Australia Vs South Africa: AUS's Marsh & SA's Markram Square-Off In T20I Series

Last Updated: South Africa, after winning the 2025 World Test Championship, is set for a T20 series in Australia. Key players Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada return. A few months after South Africa made history by defeating Australia in the final of the 2025 World Test Championship, the Proteas are now focused on refining their T20 squad with a three-game series in Australia. The series will start with back-to-back matches at the TIO Stadium in Marrara, concluding at the Cazalys Stadium in Westcourt, Cairns. Australia's batting strength has been enhanced by the return of Travis Head, which was evident in their recent 5-0 sweep against the West Indies. Captain Mitchell Marsh confirmed that he and Head will be opening the innings for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, South Africa took part in a tri-series in Zimbabwe but lost to New Zealand in the final with an experimental squad. For the Proteas, several key players have returned for this trip, including captain Aiden Markram and pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada, although the series remains a test for the young side. Marsh commented on the thrilling challenge of facing a youthful team. 'They've some young guys that have, I guess, burst onto the scene over the last couple of years. That's always exciting for international cricket, and provides us with a different challenge, but certainly looking forward to coming up against them," said Marsh to reporters on Friday. India's Upcoming Test Series In WTC 2025-27 Cycle: 2 Matches Vs NZ, 5 Against AUS

Last Updated: India will next play a Test match in October 2025 against the West Indies in front of the home fans and then take on South Africa as well in the following month. India, after failing to qualify for the final of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) at Lord's, kicked off the 2025-27 WTC cycle by playing a 2-2 draw against England in a five-match Test series. In the first of the three away series each team is supposed to play in a WTC cycle, India lost the series opener in Leeds by five wickets and the third Test at Lord's by 22 runs but secured the first-ever Test win at Edgbaston for an Asian team by 336 runs and a close win by six runs in the fifth and final Test played at the Oval from July 31 to August 4. India managed to secure a total of 28 points out of the available 60 from the England series and, as a result, settled for the third position in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. Following the conclusion of the England tour, the Indian team will play five more Test series in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. Of those remaining five series, three are scheduled to take place in India, and for two series, India will travel overseas next year. Here's a look at India's upcoming Test series in the 2025-27 WTC cycle: 2 Tests vs West Indies (Home) India will next play a Test match in October 2025 against the West Indies. The two-match Test series against the Roston Chase-led side will start on October 2 in Ahmedabad. Narendra Modi Stadium will host the series opener from October 2 to 6, and the second Test is scheduled to take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. India last played a Test match against the West Indies team in July 2023 at Port of Spain. In that match, Virat Kohli scored a century for the Rohit Sharma-led side, but due to rain, it ended in a draw. In November 2025, 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) winners South Africa will line up against the Indian team. The two-match Test series between India and South Africa will start on November 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium will host the second Test from November 22 to 26. In the last Test series played against the Proteas in India, the Virat Kohli-led side won all three matches in October 2019. 2 Tests vs Sri Lanka (Away) The Indian men's cricket team will travel to Sri Lanka in July 2026 for a two-match series. India last played a Test series against Sri Lanka in March 2022 and won both the matches under Rohit Sharma's leadership. India's last trip to Sri Lanka for a Test series was way back in July-August 2017, and in that assignment, India won all three matches. India is scheduled to travel to New Zealand for a two-match Test series in November 2026. In the tour of New Zealand, the Indian team would like to take revenge for the humiliating 0-3 defeat in the three-match series played last year in front of home fans. India last toured New Zealand for a Test series in February-March 2020 but suffered defeat in both the matches under Virat Kohli's leadership. 5 Tests vs Australia (Home) In the first quarter of 2027, India will face Australia in a five-match Test series at home. In the last edition (2024-25) of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah (captained in two matches), suffered a defeat by a margin of 1-3. However in the last series played against the Baggy Greens at home in February-March 2023, India won with a scoreline of 2-1. Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18. World Test Championship: 'Something needs to be done,' AB de Villiers proposes change to WTC format

South Africa beat Australia to win the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final. (AP) Former South Africa cricket captain AB de Villiers has called for changes to the World Test Championship (WTC) format, as the 2025-2027 cycle began on Tuesday with Bangladesh taking on Sri Lanka. His comments come after South Africa's victory over Australia in the 2023-2025 WTC final at Lord's, with the new cycle starting just five days after the conclusion of the previous one. The WTC format has faced criticism during the previous cycle, particularly regarding South Africa's qualification for the final. Questions were raised about the fairness of the points system and scheduling, with critics highlighting disparities in the number of matches played and the strength of opposition faced by different teams. I saw the schedule that came out for the next cycle of the WTC and there is an improvement, but I still feel there's work that needs to be done there to just to get it as consistent as possible and as fair as possible for all for all Test-playing nations," de Villiers told BBC Sport . 'South Africa kept fighting, deserved champions': Pat Cummins De Villiers has proposed extending the WTC cycle to four years, allowing for a more comprehensive competition structure where all participating nations can face each other. "You want to get to that final feeling like you've played against all these nations. Maybe a four-year cycle would be nice. We've done that in the past with one-day internationals, so why not in Test cricket? It would make sense and it would give the organisers just so much more time to get a really fair, well-balanced system out there," he stated. The upcoming 2025-2027 WTC cycle began with Sri Lanka hosting Bangladesh in a two-match series and will continue with India taking on England in a five-match series. The scheduling of the new cycle has drawn attention, as it begins almost immediately after the conclusion of the previous final, leaving minimal transition time between the two periods. De Villiers, who witnessed South Africa's historic WTC victory at Lord's, expressed confidence in the lasting impact of this achievement on South African cricket. "It's a long time until our next Test match, but there's no doubt it won't be forgotten. I've absolutely no doubt the Proteas have sort of stirred the emotions of the South African cricketing fans and they will patiently wait for that next encounter," he remarked. Marnus Labuschagne Likely To Be Dropped After WTC Final, Coach Hints

Last Updated: Marnus Labuschagne is facing the axe after his failures in the WTC Final against South Africa despite a switch in the batting position. After Australia's five-wicket loss to South Africa in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's on Saturday, head coach Andrew McDonald has hinted at possible changes to the top order, including a likely snub for Marnus Labuschagne, ahead of the new cycle starting in the West Indies. Labuschagne was promoted to open alongside Usman Khawaja for the first time to accommodate all-rounder Cameron Green at number three. However, this strategy failed as Labuschagne failed to convert stars, continuing his poor form, while both Khawaja and Green struggled even more. 'It was a big discussion leading into this Test match, and I was on the record a couple of weeks ago talking about the need to bed down that opening combination," McDonald told the media. 'We've had a bit of musical chairs there, so it might be the time. But as we sit here right now, you got to say that South Africa were better in this Test match. We've got to look at the improvements that we need to make. There's no doubt about that." Mostly batting at number three, Labuschagne averaged just 27.82 in the 2023-25 WTC cycle. McDonald gave a mixed answered on his form, saying that though Australia value him and are 'confident' he could be back to his best, 'most players get dropped' at some point. 'Anyone that averages 45, 46 in Test cricket at that age is important," the coach said. 'We've got older players there that are closer to the end than the start. We've got some younger players that are coming in. If he can get his game in good order for the next four or five years, he can underpin that batting order. But at the moment, he'd be disappointed with the returns. He's missed out on big scores. But we're confident that he could return to his best, and hence why we keep picking him. And at what point do we stop picking him? I think most players across their journey get dropped at some point in time. I think he had a positive week here where he worked on the right things and had a great prep. There's no harder worker than Marnus. Now it's really just about the returns. And at the moment, as I said, he'd be disappointed," he elaborated. Regarding Khawaja, McDonald was more certain and clear with his backing, hinting the left-hander could be given a similar opportunity to David Warner when he was nearing the end of his Test career. 'He's on contract; he's an important player. He gives us stability at his best at the top. And we like to look at our players at their best. No doubt, a couple of failures here, and people then start to talk about maybe it's the end. I don't see an end date with the way he's training, the way he's preparing, and the way he's moving. He went back to Shield cricket and got 100 last (season). So I think he's got plenty of runs left in him. It'll come down to his inner drive and the way he prepares." 'It was a bit the same with Davey as well. The way he moved, we saw some positives in that. We knew that the runs were around the corner. We feel as though Usman's got a big part to play," he concluded. (With IANS Inputs) First Published: June 15, 2025, 13:55 IST

WTC Final 2025, SA vs AUS Live Cricket Score Streaming Online: Where to Watch South Africa vs Australia Match Live?

Temba Bavuma's South Africa faces Pat Cummins' Australia in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) Final that starts on Wednesday at Lord's. This is the third edition of the marquee Test match and Australia are the defending champions. They are already the holders of the ODI World Cup and have won almost every major trophy on offer in cricket. South Africa, on the other hand, will be looking to put the infamous tag of 'chokers' behind them with a win. Marnus Labuschagne has moved up the order for Australia to become Usman Khawaja's latest opening batter. Cameron Green, who is set to play as a specialist batter, takes his No.3 spot. The 19-year-old specialist opener Sam Konstas was left out and Travis Head, preferred in Sri Lanka in February, will drop back to No. 5 in the order. South Africa gave Lungi Ngidi's experience the edge over Dane Paterson as the third seamer. Ngidi hasn't played a test since August but 19 tests and 55 wickets, including Joe Root's at Lord's in 2022, put him in the pace attack with Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen. Paterson, more deceptive than fast, earned five-fors in his last two tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in December and played at Lord's three times in the last two months for Middlesex in the English County Championship second division but that wasn't enough.
