Two Springfield residents arrested on firearm charges after police were called to Holyoke disturbance
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP)—Two Springfield residents were arrested on firearm charges last week after police were called to a disturbance on Chestnut Street in Holyoke. The Holyoke Police Department said that on Wednesday at around 9 p.m., officers were called to 348 Chestnut Street for a disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival, the person matching the description of the armed suspect, identified as 25-year-old Raygiovanni Serrano of Springfield, was standing at an open door of a vehicle. Excitement builds as the 72nd Holyoke Saint Patrick's Parade inches closer During the investigation, officers dispersed the crowd and learned that the disturbance allegedly began with two juveniles arguing over social media, and adults became involved. They say that Serrano allegedly threatened to shoot a firearm. Serrano was arrested and charged with threat to commit a crime and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Thursday and released with an electronic monitoring bracelet. The vehicle was also towed from Chestnut Street and on Thursday officers applied for and were granted a search warrant. Detectives found a semi-automatic firearm and additional ammunition. The owner of the car, 21-year-old Idaliamarie Orizal of Springfield, went to the Holyoke Police Department to get it back however, she was arrested on the following charges: Improper Storage of a Firearm Carrying a Firearm without a License Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card Police located Serrano on Bartlett Street in Springfield and was arrested for a second time for the following: Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony Improper Storage of a Firearm Carrying a Firearm without a License Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card Warrant – Probation Violation WWLP-22News, an NBC affiliate, began broadcasting in March 1953 to provide local news, network, syndicated, and local programming to western Massachusetts. Free shuttle service to Holyoke St. Patrick's weekend activities
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – To help visitors get in and out of Holyoke quickly and safely during the St. Patrick's weekend celebrations, the city of Holyoke and the Tourism Advisory Committee partnered with MGM Springfield to offer a free shuttle bus service to and from Holyoke. Visitors can park for free at the MGM casino parking garage in Springfield and catch a shuttle at MGM Way with drop-off at the Holyoke City Hall. Marshal Mania kickoff party raises funds for 72nd Holyoke Saint Patrick's Parade On March 22 and 23, the buses will run on a loop every thirty minutes from MGM and Holyoke City Hall. 11:00 a.m.: First shuttle leaves MGM Casino for Holyoke City Hall 4:30 p.m. (4:45 p.m. on Sunday): Last shuttle leaves City Hall for MGM Casino Funding for the shuttle was made possible from the Mass Gaming Mitigation Grant, the OPED team and Tourism Advisory Committee. 'It's a great partnership with MGM, and of course the amazing Parade Committee, to ensure the weekend is filled with celebration and is safe for all involved.' Two-alarm structure fire on School Street in Greenfield
GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Fire crews are working to put out a two-alarm fire on School Street in Greenfield Sunday morning. Marshal Mania kickoff party raises funds for 72nd Holyoke Saint Patrick's Parade 22News received reports of the fire just before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, as well as details regarding requests for mutual aid. All occupants have been reportedly evacuated from the building on 72 School Street, but their conditions are unknown. The Orange Fire Department was one of the crews responsible for providing mutual aid, and they reported that a combined crew of full-time and on-call personnel has been at the location of the fire for the last few hours as of approximately 10:00 a.m. Orange Fire also reported that a cat had been rescued from the fire. 22News has reached out to the Greenfield Fire Department and is currently waiting to hear back. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Holyoke YMCA awards volunteers at ‘Sneaker Peek' event
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greater Holyoke YMCA celebrated their volunteers Saturday evening during the annual 'Sneaker Peek' event. Marshal Mania kickoff party raises funds for 72nd Holyoke Saint Patrick's Parade These volunteers had the spotlight shined on them for their efforts, and the positive impact they've had on the community through the YMCA's programs and services. Two volunteers were honored this evening for their contributions to the organization and the community. Molly LePage was the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Service Award and Arthur Bergeron received the 2025 Oldershaw Community Service Award. 'For 139 years, we were founded on volunteers,' said Conor Bevan, CEO of the Greater Holyoke YMCA. 'They are our lifeline. Without volunteers, we can't exist, so it's our way to simply say thank you. We can't say thank you enough to our volunteers.' The Greater Holyoke YMCA currently serves approximately 5,000 people within the community.
