India to play Qatar, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam in AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers
New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): The India U23 men's national team has been drawn in Group H of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, after a draw ceremony was conducted at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Alongside India Qatar, Bahrain, and Brunei Darussalam are in Group H. Qatar, the highest-seeded team among the four, will host Group H, with the matches slated to be played between September 1 to 9, as per the AIFF official website. A total of 44 teams were divided into 11 groups of four each. The group winners and the four best runners-up, alongside hosts Saudi Arabia, will complete the cast of 16 teams for the seventh edition of the AFC U23 Asian Cup, which will take place in January 2026. The seedings for the draw were based on a points system derived from the teams' final rankings across the previous three editions of the tournament. India were placed in Pot 3. India had earlier appointed Naushad Moosa as the head coach of their U23 national team. Moosa takes charge of the U23s on June 1, when the Blue Colts assemble in Kolkata for a training camp, before flying off to Tajikistan to play two exposure friendly matches against Tajikistan (June 18) and the Kyrgyz Republic (June 21). The India U23s will utilise all the FIFA International windows to set camp and play exposure friendlies to prepare for the AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. Forty-four teams were divided into eleven groups of four sides each, with the winner of each group and the four best runners-up sides earning the right to feature in the AFC U23 Asian Cup, slated to be held in Saudi Arabia in January 2026. India were placed in Pot 3 in the seeding that hinged on the points system derived from the nations' final rankings over the past three iterations of the tournament. India U23 Squad Gears Up For Tajikistan Friendlies As Road To Asian Games 2026 Begins
India U23 men's national team head coach Naushad Moosa on Thursday named a 29-member probable squad for the friendly matches in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, next month. The India U23 side will face the Tajikistan U23 and Kyrgyzstan U23 teams in two matches on June 18 and 21, respectively, as part of the federation's long-term plans to smooth a pathway to the senior national team. The team will set camp in Kolkata on June 1, where they will train before setting off for Dushanbe on June 16. As part of the long-term plans for the India U23s, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has lined up camps and exposure friendly matches for the team during the FIFA International Windows to prepare for AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, to be held later this year, and the Asian Games, to be held in Japan in 2026. The draw for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers will be held on May 29 at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Moosa was appointed the head coach of the India U-23 men's national team on May 20. 'The June games are very important in our journey toward the Asian Games and the AFC U23 Asian Cup. This is an opportunity to assess player responses under pressure, improve our tactics, and build stronger bonds within the team. Our goal is to be fully prepared for these major tournaments by testing ourselves against strong opposition,' he had said.
