CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Robinson Grand hosted the 8th Born and Bred Concert Series Friday night, featuring the Argument and Last Year's Model.
Created to spotlight homegrown talent, Born & Bred offers local artists a professional platform to showcase original work. The series continues to expand, now representing over 1,000 musicians from across the state striving to reach broader audiences and national stages.
'We started making music again a few years ago, even though we broke up in 2006, but we were sending it around because everyone has left the area except for our base player. So, we had no designs to do a reunion show, but Born & Bred and Robinson Grand approached us, and man, we're so glad they did. We're so grateful to have another chance to perform and relive the old days,' Singer and Songwriter of the Argument Scott Simons said.

The Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center is proud to present what is being billed as 'the ultimate Journey Tribute Experience,' featuring a live performance by Separate Ways The Band on Friday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. This event promises an evening of high-energy entertainment, celebrating the iconic music of Journey in a dynamic tribute performance.
'People don't realize, like West Virginia is being considered a hot spot for music so it's been really cool for us to be there and highlight all that, and cover it, and get these bands exposure they need,' the Lead Singer of Last Year's Model and Co-Owner of Born & Bred Brendan Gallagher said.
Also, audiences can enjoy even more local talent every Monday at 4 p.m. during Music Mondays on WBOY's 304 Today, where host Lauren Winans highlights featured artists from throughout the Mountain State. Musicians interested in being featured on the program are encouraged to send their contact information to news@wboy.com.

Pope Leo XIV rocks White Sox hat at the Vatican in new photos

Pope Leo XIV brought his White Sox fandom to the Vatican on Wednesday. While holding a general audience in St. Peter's Square, the Chicago-bred pontiff was photographed wearing a black White Sox cap as he greeted onlookers, including a bride and groom who appeared to be fellow fans of the AL Central club. Pope Leo XIV's sports allegiances were thrust into the spotlight in May when he made history after being elected the first American pope. He succeeded Pope Francis, who died in April at the age of 88 after a lengthy battle with double pneumonia. 6 Pope Leo XIV was seen wearing a Chicago White Sox hat at the Vatican on June 11, 2025. 'He was never ever a Cubs fan, so I don't know where that came from,' Prevost told local Chicago station WGN TV. 'He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don't know, maybe that clued in there and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don't know where all that came from. 'And all the aunts, our mom's family was from the north side, so that's why they were Cubs fans.' 6 Pope Leo XIV waved to onlookers in St. Peter's Square on June 11, 2025. Beyond the White Sox, who lost a record 121 games last season, Pope Leo XIV is also a Villanova Wildcat, having graduated from the university in 1977. Knicks fans were hopeful Pope Leo's Villanova ties would fuel a championship berth with former Wildcats Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges. The Knicks ultimately lost to the Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.

West Virginia native wins Jeopardy! in landslide victory

(WBOY) — A contestant who is originally from West Virginia won big on Jeopardy Tuesday night. Matt Massie, an attorney originally from South Charleston, West Virginia, took a commanding lead during the episode that aired on June 10 when he wagered a true Daily Double during Double Jeopardy. He answered the question correctly and doubled his $7,200 winnings to $14,400. By the end of the round, he had more than three times the winnings of the contestant in second place. Massie also answered the Final Jeopardy question correctly, bringing his total winnings to $30,000 for the day. You can watch Massie play again on June 11 at 7 p.m. on WBOY-NBC. WATCH: West Virginia's Fiesta Tableware appears as a clue on Jeopardy! The last West Virginia native champion, Adriana Harmeyer who won 15 games earlier this year, received some criticism in her home state because she never mentioned the Mountain State during her tenure on the show. Massie, on the other hand, was announced as being originally from West Virginia and even shared an anecdote about West Virginia during the contestant interview segment in the middle of the show. Massie said that while he was in law school, he helped sort out an error with the voting and Senate districts in the small unincorporated community of Malden in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He learned that the community had been sorted into the wrong district for the State Senate and had been voting for the wrong candidates for three election cycles. Massie was able to take the problem to the Kanawha County Commission and get it fixed in 2016, he said on the show. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
