UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy Cools Attacks On BBC, Praising 'Big Strides' In Gripping Crises

UK culture secretary Lisa Nandy has reduced the temperature of her attacks on the BBC after the publication of two damning reports into misconduct allegations against Gregg Wallace and editorial failings on documentary, Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone. Nandy has been highly critical of the BBC in a series of unusual interventions this month, including raising concerns about the leadership of director-general Tim Davie and questioning why no one had been fired over the How to Survive a Warzone debacle. More from Deadline BBC Says Individuals Were Present At Glastonbury Who Had "Authority" To Cut Bob Vylan Feed 'A Good Girl's Guide To Murder' Sets Season 2 Cast; First Look At Emma Myers' Return BBC Review Finds 'Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone' Broke Accuracy Rule In "Serious" Editorial Failure In comments on Monday, Nandy said: 'My job is to make sure that we uphold the highest standards and that the public and parliament can have confidence in the BBC. 'I think, given the recent events, that has been called into question, but the BBC in recent weeks has made big strides to try to reset that relationship with the public, and show that they have grip on the very very serious issues.' Her change of tone follows Deadline reporting on concerns about the culture secretary jeopardizing the BBC's independence by personally attacking Davie and repeatedly bypassing the corporation's governance conventions. Nandy said it is 'not for the government to say who should and shouldn't work at the BBC,' but added that the broadcaster was right to acknowledge 'catastrophic failures' in recent weeks, not least live-streaming Glastonbury act Bob Vylan chanting 'death to the IDF.' In a breathless day, the BBC published an internal report concluding that Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone committed a 'serious' breach of editorial rules by failing to declare that it was narrated by the child of a Hamas minister. Meanwhile, an independent report substantiated 45 misconduct allegations against former MasterChef host Wallace. Following the Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone report, media regulator Ofcom has launched its own investigation into the documentary, produced by Hoyo Films. 'Having examined the BBC's findings, we are launching an investigation under our rule which states that factual programmes must not materially mislead the audience,' a spokesperson said. Danny Cohen, the BBC's former television chief, suggested that an editorial leader should be fired over the documentary. 'The serious journalistic failings of this documentary have severely damaged public trust in the BBC. This is not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of systemic bias in the BBC's coverage of the war,' he said. 'The BBC's failure to recognise this and take real action is a serious leadership failure. This looks like a classic case of 'deputy heads must roll' and that is nowhere near good enough. As head of news Deborah Turness has questions to answer.' Crime thriller that's ‘different from the rest' finally streaming in the UK

You can now catch up with the first three episodes of a crime thriller that viewers have already praised as different to your typical copper fare. Sight Unseen dropped across the pond last year and now finally has a streaming home in the UK, with episodes releasing weekly on Paramount Plus. With ten episodes set to drop between now and August, the show follows Vancouver homicide detective Tess Avery (Dolly Lewis) who is forced to quit her job when an accident nearly kills her partner and leaves her clinically blind. Everything changes for Tess when she's put in touch with Sunny Patel (Agam Darshi), a volunteer on a visual assistance app. Sunny is based thousands of miles away but remotely provides Tess with visual descriptions of what's happening around her via a lapel camera. With the help of Sunny down the line, Tess begins to return to her crime-solving line of work. What unfolds is a unique approach to the police procedural. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video But little does Tess know, Sunny is reckoning with her own health diagnosis, with a case of agoraphobia that means she only leaves the house vicariously through those she helps through work. The show was inspired by co-showrunner Kat Troubetzkoy, who made Sight Unseen alongside her half-sister Niko, and her own experience of sight loss. After a party in her twenties, Troubetzkoy woke up with half her vision gone due to retinal detachment. She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'Without any warning, as a vain 20-something I was blind. I was bandaged and it took about three weeks for my vision to slowly return. I had to be guided by a family member.' That experience and the 20-plus laser surgeries she underwent in the aftermath of it left Troubetzkoy aware of 'seeing and our emphasis on what things look like', which led to Sight Unseen. The Devil's Leap . The four-episode show follows climbing guide Paul (Philippe Bas) and his antagonistic teenage daughter Sara (Maïra Schmitt) on a trek which pits them against killers. . BBC thriller that fans hailed 'perfect' soars up Netflix top 10 chart

If this week showed anything, it's that sometimes summer is best seen and not felt. Who needs to feel their body find the internal temperature of an oven, when you can just watch people in a TV show experience it instead? Despite what the title of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder suggests, it has more than just the thrills of a murder mystery (although it does still have that). The BBC show turned Netflix sleeper hit has the bottled up feel of summer to boot. The six-parter is based on Holly Jackson's YA trilogy of the same name, which was so popular among the BookTokkers that it led to last year's adaptation. Starring Wednesday's Emma Myers with a very different look to her chipper Enid, the detective on the case here is the dogged (and sometimes dodgy-accented) Pip Fitz-Amobi. In the summer holidays before entering her last year of school, Pip decides to use her A-Level extended project to investigate an unsolved case in the rural town of Little Kilton: the disappearance of schoolmate Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies) five years ago. But did he really? Pip enlists his younger brother Ravi (Zain Iqbal) to help find out, because every detective needs a sidekick (and love interest). To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The show first aired on the BBC, and can still be watched on iPlayer, but was made available in the US on Netflix, and has now been added to the platform in the UK too – where it's entered the streamer's list of top 10 TV shows. Better yet for those who are only just finding A Good Girl's Guide to Murder now, the show is filming six new episodes for a second season. When the BBC and Netflix co-production renewal was announced, author Holly Jackson said she was 'beyond thrilled' to continue Pip's story and shared that she will be part of the writers' room for the second season. Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take… On the vibes front this has it all: a sleepy English town you'll want to move to, a banging soundtrack (Wet Leg, AWOLNATION) and boundless summer activities. Yes, there's the murder-suicide conspiracy bubbling away, but it's a bit too silly to be taken overly seriously. The cast of mostly unknown young'uns are balanced out with the acting experience of their older counterparts: Anna Maxwell Martin, Gary Beadle and Mathew Baynton. If you can suspend your belief for this suspended summer, you'll come away happy you did. The first season has a 83% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, after viewers wrote about planning to watch the series 'six times' because it's 'perfect'. More Trending Account Chicken F raved: 'This lived up to, if not, surpassed my expectations. It hasn't even been out for a week and I've already watched the series through six times. 'I highly recommend this series, it is the perfect Mystery/Thriller to watch if you've got a spare weekend.' Echoing their sentiment, Sayan C enthused: 'The series is excellent and everything was nailed to perfection. THE has perfect suspense and thrill I would 100% recommend to binge this series.' A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Season 2: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 2, 2025, 19:30 IST Last updated July 2, 2025, 12:27 IST Alright, let's talk about A Good Girl's Guide to Murder ! After that wild first season, fans are practically begging for more of Pip Fitz-Amobi's detective antics. Holly Jackson's YA mystery hit turned TV show had us all hooked, and now that Season 2 is officially a go, we've rounded up everything we know so far. From when it might drop to who's coming back and what's next for Pip, here's the scoop—straight from the latest buzz. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Season 2 Potential Release Date So, when can we binge Season 2? No exact date yet, but we've got some hints. Netflix and the BBC gave the green light for Season 2 back on November 20, 2024, and filming started in the UK on April 13, 2025. Word is, production will take about three months to wrap. With editing, music, and all that post-production stuff, late 2025 feels like a stretch. We are betting we'll see it in early to mid-2026, maybe spring or summer. Some folks on X are guessing around April or May, but nothing's set in stone. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Season 2 Expected Cast The cast is where this show shines, and Season 2 is bringing back the faves. Here's who we expect to see: Emma Myers as Pip Fitz-Amobi : Our girl Pip is back, ready to dig into another mystery. Emma's performance is chef's kiss , and she's stoked to keep playing the teen sleuth. Zain Iqbal as Ravi Singh: Ravi, Pip's ride-or-die and total heartthrob, is returning too. Their chemistry? Off the charts. I'm dying to see where their story goes. We'll likely see more of Pip's crew, like: Asha Banks as Cara Ward : Pip's BFF who keeps things real. Yali Topol Margalith as Lauren Gibson : Part of the friend squad, always adding some spice. Jude Morgan-Collie as Connor Reynolds : With his brother's storyline in Season 2, he might get more screen time. Raiko Gohara as Zach Chen : Another pal who's probably sticking around. Anna Maxwell Martin and Gary Beadle as Leanne and Victor Amobi : Fingers crossed Pip's parents are back, but no confirmation yet. Mathew Baynton as Elliot Ward: He's locked up, so maybe a cameo in a jail scene? Since Season 2 is a new mystery, expect some fresh faces. No word on new cast members yet, but with filming rolling, we should hear soon. The Andie Bell case is done, so India Lillie Davies (Andie) and Rahul Pattni (Sal Singh) might only pop up in flashbacks, if at all. What's the Plot? No Spoilers, Promise! Season 2 will adapt Good Girl, Bad Blood , the second book in Holly Jackson's trilogy. The story picks up after Pip solves the Andie Bell murder case, which rocked her small town of Little Kilton. Now grappling with the fallout of her actions, Pip is determined to step back from sleuthing. But when Connor's brother, Jamie Reynolds, a key witness in Max Hastings' trial, mysteriously disappears, Pip is pulled back into the fray.
