Liam Gallagher Praises Fan Kicked Off Stage at Green Day Concert for Playing Oasis Hit

Yahoo04-07-2025
Billie Joe Armstrong may not have appreciated it when a fan invited on stage trolled him by playing Oasis' 'Wonderwall' instead of 'Good Riddance' at a recent Green Day show, but Liam Gallagher certainly did.
Shortly after a clip went viral of Armstrong looking bewildered while a fan strummed the opening chords to Oasis' signature hit — as opposed to the 1997 Nimrod cut, aka the song the prankster was supposed to play — Gallagher shared his approval on X. Replying to a video of the incident, he wrote sarcastically, 'Best song of the night.'

It's become a tradition at Green Day shows for the band to invite musicians in the crowd to join Armstrong on stage and accompany him on 'Good Riddance' on acoustic guitar. At the group's Monday (June 30) performance in Luxembourg, however, the chosen fan went off course by playing a different tune, which at first confused the California frontman.
'You told me you could play this one!' Armstrong said before realizing what was actually happening, with the culprit playing what was unmistakably the intro to Oasis' Billboard Hot 100 No. 8 track. Promptly taking back his guitar as a crew member ushered the fan off stage, Armstrong then said, 'Nice try, nice try.'
As Green Day continues its summer run of shows and festivals, Oasis is also gearing up to hit the road again for the first time in 16 years. After burying the hatchet and putting an end to a yearslong feud, Liam and brother Noel Gallagher will finally reunite on stage on Friday (July 4), kicking off a global tour with a show at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
In the lead-up to the trek, the brothers have been teasing that their band is sounding better than ever in rehearsals. 'We have LIFT OFF Rastas sounded f–king FILTHY,' Liam wrote on X in June.
Even U2's Bono is amped for the reunion. 'I love them,' he recently told Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe. 'I'm still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he's kind of shocked by how great the band is [sounding]. I think we're going to have a good summer.'

Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia has childhood street named for him in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A few hundred people gathered Friday to name a tiny San Francisco street after legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia on what would have been his 83rd birthday and as part of a citywide celebration to mark the band's 60th anniversary. Harrington Street, which is one block long, will also be called 'Jerry Garcia Street.' He died in 1995, but the band's popularity has only grown as younger generations discover the Dead's improvisational music, which blended rock, blues, folk and other styles. Garcia spent part of his childhood in a modest home in the city's diverse Excelsior neighborhood. He lived with his grandparents after the death of his father, Jose Ramon 'Joe' Garcia. 'I hope that you all get a chance to enjoy the music, dance, hug, smile,' said daughter Trixie Garcia, growing emotional during her brief remarks. 'Cherish what's valuable, what's significant in life.' Tens of thousands of fans are in San Francisco to commemorate the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary with concerts and other activities throughout the city. The latest iteration of the band, Dead & Company, with original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, will play Golden Gate Park's Polo Field for three days starting Friday. An estimated 60,000 attendees are expected each day. Formed in 1965, the Grateful Dead played often and for free in their early years while living in a cheap Victorian home in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. The band later became a significant part of 1967's Summer of Love, and the Grateful Dead has become synonymous with San Francisco and its bohemian counterculture. On Friday, fans in rainbow tie-dye and Grateful Dead T-shirts whooped and cheered as the sign was unveiled. Nonfans with shopping bags and some using walking canes maneuvered around the crowd on what was for them just another foggy day in the working-class neighborhood. Afterward, devotees peeled off to pose for photos in front of Garcia's childhood home. Jared Yankee, 23, got the crowd to join him in singing 'Happy Birthday.' Yankee said he flew in from Rhode Island for the shows. He got into the music about a decade ago. 'It's a human thing,' he said of his impromptu singing. 'I figure everyone knows the words to 'Happy Birthday.''

Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Paramore singer Hayley Williams simultaneously released 17 solo songs to streaming platforms, but instead of an album, each song was packaged as an independent single. Williams, who previously released the songs exclusively on her website for fans who used purchase codes from her Good Dye Young hair dye company during the weekend, dropped the 17 songs Friday to streaming platforms including YouTube and Spotify. The songs are titled "Blood Bros," "True Believer," "Hard," "I Won't Quit On You," "Discovery Channel," "Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party," "Zissou," "Disappearing Man," "Negative Self Talk," "Love Me Different," "Brotherly Hate," "Mirtazapine," "Whim," "Dream Girl In Shibuya," "Kill Me," "Glum" and "Ice In My OJ." The singer uploaded artwork and credits for each of the songs on Instagram. Touring Paramore band members including guitarist Brian Robert Jones and bassist Joey Howard played on the songs, and Daniel James is listed as producer and co-writer on all of the tracks. Queen Elizabeth's grandson is engaged four years after divorce

The royal debuted his new fiancée in a magazine photo shoot. Peter Phillips, the eldest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, is officially engaged. The 47-year-old, who is the son of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, confirmed his engagement to Harriet Sperling, a pediatric nurse and freelance writer, on Friday. A spokesperson for the couple said in a statement shared with CNN that 'both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement.' The spokesperson added that King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate have all been informed — but no wedding date has been set yet. Phillips and Sperling announced their engagement with a magazine-style reveal, posing together in a field for a photo shoot in Hello!, with Sperling's ring clearly on display. The couple have reportedly been dating since at least May 2024, when they were spotted at the Badminton Horse Trials with Phillips' daughters and Queen Camilla. Sperling, whose late father was Rupert Sanders, works for the U.K.'s National Health Service and has written publicly about her experience with postpartum depression. Phillips was previously married to Canadian-born Autumn Kelly, with whom he shares two daughters, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13. The couple divorced amicably in 2021 and share custody of their children.
