IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'I cannot believe' - Gavaskar, Trott fume as Joe Root survives close LBW call on Day 4
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 13: Joe Root of England reacts towards during Day Four of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 13, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) India and England played out a tense day of cricket on Sunday — the 4th day of the 3rd Test at Lord's. From fiery comments to blistering deliveries and on-field banter, the day's play had it all. While England were bowled out by the visitors for just 192 in their second innings, one umpiring decision left the Indian team bewildered. Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj were visibly enraged as umpire Paul Reiffel made the surprising decision to give Joe Root a lifeline at the crease. Standing on 36, the batter was caught off guard by a delivery from Siraj that zipped onto his pad from the off side. The bowler and his skipper were convinced they had claimed his wicket, but were left stunned when the umpire remained unconvinced. Opting for the review, it was soon revealed that the ball had pitched in line and struck in line, with its trajectory clipping the top of the leg stump. However, it was deemed 'umpire's call', and the on-field decision of not out stood. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Having looked at that replay, I thought it was crashing into the inside part of the leg stump. Watching it in real time, I couldn't believe it was missing. You thought it was crashing into the inside of the stump. When you saw that at normal speed, it was hardly missing leg stump. England survive again. India animated.' While Root didn't survive for long after the heavily debated call, he did add four more runs to his tally. He was eventually dismissed for 40 by Washington Sundar, who bowled him clean in the 43rd over. Root narrowly escaping from Siraj's clutches was heavily protested by Ravichandran Ashwin as well, who claimed that he found it "difficult" to deal with Paul Reiffel during his playing days. IND vs ENG Lord's Test: Mohammed Siraj leaves ‘Home of Cricket' buzzing with his aggression
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 13: Mohammed Siraj of India appeals unsuccesfully as Joe Root of England narrowly avoids a collision during Day Four of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 13, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) London: Mohammed Siraj has made a habit of unsettling the Lord's crowd. Conservative spectators here, proud of the tradition of the gentleman's game, have been frowning upon the pacer's relentless, in-your-face aggression since Saturday evening, when he had a go at Zak Crawley for the England opener's delaying antics. This is not the first time Siraj has let himself loose at Lord's. His one-on-one duel with James Anderson in 2021 is still being talked about. Virat Kohli's 'givethem-60-overs-of-hell' headlined India's memorable win at that time. Siraj had then been at the forefront of making things excruciatingly tough for England. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! On Sunday morning, India again needed that aggressive side of Siraj's character to resurface. This is a generation of Indian cricketers who are fearless and always up for a fight. Siraj took it on himself to fuel the entire team. He was about giving England hell as India took big strides towards forcing a result in their favour. Siraj was doing more than just complementing Jasprit Bumrah's usual probing spell. When he did get Ben Duckett to play a false shot for the first wicket of the day at mid-on, the expected war cry was followed by a shoulder nudge with Duckett. Rishabh Pant is India's TRUMP CARD in tense chase vs England at Lord's Immediately, the talk around Lord's was that Siraj deserved to be penalised for the act. The host broadcasters played out multiple replays that showed Siraj was walking straight lines and Duckett was the one who changed track to walk into Siraj. Was Siraj behaving in the right way? The debate got louder. Driven by the overwhelming desire to pull India ahead, the fast bowler was vocal and vibrant and also immaculate. Poll Should Mohammed Siraj be penalized for his shoulder nudge with Ben Duckett? Yes, that was unsportsmanlike No, it was just a competitive gesture He kept running in hard, hit the right lines and lengths, got the ball to do something and stayed in the face of England. His emotions compelled captain Shubman Gill to lose a review while challenging an LBW decision. Siraj made amends with another plea to Gill for a DRS after rapping Ollie Pope on the pads. As the giant screen showed three reds, Siraj got the entire ground buzzing again. Siraj bowled through the day, beating both edges of the English batters. He made his frustration obvious but never let that become the dominating emotion. On Sunday, when most walked in anticipating another day of slow burn, Siraj injected adrenaline into the game. IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Glory or gloom? Gripping finish on the cards, India end Day 4 at 58/4 in tricky chase of 193
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 13: Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill of India celebrate the dismissal of Jamie Smith of England during Day Four of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 13, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) London: All the chatter on the way to Lord's on Sunday morning was about the Wimbledon final to be played on the other side of the city. However, once inside, some exhilarating cricket took centre stage, with India calling the shots for most of the day before England threw some powerful punches in the last hour of the day to set the visitors back. It was the Indian pacers who were sending down the hot serves straightaway. England struggled to return blows with the bat as they folded for 192 with an hour and half left in the day's play. However, the home pacers then produced their most threatening spell of the series to have India reeling at 58/4, still 135 runs away from taking the lead in the series, when stumps were drawn. Tempers flared again on the fourth evening, with KL Rahul and night watchman Akash Deep repeating England's act of wasting time. Joe Root got into the act to egg the vociferous crowd on and the high-octane battle ended with England captain Ben Stokes uprooting Akash Deep's stumps. The pitch woke up from slumber and made for the toughest batting conditions so far in this series. Much of the credit for that can be cornered by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj 's relentless attack on the England batters in the first hour of the day. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Bumrah softened the batters with balls that spit off the pitch and flew past the noses of English openers. Both openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looked like they were living on borrowed time. Bumrah and Siraj finished with figures of 2/38 and 2/31 respectively and laid down the template on how to bowl on the devious fourth-day pitch. Washington Sundar reaped the benefits of the pressure created by the early-morning burst. The off-spinner stayed true to his line and length by removing Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jamie Smith and Shoaib Bashir in the last session to kill any chance of an England resurrection. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? India had successfully executed their plans. Rishabh Pant is India's TRUMP CARD in tense chase vs England at Lord's In effect, Bumrah and Siraj turned back the clock to Lord's 2021. Their precision and relentlessness exerted immense pressure on the English openers. After 40 minutes of play, just as when one thought India were out of luck, Siraj got Ben Duckett out to a desperate shot. It was high-octane cricket again after three days of slow burn. The temperature was considerably lower after three days of hot weather. Siraj and Bumrah turned up the heat on English batters. Bumrah was plain unlucky to go wicketless from the Nursery End after bowling for an hour. But when Siraj removed Ollie Pope LBW, the floodgates opened. All of captain Shubman Gill 's plans worked. Nitish Kumar Reddy surprisingly bowled ahead of Akash Deep, and sent back Crawley, with Jaiswal at gully pulling off a stunning catch. Poll How would you rate the overall quality of cricket played on the fourth day? Exceptional Good Average Poor Just as Harry Brook was getting started with his counterattack, Akash Deep knocked his stumps over as he attempted a fine sweep. When Root and Stokes tried to regain control through measured and riskless batting, Washington found a way of hitting their stumps when they tried to break free with sweep shots. Crawley's antics to delay proceedings last night may have spurred the Indian team on. They were not going to offer any respite. They were in the ears of the England batters and barely moved away from the plan of attacking the stumps. That Root and Stokes batted 22 overs to score 67 runs is testimony of India's impeccable discipline. England's most experienced batting pair could not find a way to put the pressure back on India's bowling. They were tied to the crease, playing for survival. Root was the highest scorer with the bat with 40 off 96. Stokes's grind of 33 off 96 ended with an ugly slog sweep off Washington. England got some breather with substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, keeping in England for the first time, conceding 25 byes. IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'We never win...' - R Ashwin takes a swipe at umpire Paul Reiffel
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 10: Ben Stokes of England talks with Umpire Paul Reiffel as the pitch is covered by flying ants and ladybirds during Day One of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 10, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) The 3rd Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England is shaping out into an exciting affair. The Indian bowling attack reduced England to a total of just 192 in their second innings, with India reaching 58/4 at stumps on Day 4. As passion and rivalry take center stage, former India spinner and veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has issued sharp remarks against umpire Paul Reiffel, detailing how 'difficult' it was to deal with him during his playing days. India came close to dismissing England batter Joe Root on Day 4 in the 2nd session, as Mohammed Siraj's sharp delivery was completely missed by the veteran. While the visitors were thoroughly convinced that they had the wicket in the bag, they were forced to control their frurstration as the DRS returned 'umpire's call' on impact. Reacting to the same, Ashwin went on a detailed rant about the umpire, while in conversation with Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel " Ash ki Baat ". Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "My experience with Paul Reiffel has been that you always have to talk to him. You have to set him up. I'm not saying that you have to tell him 'give me the wicket', said the 38-year-old. Ashwin then went on a rant about the umpire and his calls, saying, "Whenever India bowls, he (Paul Reiffel) feels that its not out. When India bats, he feels that its always out. If this was the case with every other team and not just India, then ICC will have to take a look at it. " Rishabh Pant is India's TRUMP CARD in tense chase vs England at Lord's Ashwin's complaints on the match official didn't end there, as he made a hilarious comment on another decision of his. Pointing to a picture of the ball passing past the bat in a DRS check without making contact, Ashwin said, "From between the bat and the ball, I own a car, a sedan, which can pass through the gap. It is clear that its not out." Further venting his frustration, Ashwin shared his father's comment that India can never win a match when Paul Reiffel is the umpire. "Whenever Paul Reiffel comes, we never win," Ashwin recounted his father's words. As India edge closer to potential victory on Day 5, the England bowlers will be hot on their heels to get early wickets and derail India's efforts. A win for India in this Test will see the visitors hold a 2-1 series lead heading into the penultimate match at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Mohammed Siraj hilariously trolls England batters for batting slow - 'Come on...'
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 10: Mohammed Siraj of India reacts after bowling to Joe Root of England during Day One of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 10, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) England have batted relatively slowly in the third Test match at Lord's. Although India have failed to take many wickets, the disciplined bowling by Indian pacers has not given an inch to the England batters, and the Ben Stokes-led team has found it tough as they are not able to play their fearless cricket. Frustrated by England's slow approach, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj hilariously trolled the England batters. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In a video posted by Sky Sports Cricket, Siraj can be heard saying, "Bazball, come on I want to see it." Earlier, Team India captain Shubman Gill had also sarcastically sledged England batters for playing slowly. "No more entertaining cricket lads. Welcome back to the boring Test cricket boys," Gill had said. Gill's comments came in the second session when Ollie Pope and Joe Root played 28 consecutive dot balls. EXCLUSIVE: Inside look at Indian cricket team's final net session at Lord's Cricket Ground Much of the pre-match talk had focused on the return of Bumrah, the world's top-ranked Test bowler, after he was rested for India's 336-run thrashing of England at Edgbaston last week that levelled the five-match series at 1-1. But it was Reddy, the fourth seamer deployed by India captain Shubman Gill, who broke through — dismissing openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in his impressive spell.
