Kanoo: Arab economies must innovate to face global challenges
Vice Treasurer and Head of the Steering Committee of the Bahrain Chamber, Waleed Kanoo, has called on Arab economies to enhance their adaptability and resilience to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape. He stressed that transitioning from traditional economic models to more diverse and innovation-driven frameworks is no longer optional, but an urgent necessity. Speaking on behalf of Bahrain Chamber Chairman Sameer Nass during the second day of the 51st Arab Labor Conference, Kanoo referenced the outcomes of the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Arab League Summit held in Bahrain. He highlighted the summit's emphasis on joint Arab action to safeguard regional security and promote deeper cooperation and integration across sectors. In alignment with this vision, Kanoo reaffirmed the Bahrain Chamber's commitment to strengthening ties among Arab private sectors and fostering robust regional economic partnerships. He underlined the pivotal role of public-private collaboration in overcoming shared economic challenges and achieving sustainable growth. Kanoo also extended his congratulations to the Arab Labor Organization on its 60th anniversary, praising its efforts in promoting social justice, sustainable development, and balanced labor relations. He described the conference as a timely platform to boost coordination across the region and unify efforts to address critical economic issues—particularly those related to sustainable development and job creation.

Bahrain Chamber pushes labour reform at Arab conference
Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber, Sameer Nass, led the Chamber's delegation at the opening session of the 51st Arab Labor Conference, currently underway with participation from member states across the region. Joining him were Waleed Kanoo, Vice-Treasurer of the Bahrain Chamber, and Board Member Sonya Janahi. The conference is addressing a range of pressing labour and development issues, including economic diversification as a driver of growth, the role of inclusive social policies in reducing poverty and advancing integration, and the significance of public-private partnerships. Challenges arising from digital transformation across Arab labour markets are also being discussed. Key agenda items include reviews of the Organization's constitutional and regulatory frameworks, with focus on trade union freedoms, women's labour affairs, and legal matters. The conference will also examine the Arab Entrepreneurship Strategy Project and oversee the formation of the Organization's governing bodies for the 2025–2027 term, including the Financial and Administrative Control Authority and other specialised committees.

KSA highlights labor reforms at Cairo conference
RIYADH: Abdullah Abuthnain, vice minister of human resources and social development for labor, led Saudi Arabia's delegation at the 51st Arab Labor Conference, taking place in Cairo until April 26. The conference brings together labor ministers and representatives of employers and workers from member states of the Arab Labor Organization, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday. Saudi Arabia's participation reflects its ongoing efforts to support joint Arab initiatives in labor and its key role in fostering trilateral dialogue among governments, employers and workers. The agenda includes discussions on social policies for economic inclusion, economic cluster strategies for sustainable development, and adapting labor laws to economic and technological changes. In his speech, Abuthnain highlighted the ministry's initiatives to develop the Saudi labor market and boost its competitiveness locally and globally, in line with national economic diversification goals. The Saudi delegation also took part in the 62nd coordination meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council's Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs, held on the sidelines of the conference. GCC labor ministers discussed shared priorities, labor market developments, and enhanced cooperation with international and regional organizations.

Bahrain Participates in the 51st Arab Labor Conference in Cairo
His Excellency Mr. Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour, led the Kingdom of Bahrain's delegation at the 51st session of the Arab Labor Conference, which officially opened today in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Bahraini delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Labour, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, and the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation. The conference agenda for this year focuses on several critical issues, foremost among them being the development of entrepreneurship across the Arab world. Discussions also include the Arab Entrepreneurship Strategy initiative, and a review of the Arab Labor Organization's Director-General's report, which emphasizes the importance of economic diversification in Arab countries to cope with global economic changes. The report urges reducing reliance on natural resources to achieve sustainable development and reinforce economic and social stability. On this occasion, Minister Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf underscored the significance of such conferences as essential platforms for addressing challenges, exploring opportunities, and sharing expertise and best practices across various fields. He commended the role of the Arab Labor Organization in promoting collaborative action that supports developmental efforts and contributes to achieving shared objectives. The Minister also highlighted Bahrain's ongoing efforts to enhance economic diversification, ensuring sustainable growth and creating promising opportunities for citizens. He noted the country's commitment to developing the business environment by introducing investment-friendly legislation and launching initiatives that support long-term economic growth. The 51st Arab Labor Conference will continue in Cairo until April 26, 2025, bringing together Arab labor ministers, employer representatives, and trade union leaders to deliberate on key labor and economic issues across the region.
