no waiting around for that news. America's Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders series seems to be one of Netflix's more popular reality series these days, and I can't imagine why. Expect it to return. Two licensed shows are doing well, Animal Kingdom and Blindspot, which arrive with six seasons and five seasons, respectively, for viewers to chew through. The question now is how long will Squid Game season 3 stay on top. If it's any less than two weeks, I'd be a bit surprised, as Netflix has cleared its release slate for a while for this reason. But this is the least amount of episodes a season has had, so that means viewers will finish more quickly. We will keep an eye on it. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Paddy Pimblett chasing Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira title winner after UFC 317

UFC star Paddy Pimblett has ambitious goals for his fighting career. Paddy Pimblett wants to be more than just a big name in MMA. He wants to make history, and become one of the few fighters to win UFC titles in two different weight classes. Pimblett's ambitious plan is one that he had long before joining the UFC. During his early days at Cage Warriors, Pimblett won and defended the Cage Warriors featherweight title, and then challenged for the promotion's lightweight belt, but unfortunately came up short. He wants to replicate the same now in the UFC, but this time with 100 percent success. "I want to eventually go for two belts, but I want to get a legacy in my own division," Pimblett told MMA Junkie. "I'd like to defend the belt two or three times and then go for the welterweight belt." Pimblett is not far from UFC gold at 155 pounds. He's currently undefeated in the UFC with seven straight wins. Pimblett's most recent triumph in the octagon came in April, when he stopped former Bellator champion Michael Chandler. Pimblett feels he's one win away from getting his opportunity at the belt, and he doesn't care who he fights between Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira, who are set to fight for the vacant lightweight title in the main event of Saturday's UFC 317. "It doesn't matter. I'm always coming after the champ, so whoever wins (Saturday) night, that's who I'm going after," Pimblett said. "That's what you have to prepare for, to fight the champ. I'm not concerned about anything. Whatever fight I get offered, I'll take that fight, and then I'll be going for the title."
