Nasdaq-listed DeFi Technologies launches UAE office to expand into MENA

Zawya6 hours ago
UAE - DeFi Technologies, a financial technology company bridging the gap between traditional capital markets and decentralized finance (DeFi), has launched business in the UAE.
The company expanded in the GCC and MENA region with the registration of DEFI DMCC with offices in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, according to a press release.
Through its subsidiary Valour, and Valour Digital Securities Limited, DeFi Technologies inaugurated a trading desk at Dubai Multi Commodities Center (DMCC) in the UAE.
Meanwhile, the company aims to support the rising institutional interest in digital assets in the GCC region and specifically in the UAE. This expansion supports its strategy to scale product offerings and global footprint.
Being the first Nasdaq-listed digital asset manager of its kind, DeFi Technologies offers equity investors diversified exposure to the wider decentralized economy through its integrated and scalable business model.
This includes Valour, which offers access to more than 65 of the world's most innovative digital assets via regulated ETPs with plans to offer 100 by the end of 2025.
Andrew Forson, President of DeFi Technologies and Chief Growth Officer of Valour, stated: ' We believe the demand for digital asset ETPs will increase not only globally but in the GCC and Middle East."
Forson added:"Investors whether sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors, family offices and even retail investors are interested in crypto but require familiar and efficient vehicles to get exposure.'
'Wrapping digital assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum in regulated financial instruments such as ETPs will increase the number of crypto investors and offer countries such as the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia access to international foreign investment,' he noted.

India's scam call centres targeting UAE residents go silent after KT investigation

Scam operations in Noida and Jaipur have been abruptly suspended after a Khaleej Times investigation exposed how Indian call centres were posing as Dubai-based forex firms to defraud UAE residents using spoofed +971 numbers. An employee from one of the Noida centres said there was panic after the report went viral internally. 'It was circulated everywhere. Managers were asking how the operation leaked,' he said. 'We were all told to go home and not come back until things cool down.' This isn't the first time an exposé has forced such a move. Last month, a call centre in Dubai's IMPZ area pushing similar shady platforms shut down its operations overnight after a separate Khaleej Times report. All staff were sent home without notice. The latest Khaleej Times investigation traced the scam to three centres, two in Noida and one in Jaipur, where agents used leaked UAE phone lists and sales scripts to pose as licensed brokers in Dubai. But it was the digital trail that helped unravel the deeper connection. Domain records and addresses showed multiple platforms — F1Capitals, Algo Global International, Arbitrage Prime and Oscar Markets — linked to the same Saint Lucia address. Even more telling, their websites were registered under the same proxy email and backend infrastructure, pointing to a coordinated syndicate operating across India and the UAE. Since the reports were published, Khaleej Times has been inundated with distress messages from victims, some claiming losses of up to half a million dirhams. Others wrote in saying they narrowly escaped after reading the story. Earlier, the UAE's Ministry of Interior issued a public warning, urging residents to check a platform's registration with the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) before investing.

Dubai Municipality launches ‘Future Talents' programme to train 200 students in future skills

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Municipality has launched the latest edition of its summer training initiative, the 'Future Talents' programme, aimed at equipping 200 students with essential skills for the future labour market. The programme targets students from universities, colleges, and high schools (Grades 11 and 12), offering practical training across a variety of administrative, technical, and field disciplines. The initiative reflects Dubai Municipality's commitment to empowering young Emirati talent by providing experiential learning opportunities aligned with the Municipality's areas of specialisation. It also supports the broader objective of preparing a future-ready generation capable of contributing to national development. Abdulla Khalfan, Acting Director of the Human Resources Department at Dubai Municipality, said: 'Future Talents is one of the key programmes implemented by Dubai Municipality to attract and develop promising national talent. It enables students to enhance their academic knowledge with practical experience, helping them gain the skills and insights required to navigate the evolving labour market and seize future opportunities.' He added: 'The training agenda is designed to mirror students' academic fields, combining theoretical learning with real-world application. This approach provides students with a clearer understanding of their chosen disciplines while offering a first-hand view of institutional operations and professional responsibilities.' The four-week programme runs eight hours per day and places students across various Dubai Municipality departments based on their academic specialisation. The experience is structured to foster a comprehensive understanding of institutional work culture while sharpening core competencies such as communication, teamwork, and punctuality. In addition to building technical knowledge, the programme helps students develop personal and professional networks to support their career progression. Last year, Dubai Municipality trained 60 university and college students across 16 departments through the 'Future Talents' summer programme. In 2025, the initiative has been expanded to include high school participants for the first time.
