Kuwait U-17 dream begins in Group F as Philippines drawn into tough group
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7: Kuwait has been placed in Group F of the 2026 AFC U-17 Championship qualifiers alongside host nation Thailand, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, and the Maldives. The qualifiers will take place in a single-stage round-robin format from November 22 to 30, 2025, with all matches hosted by Thailand. The draw for the qualifiers was conducted at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This will be the 21st edition of the AFC U-17 Championship qualifiers, featuring 38 participating teams divided into seven groups—three groups with six teams and four groups with five teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the final tournament, where they will join nine teams that have already secured automatic qualification by earning spots in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. These teams are: Qatar, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The group allocations are as follows: Group A: China (host), Bangladesh, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka Group B: Yemen, Laos, Kyrgyzstan (host), Cambodia, Guam, Pakistan Group C: Vietnam (host), Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Northern Mariana Islands, Macau Group D: India (host), Iran, Palestine, Taiwan, Lebanon Group E: Jordan (host), Australia, Iraq, Philippines, Bhutan Group F (Group 6): Thailand (host), Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Maldives, Blues Group G: Myanmar (host), Oman, Afghanistan, Syria, Nepal Teams were seeded into six levels based on a points system calculated from their performances in the previous three editions of the tournament. The final tournament will be held in Saudi Arabia from May 7 to 24, 2026.

Yemeni junior football team win Afghanistan in AFC
Sana'a - Saba: The national junior football team began its journey in the AFC U-17 Championship finals with a valuable 2-0 victory over Afghanistan in the first round of Group B. The team's goals were scored by Mohammed Noman in the 24th minute and Mohammed Al-Jarash in the 26th minute from a penalty kick. The national team will play its second match next Monday against Indonesia, and its final group match will be against South Korea on Thursday. Sixteen teams are participating in the finals, divided into four groups. The first group includes Uzbekistan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and China. The second group includes Australia, Vietnam, Japan, and the UAE. The third group includes Yemen, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and South Korea. Saudi Arabia to host AFC U-17 Championship
RIYADH, March 4: Saudi Arabia is set to host the AFC U-17 Championship from April 3 to 20, featuring 16 teams competing in the cities of Jeddah and Taif. This edition of the tournament introduces a new format, with the top eight teams earning qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which Qatar will host from November 5 to 27, 2025. The upcoming World Cup will make history as the first to feature 48 teams. The draw, held last January, placed host nation Saudi Arabia at the top of Group 1 alongside Uzbekistan, Thailand, and China. Group 2 consists of Japan, Australia, Vietnam, and the UAE, while Group 3 features South Korea, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Indonesia. Group 4 includes Iran, Tajikistan, Oman, and North Korea. Saudi Football Federation President Yasser bin Hassan Al-Misehal welcomed the participating teams, expressing his hopes for a competitive tournament that reflects the strength of Asian football. Al-Misehal emphasized that Saudi Arabia's hosting of the AFC U-17 Championship is part of its broader commitment to staging major sporting events. He credited the Kingdom's leadership for its support of the sports sector, particularly football, and praised the Ministry of Sports for its efforts in ensuring the success of such prestigious tournaments.
