Haryana sweep team titles at sub junior national boxing meet
GREATER NOIDA: Haryana's young boxing brigade delivered a stunning all-round performance at the 4th Sub Junior (U-15) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships, clinching the overall team titles in both the categories. Competing against the best emerging talent from across India at Galgotias University, Haryana's boxers combined skill, power and consistency to finish atop the standings ahead of Services in the boys' division and girls' competition. The championship took place in the presence of SpiceJet's Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Singh who also honoured Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University. The event was also graced by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon'ble Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education and Olympic medalist Vijender Singh, along with other dignitaries who witnessed the spirited contests from ringside. In the boys' category, Haryana secured 4 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals to claim the team crown, while Services followed closely with 5 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze. Uttar Pradesh rounded off the podium with 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Haryana's charge was led by clean-sweep wins from Ravi Sihag (49–52kg) and Sanchit Jayani (55–58kg), alongside solid podium finishes across weight classes. The girls' team mirrored this success, producing champions in multiple divisions including Garima (35–37kg), Princi (49–52kg), Sunaina (58–61kg), Jivika (61–64kg) and Radhika Sharma (67–70kg). Services finished second overall, with gold medalists like Navya (52–55kg) and Nishalini Muthukumar (43–46kg), while Maharashtra claimed third place with standout wins from Riya Shinde (30–33kg) and Ovi Adwant (46–49kg). Haryana's dominance was further reflected in the final team rankings, with the state securing the top spot in both boys' and girls' categories. In the boys' division, Haryana (4 Gold, 2 Silver, 6 Bronze – 47 pts) took home the crown, followed by Services (5 Gold, 4 Silver, 9 Bronze – 38 pts) and Uttar Pradesh (2 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze – 34 pts), with Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu completing the top five. The girls' team rankings saw Haryana once again lead the table (5 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze – 57 pts), ahead of Services (3 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze – 42 pts) and Punjab (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze – 33 pts), while Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra rounded out the top five. Special awards went to S Obrait Meccades of Tamil Nadu (Best Boxer – Boys), Abhijeet Tehlan of Services (Best Challenger – Boys), Trushana Vinayak Mohite of Services (Best Boxer – Girls) and Nayana Yahvi S. of Karnataka (Best Challenger – Girls), highlighting individual brilliance amid intense competition. 4th Sub-Junior Boxing Nationals From August 7, Over 700 Youngsters To Compete
Last Updated: Boxing Federation of India announced the 4th Sub-Junior (U-15) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships from August 7 to 13, featuring over 700 young boxers. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) announced on Tuesday that the 4th Sub-Junior (U-15) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships will take place from August 7 to 13 at Galgotias University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The event will feature over 700 young boxers, including 400 boys and 300 girls aged between 13 and 14, competing across 15 weight categories. Aligned with BFI's broader vision to create a strong pathway from grassroots to elite levels, the Sub-Junior Nationals play a vital role in identifying promising young talent and preparing them for higher competition levels. This event follows the successful completion of the men's, women's, and junior nationals earlier this year, which have already produced international medallists and future stars. Haryana (Girls) and Chandigarh (Boys) will enter this edition as the defending champions from the 3rd Sub-Junior Nationals. Boxers will compete under World Boxing Technical Rules, engaging in three rounds of 1.5 minutes each, with a minute's rest between rounds. A 10-point scoring system will be used. Medal winners from the REC Combined Talent Hunt 2024 are also eligible to participate, adding to the competitiveness of the event. An official from BFI remarked, 'The Sub-Junior Nationals are where India's boxing journey truly begins. This platform helps identify talented individuals and allows them to experience real competition early in their careers. The skills, discipline, and confidence developed here are the first building blocks of international success. This is a significant grassroots step in these young boxers' journeys, and we're sure we'll see many stars of the future in action." Indian boxing's youth programme has been gaining global attention, not only at the senior level but also in age-group competitions. At the recent Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships, Indian boxers secured 43 medals and finished second overall, showcasing the depth of talent and promise within the junior ranks. Mizoram's Top Boxing Coach Arrested For Sexual Abuse of Minor Athletes
Mizoram's top boxing coach Lathlengliana was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 at the women police station in Aizawl, police sources said. He was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing four sub-junior women boxers who represented Mizoram in the 6th Junior (U-17) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships recently held in Haryana's Rohtak, the police sources further stated. According to the complaint letter, the women boxers have stated that the boxing coach allegedly sexually abused them even while they were undergoing training at the Mizoram Boxing Association (MIZBA) boxing hall at the Ramhlun Sports Complex in Aizawl. The female boxers have lodged a complaint with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Aizawl, following which an FIR was registered at the police station, according to police sources.

Mizoram boxing coach held on charges of raping women pugilists
Aizawl: Boxing coach Lalthlengliana was arrested on Tuesday and booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012, at the women police station in Aizawl for allegedly sexually abusing four sub-junior women boxers who represented Mizoram in the 6th Junior (U-17) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships recently held in Haryana's Rohtak, reports HC Vanlalruata. Police said the four girls lodged a complaint to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Aizawl after which an FIR was lodged at the police station on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of Lalthlengliana on the same day. The women boxers complained that the boxing coach sexually abused them even while they were undergoing training at the Mizoram Boxing Association (MIZBA) boxing hall at the Ramhlun Sports Complex in Aizawl. It is not yet known if another complaint will be submitted against the MIZBA leaders for sending a male coach to look after under-aged women boxers.

Services dominate 6th Junior National Boxing Championships, clinch team gold in both boys and girls categories
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) stamped their authority at the 6th Junior (U-17) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships, emerging as overall champions in both Boys and Girls categories. In a tournament that showcased India's promising next generation of boxing talent, Services reclaimed the team title in the Boys division and pulled off a decisive victory in the Girls category, toppling defending champions Haryana, who finished second across both. Backed by clinical performances across weight classes, the Services contingent wrapped up the week-long event at the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak with nine medals in each category. Their Boys squad tallied six golds, two silvers, and a bronze to reassert their dominance, while the Girls team delivered four golds, four silvers, and one bronze. Maharashtra completed the podium in the Boys championship, while Manipur finished third in the Girls division, said release. On the girls' side, several familiar names from India's recent success at the Asian U-15 & U-17 Championships delivered once again. Delhi's Ahaana Sharma continued her blazing form in the 50kg final with a clean sweep. Khushi Chand of Uttarakhand clinched a narrow 3-2 win in the 46kg division, while Haryana's Anshika reaffirmed her dominance in the 80+kg category. Services' dual team triumph was powered by a series of dominant final bouts across both divisions.
