American Fisher breaks 5,000-meter indoor world record in Boston
Feb 14 (Reuters) - American Grant Fisher smashed the world indoor 5,000 meters record at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, just a week after setting the indoor 3,000 meters record.
Fisher clocked 12 minutes 44.09 seconds, lowering the 12:49.60 mark set by Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.
The 27-year-old Fisher, who won bronze in both the 5,000 and 10,000m at last year's Paris Olympics, had broke the world indoor 3,000m record at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday.
Jimmy Gressier secured second place with a time of 12:54.92, improving his previous French national record in the event.

Podcast star Alex Cooper decided to speak out about being allegedly sexually harassed by her Boston University soccer coach because "there was no accountability, no investigation and no justice," and warned, "I'm coming for all of you." In Cooper's docuseries, "Call Her Alex," which released on Hulu this week, she alleged her college soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, sexually harassed her. In a new statement on Instagram Thursday, Cooper said the harassment lasted for three years while she was a student. "Nancy Feldman was someone I trusted. Someone I believed in. Someone who was supposed to help me grow. Someone who was supposed to protect me," Cooper wrote. "But instead she made my life a living hell and abused her power over me. She stripped me of my identity and took away what I had worked my entire life for because she didn't control herself. This defined my life for a decade and impacted her life 0%," the post continued. Cooper played on the team from 2013 to 2015, according to the BU women's soccer website. Feldman retired in 2022 after 27 years at the university. In the docuseries she alleged Feldman 'fixated' on her, wanted to know who she was dating, made comments about her body, put her hand on Cooper's thigh and wanted to be alone with her. Feldman once allegedly questioned Cooper about a date and asked whether she had had sex the night before. Feldman could not be immediately reached by phone or email Friday. The media star said she had reported the abuse to the athletic director, Drew Marrochello, but to no resolve. "I was turned away and ignored," she said. Marrochello did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. Boston University on Friday told NBC News the school has a "zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment." "We have a robust system of resources, support and staff dedicated to student wellbeing and a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office. We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all," the school said, without directly addressing Cooper's claims. The straw that broke the camel's back for Cooper, she said, was when she learned harassment was still impacting her beloved soccer team. 'When I found out the harassment and abuse was STILL happening on that campus today ... I knew I needed to share my story,' Cooper wrote. 'This is no longer just about me, this is systemic.' Cooper went on to say that she's speaking out to be a voice for those who feel they've lost theirs. "When this initially happened to me I felt like I had no voice. But that is no longer the case. Now I'm coming for all of you who abused your power over innocent young individuals," Cooper continued. "Nancy Feldman, you will no longer be able to hide in the shadows and get away unscathed from the calculated pain you caused me and so many other women." "Because when I was 18 years old, dismissed and ignored by Boston University, I prayed and wished someone with a voice would have held my hand and helped me through the darkest time in my life. Daddy Gang, I got you," she said.

MIAMI, June 13 (Reuters) - Inter Miami will have to rely heavily on Lionel Messi's firepower as they prepare for Saturday's Club World Cup opener against Al-Ahly, with coach Javier Mascherano forced to re-shuffle his backline due to a string of injuries. Fullback Jordi Alba, fellow defender Gonzalo Lujan and defensive midfielder Yannick Bright have all been ruled out of the Group A clash at the Hard Rock Stadium. Taylor Knibb insists 'I'm not the one to beat' as PTO resumes
Defending champion Taylor Knibb insists she is not the one to beat ahead of the T100 Triathlon World Tour's latest stop in Vancouver. Knibb romped to the world title last year but was beaten for the first time under the T100 in San Francisco a fortnight ago when she finished second behind Julie Derron. But the American was keen to highlight the strength in depth of the women's field, and shrugged off the notion that she had a target on her back on Canada's west coast. 'Defending would imply you have something to lose, so reframing that is more appropriate in that there is a world title on the line and I would like to do everything I can to get another world title,' she said. 'No one has earned it yet and it is all for the taking. 'There are a lot of really strong women in the field and if there is anyone who thinks I am the only person to beat, I have a list that is very extensive. 'There are a lot of women who are incredibly strong and incredibly talented. There are a lot of threats.' Knibb won all of her T100 races last season, picking up victories in San Francisco, Ibiza and Las Vegas before sealing the world title with a dominant display in Dubai last November. The 27-year-old was unable to repeat the feat in San Fransico two weeks ago, but the American was positive about her season opener having missed the first leg in Singapore. 'It was a great first race of the season and I am excited to keep on improving from there,' she said. 'I have a lot of work to do. You can't do it all in two weeks, you have to recover for the next race but I am excited for the season ahead.' Knibb will race in Vancouver for the first time in her career, as the T100 Triathlon World Tour makes its maiden stop in Canada. Having raced all around the globe, including at two Olympic Games, Knibb is embracing a new environment and a new course to get her teeth into. 'It's really fun to get to go to a place I've never been to before that is really quite gorgeous,' she added. 'In this sport, there are races that are held in the same place for numerous years and that's fantastic but after the 15th time of visiting a city, it is fun to go somewhere else. 'It looks like a fantastic course. I tried the bike course yesterday. The swim for the women is apparently going to be a really long run in, so we'll see how that plays out. 'It seems like a fantastic venue and the T100 has once again delivered a fantastic race course.'
