Madhuri Dixit's lookalike whose debut film was hit, rejected Shah Rukh Khan's film, quit acting for love to become second wife of..., her name is...

In an industry obsessed with fame, one rising star walked away when the spotlight was brightest — and all for love. While Madhuri Dixit reigned supreme in the '90s, another actress quietly stole hearts with her debut. Her name was Farheen Khan, and with just one film, she became the talk of the town. Many called her 'Chhoti Madhuri' because of her uncanny resemblance to the superstar.
A smashing debut and then a short run
Farheen stepped into Bollywood in 1992 with Jaan Tere Naam opposite Ronit Roy. The film was a hit, and her fame soared overnight. Roles followed, from Sainik to Aag Ka Toofan, Dil Ki Baazi to Amaanat, and she even starred opposite Akshay Kumar in several films. But stardom didn't keep her long.
Why did she turn down Baazigar?
Farheen was offered a supporting role in Baazigar — yes, the same film that became a turning point for Shah Rukh Khan and launched Shilpa Shetty. But she turned it down, not because it was a smaller role, but because she had already signed Kamal Haasan's Kalaignan (1993), where she played Bindiya.
A love story that changed everything
At the peak of her career, Farheen met former cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, a father at the time, and love bloomed. In 1994, they got married. Reports even suggest she was pregnant before the wedding. Soon after, she stepped away from the industry for good.
In just five years, Farheen did 17 films, then chose a quieter life, away from the arc lights. Fame came quickly, but so did her graceful exit.

Just Like Shah Rukh Khan, Tahir Raj Bhasin Hopes To Redefine Bollywood

Tahir Raj Bhasin shared that he aspires to bring a similar blend of charm and disruption to today's cinema like Shah Rukh Khan who redefined stardom in the 1990s. Tahir Raj Bhasin is gaining a lot of recognition for his role as an antagonist in Special Ops 2.0. In his latest interview, Tahir opened up about how he manifests his career to turn out. He shared that he aspires to bring a similar blend of charm and disruption to today's cinema like Shah Rukh Khan who redefined stardom in the 1990s. Tahir discussed the dynamic environment of Indian cinema and the influences that continue to shape his journey. In conversation with Hindustan Times, Tahir Raj Bhasin said, '90s SRK was disruptive. It was the villain in Baazigar and the charmer that we saw in DDLJ. SRK today is an icon, but what he was doing in the 90s, were all the kind of heroes like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, who were flawed and had an element of charm to them. And so comes the idea to me that I would lend my skill to stories that are disruptive and drive them as entertainingly as possible." Moving on, Tahir described Bollywood as a 'living organism" while reflecting on the current state of the Hindi film business, particularly in relation to the thriving South film Industry. He mentioned that Bollywood evolves and has to change and adapt to the audience. On the professional front, Tahir has wrapped a mystery thriller for Netflix with Parineeti Chopra, directed by Renzil D'Silva and produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra. Though the actor did not divulge much about the role, he noted that it is a new genre for him. Tahir played the role of Collector, the antagonist in Neeraj Pandey's Special Ops 2, alongside Kay Kay Menon. Special Ops 2 follows Himmat Singh and his team of secret spies. This time, they're fighting an AI threat rather than terrorists. Tahir's character kidnaps India's renowned scientist, who has access to all key sites and knowledge about the country. The Collector's motive for the kidnapping was to gain control of India. First Published: July 28, 2025, 12:41 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Shah Rukh Khan is very hardworking, rehearsed with me endlessly on my suggestion during Yes Boss shoot': Ashok Saraf

We all remember the memorable song 'Chaand Taare' from Aziz Mirza's 1997 romantic comedy Yes Boss. It's not only rendered with wide-eyed wonder by singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, but also performed by Shah Rukh Khan with so much infectious earnestness. Eagle-eyed fans noticed how the actor even shot in front of the building that became Mannat, his future home, on Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai just four years later. Ashok Saraf, who shared screen space with Shah Rukh in that film and in that song, has fond memories of working with the actor. They also shared screen space in Rakesh Roshan's 1995 blockbuster reincarnation saga Karan Arjun. But Saraf's enduring memory of Shah Rukh is from their Yes Boss days. 'There's no one as hardworking in the industry as him. He works very hard for his role. He's always alive to ideas on how he can make it better. He hasn't become a star just like that. He never leaves even a small thing behind that could potentially help his performance,' Saraf told Radio Nasha. Ashok Saraf recalled suggesting Shah Rukh Khan to try one of their scenes differently, and the star took to his suggestion earnestly. 'He said, 'Let's do a rehearsal.' He rehearsed so many times! He didn't let it go till the scene was perfect. Usually, actors aren't open to suggestions like these. They refuse to do the scene again. But he's not like that. He always tries and then sees if it works or not. He's a very good human too,' said Saraf. 'If someone asks me who has a lot of energy, I'd point them to Shah Rukh. He has so much energy that he never stops. He never gets tired. It's a huge deal, especially for today. Others should learn this from him. That's why he's reached where he is today. I'm really fond of him,' added Saraf. The actor also said that he doesn't get to meet either Shah Rukh or their Karan Arjun co-star Salman Khan these days. Also Read — Kajol was 'not sure' about doing Baazigar with Shah Rukh Khan, father convinced her to work with Abbas-Mustan: 'What is this film, what am I doing in it?' Ashok Saraf isn't the first actor to rave about Shah Rukh Khan's hard work on a film set. Karisma Kapoor, Shah Rukh's co-star from Yash Chopra's 1997 blockbuster romantic musical Dil To Pagal Hai, also called him 'hardworking' as compared to the 'fun' Salman Khan and the 'perfectionist' Aamir Khan, in an interview with Pinkvilla last year. Also, last year on Raj Shamani's podcast, Farhan Akhtar claimed Shah Rukh gets 'obsessed' with his projects. The actor-filmmaker has directed Shah Rukh in the successful Don franchise.
