Great Crossing looks to finish the job this weekend in state tournament

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Great Crossing high school boys basketball team made its first trip to the KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament last season, but lost in the state semifinals to Lyon County. The Warhawks will look to finish the job this year. Mr. Basketball winner and future Kentucky Wildcat Travis Perry leads Lyon County to glory Travis Perry was last season's Kentucky Mr. Basketball winner and led his Lyon County squad to the state title before moving on to play for the University of Kentucky the following season. This year, Malachi Moreno is looking to do the same thing this weekend before making Rupp Arena his new home next year. 'Every team there, they're there for a reason. So we can't go in a game expecting it to be a blowout, when we got to go in a game like it's going to be a dogfight and we got to play our best, play the hardest and be the winning team,' Moreno said. The Warhawks emerged from another difficult 11th Region, taking down Frederick Douglass in a nail-biting region championship game to punch their ticket back to the Sweet 16. While that helps bring confidence on the court, that experience has helped this team stay composed off the court. 'I think our kids have stayed pretty levelheaded, we haven't gotten too deep into the weeds of what this means. I already know they were there last year. You know, every other year of our program, we've had multiple goals. This year, we had one goal to cut down the nets on Saturday night,' head coach Steve Page said.
