How to ‘Rent a Pet' from the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility
BUCKHANNON, (WBOY) — Considering adopting a rescue animal but worried about getting the right fit? The Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility will let you 'rent a pet' for a few hours or even a few days. The Rent-a-Pet program was approved by the Upshur County Commission last year and allows certain dogs and cats to be taken out of the shelter before an adoption has been finalized. The program lets prospective pets and owners get a feel for each other before they become roommates and companions for life. Although many shelters require meetings prior to adoptions, the Rent-a-Pet program lets possible owners see how the animal will adapt to a new home. Buckhannon's 83rd Strawberry Festival honors first responders However, you don't have to be considering adoption to take an animal on an out-of-shelter excursion. WBOY's 304 Today lifestyle show host, Lauren Winans, regularly takes adoptable animals on walks and visits local businesses in Buckhannon. These pets are frequently featured on the show. Jet, the dog featured in the video above, is no longer up for adoption, but there are lots of other adoptable animals at the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control; a full list of animals is available on the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility website. To learn more about how to Rent a Pet, you can visit the shelter on Mud Lick Road in Buckhannon between 10 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Monday-Saturday or call (304) 472-3865.
