Family caught in Montreal shootout suing police, city
Houssam Abdallah and his family members allege the officers acted negligently and recklessly towards them, causing lasting physical and mental impacts.
Lawyer Virginie Dufresne-Lemire says Abdallah was shot six times and his son was shot once during a shootout between police and a 26-year-old suspect in August 2024.
The lawyer says the suspect allegedly tried to steal Abdallah's vehicle before exchanging gunfire with police in front of the family's home in the Montreal suburb of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.
The family says Abdallah and his son were left on the ground without medical care for at least an hour and were eventually handcuffed.
Quebec's Crown prosecution office announced in June it would not lay charges against Montreal police officers in the case, following an investigation by the province's police watchdog.

One person seriously injured in stabbing near Dufferin and Bloor

Emergency services were called to a residential neighbourhood near Bloor Street West and Russett Avenue, west of Dufferin Street, around 4 p.m. Toronto paramedics say the victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police are searching for a suspect described as a Black male, six-feet tall, between 40 and 50 years old and was wearing black jacket, pants, a black baseball hat and glasses. He was last seen northbound on Dufferin Street. The circumstances that led to the stabbing are not immediately known.

Saskatoon suspicious death now deemed homicide
Saskatoon police say they are investigating a suspicious death from last week as a homicide. Around 12:40 a.m. on July 31, police were called to an address in the 300 block of Avenue J South for a report of an injured person, Saskatoon police said in a news release Wednesday. Arriving officers found the body of a 27-year-old woman. This is Saskatoon's 7th homicide of 2025. The Saskatoon Police Service says its major crime section is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to the police or Crime Stoppers.
