The missing jawan was identified as Sugam Choudhary, who is a part of the 60th Battalion stationed at Panthachowk. He remains untraceable despite efforts to look for him in nearby areas, India Today reported. A missing report has been filed, and efforts are being made to search for him. The turn of events comes as the security forces have ramped up anti-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam terror attack. Earlier this week, the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack – Suleman Shah – and two other terrorists were gunned down by the forces under 'Operation Mahadev' in the Dachigam area of Srinagar. Two more terrorists were neutralised after they attempted to infiltrate through the Line of Control in the Poonch sector under Operation Shiv Shakti a day later. Sugam Choudhary, serving with the 60th Battalion, disappeared during late evening hours on Thursday, July 31, from the Panthachowk facility. Security agencies have mobilized comprehensive search efforts covering surrounding areas, but the missing soldier remains unlocated despite extensive operations. Official sources confirmed that a formal missing person report has been registered with local authorities, initiating a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The incident occurs during a period of heightened security vigilance throughout Jammu and Kashmir, as forces maintain intensified anti-terrorism operations following the April 22 Pahalgam attack. The region has witnessed sustained counter-insurgency activities over recent months, with security establishments conducting regular operational missions across various sectors. Recent counter-terrorism successes have significantly impacted militant networks operating in the region. Over the past 100 days, security forces have eliminated twelve terrorists, including the alleged mastermind behind the Pahalgam assault. Intelligence reports indicate that half of the neutralized operatives were Pakistani nationals, while the remaining six were locally recruited individuals involved in recent terrorist activities. The elimination of the Pahalgam attack orchestrator occurred on July 28 during Operation Mahadev in Srinagar's Dachigam area, where three militants were killed. Subsequently, Operation ShivShakti commenced in the Poonch sector, resulting in two additional terrorist eliminations within 24 hours. Beyond kinetic operations, security agencies have apprehended numerous terror operatives and sympathizers as part of the sustained crackdown across the union territory. The comprehensive approach includes both direct action against active militants and dismantling support networks that facilitate terrorist activities. Security officials note the complexity of quantifying exact operational numbers, as multiple units conduct routine missions within their respective areas of responsibility. Security forces recover 14 IEDs, huge cache of explosives from Jharkhand's Saranda forest
RANCHI: In yet another achievement by the security forces, as many as 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a huge cache of explosives weighing more than 50 kg were recovered during a search operation in the forests of Chitpil under Toklo Police Station in Chaibasa. The IEDs were destroyed at the spot by the bomb disposal squad due to security reasons. According to police, following a tip-off, a joint operation was launched involving personnel from Jharkhand Police and the CRPF's 60th Battalion. The operation was focused on forested and hilly areas near the Chaibasa–Seraikela border, a region known for frequent Maoist activity. 'During the search operation, the security forces discovered 14 powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted with an intent to ambush patrolling units. Due to security reasons, these IEDs were safely defused by the bomb disposal squad,' stated an official communique from Chaibasa Police. In addition to that, an underground Maoist explosive storage site was found, containing 52 polybags filled with nearly 52 kgs of a white powder suspected to be ammonium nitrate — commonly used for making bombs by the Maoists, it said.
