Bill Cosby and other ‘The Cosby Show' co-stars react to Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death

The 'Cosby Show' family grieves the death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner after reports of a tragic drowning in Costa Rica. It's been a tough 24 hours for Hollywood and Black TV lovers, as we grieve the loss of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Warner was first introduced to audiences as Theo Huxtable on 'The Cosby Show' and has remained Black culture's cousin Theo for decades after the show's ending. So just as fans flooded timelines with their reactions to the actor's death, Warner's TV family from the hit 80s sitcom are grieving the news of Warner's tragic drowning and ultimate passing in Costa Rica. Bill Cosby, who played Warner's television dad on 'The Cosby Show,' mourned the actor's death in an interview with ABC6. 'When the news came, it was shocking,' Cosby told the outlet. 'My thoughts went straight to his mother, who worked so hard. She was so wonderful with him…You could depend on Malcolm to learn his lines, to gather his character to come out and be ready.' The 88-year-old's representative, Andrew Wyatt, told People Magazine that the news of Warner's passing 'reminded [Cosby] of the same call he received when his son died.' Cosby's only son, Ennis William Cosby, was murdered in 1997 at 27 years old. Recalling how Ennis and Warner used to play together, Wyatt describes Warner's tragic passing as 'devastating.' Warner, who played Cosby's only son on 'The Cosby Show,' reportedly kept in contact with Cosby through the years. In a conversation with CBS News' Jericka Duncan, Cosby revealed that the last time he had spoken to the late actor was 3 months before his death, where they discussed a concert. 'He was very proud of what he had done,' Cosby said, reflecting on his last conversation with Warner. When asked what he wanted people to remember about the actor, Cosby stressed his work ethic. 'He was never afraid to go to his room and study. He knew his lines. And he was quite comfortable even with the growing pains of being a teenager,' the 88-year-old comedian noted. 'They spoke all the time,' Wyatt added, per People magazine. '[Cosby] said 'Malcolm was changing humanity.'' Cosby also revealed that he and Phylicia Rashad, who played Claire Huxtable, grieved their co-star's death together over the phone, stating that they were 'embracing each other over the phone about a dearly beloved friend.' Fellow 'The Cosby Show' co-star Geoffrey Owens, who played Warner's brother-in-law, Elvin, expressed that the star's death left him 'speechless.' 'Malcolm was a lovely man; a sweet and sensitive soul. I respected him for many reasons, including the fact that he genuinely loved the act of creation. He had the mind of an actor and the heart of a musician. He was generous, too; I did a theater project long ago and asked him to participate, and he was there for me. My heart goes out to his family,' he continued in a statement per Deadline. Raven-Symoné, who appeared in the last three seasons of the hit sitcom at age three, shared an emotional statement on Instagram. 'Words cannot describe the pain, sadness, and surprise that I feel with the recent loss of MJW. He was a big brother. He was a beacon. He was one of the most multifaceted, talented men…so gentle. He gave the best advice. He gave the best hugs, and his smile will always be a huge, bright, white smile in my head forever. I love you and I know you're watching over all of us now,' the actress said in the video statement, extending 'hugs and kisses' to Warner's daughter, wife, and mother. Reinier de Ridder: Pressure key in beating Robert Whittaker at UFC on ABC 9

ABU DHABI – Reinier de Ridder plans on bringing the fight to Robert Whittaker at UFC on ABC 9. De Ridder (20-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) meets former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (26-8 MMA, 17-6 UFC) in the July 26 main event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. De Ridder won't put too much stock into Whittaker's quick submission loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308. Instead, he expects the version who blasted Ikram Aliskerov for a first-round knockout at UFC on ABC 6. "He's been at the top for so long. We've seen him win spectacularly. We've seen him lose spectacularly," De Ridder told MMA Junkie of Whittaker. "The Khamzat fight I don't put too much in because it was clear that that wasn't a great choke. The positioning wasn't perfect, the positioning of his arms wasn't perfect. I just think he got lucky there. That injury was already in place, and he was able to take advantage of that. "But a little while before that against Ikram (Aliskerov), he did amazing. Robert did very well, and it showed us how dangerous he still is. It's a great warning for me that I cannot go into the fight like Ikram did. I cannot give him space. I cannot give him time to look and see, because he has real knockout power, and very nice, clean, straight shots. I've got to be very mindful of that." De Ridder was able to walk down previously undefeated Bo Nickal, wear him out, and finish him at UFC on ESPN 67. He plans on doing the same to Whittaker. "The pressure is the most important thing for me," De Ridder said. "I've got to put pressure on him. I've got to bring the heat early because I cannot let him move. I cannot let him see what's happening. I cannot let him play. He likes to bounce. He likes to look, and I'm sure I'm going to take him down. It's what I like the most, and I have to put him on his ass at least once. But we'll see if I can do damage meanwhile before."

Teen dies after getting sucked into meat grinder at burrito factory

A teenage sanitation worker at a California factory making popular frozen burritos was sucked into a meat grinder and killed. The 19-year-old was cleaning an industrial food processor at Tina's Burritos factory in Vernon when the machine started up unexpectedly, according to police. Other employees heard the victim shouting for help and tried to turn off the grinder, but could not get it to stop, said Vernon Police Department Sgt Daniel Onopa. Officers responded to a call for an injured worker at a kitchen shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday. By the time they got to the scene, the worker had died, Onopa said. 'Our thoughts are with the family, friends and coworkers affected by this tragedy,' Onopa told ABC 6. Fellow workers gathered in a seating section outside the factory after the tragic incident and appeared distraught. The victim's identity was not immediately released. No foul play is suspected and it seemed to be an accident, Onopa said. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which works to protect workers in the state, was set to begin investigation on Monday. Vernon is about five miles south of downtown Los Angeles. Tina's Burritos' website states that it produces 'America's Best Single-Serve Frozen Burritos' and that 694 of them are heated up somewhere in the US every minute. More Trending 'Tina's began in Los Angeles with a handful of people, a kitchen, and a belief: 'Everyone should be able to afford a great tasting burrito'. That's never changed. We've grown – but not to go corporate,' states its site. 'We grew so we could feed more people. You can taste it in every bite. That stubborn simplicity? That's Tina's.' The company has not responded to a request for comment from Metro. The victim's death comes just a couple weeks after a 38-year-old factory worker got stuck in an industrial oven at a Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation cereal plant in Perryville, Missouri, and died. Beloved Restaurant Chain Back After Almost Disappearing 3 Decades Ago

In its heyday, the Roy Rogers chain of restaurants had almost 600 locations across the U.S. Now the chain is regaining a foothold it once lost. Roy Rogers Restaurants "is officially opening its newest location in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on June 25," a press release from the company says. "This restaurant is the chain's first return to the Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia markets since the 1990s, marking an exciting new era for the brand." The Roy Rogers chain of restaurants "were popular in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. There were many of these restaurants in the South Jersey area," the release, posted to Business Wire, says. "The first Roy Rogers opened in 1968 in Falls Church, Virginia. Decades ago there was one in Willingboro at the old Willingboro Plaza, which is now the Willingboro Town Center." The company added: "The chain, primarily located in the Northeast of the U.S., now has approximately 40 locations in five states, including 22 in Maryland and eight in Virginia, but at its height had more than 600 locations." ABC 6 reported that many customers regard the chain in a nostalgic sense. Some customers were so excited that they arrived shortly after midnight for the 10 a.m. opening, the television station reported. The chain advertised a "free food for a year deal" for the first 50 customers, ABC 6 reported. The winners will receive "one regular combo per week for a year in their mobile app," the television station reported. The new restaurant is located at 614 Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill, NJ. 'The feedback from the Cherry Hill community since we announced this new restaurant has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have been working hard to make this opening a grand success,' said Jim Plamondon, co-president of Roy Rogers Restaurants, in the release. 'We are excited to make this long-anticipated return, and Cherry Hill allows us to serve a growing, diverse community and introduce a new generation to the quality and variety that makes Roy Rogers a cut above.'Beloved Restaurant Chain Back After Almost Disappearing 3 Decades Ago first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 26, 2025
