Mpumalanga man arrested for murder of woman over goat sale
The suspect faces charges of murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice. A 41-year-old Mpumalanga man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 46-year-old woman and burying her body in a shallow grave in Dirkiesdorp near Piet Retief. The man, who allegedly bought a goat belonging to the deceased from a herdsman, faces charges of murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice. Deceased never returned home South African Police Service (Saps) regional spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the woman left her home at 6am on 3 May with the intention of confronting the suspect after she had questioned the herdsman about her missing goat the previous day. The women never returned home. Her family reported her missing on 4 May, and police investigations led them to the suspect's home. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect encountered the victim before she reached his home. He allegedly murdered her and buried her in a shallow grave,' Ndubane said. He later destroyed the victim's cellphone by burning it. The suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday, pointed out the location of the shallow grave where the victim's body was recovered. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues, Ndubane said. She said the herdsman, who sold him the goat, was also arrested but later released without charges. 'Shock and disappointment' 'The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed his shock and disappointment over the suspect's actions, especially as the country continues to face a crisis of gender-based violence against women and children,' Ndubane said. The suspect was due to appear in the Piet Retief Magistrate's Court today, but police have not yet given an update on the outcome of the sitting. Picture: Gallo Images/Darren Stewart The murder case involving five men accused of killing rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane has been postponed to next month. Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimane, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Mhlaliseni Mkhwanazi appeared at the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) High Court in Durban on Thursday for a pre-trial conference. The case was transferred from the Durban Magistrate's Court in February, following the defence's receipt of the indictment. Two more suspects, Siyabonga Ndimande and Malusi Ndimande, are in custody in eSwatini, awaiting extradition to South Africa. AKA-Tibz murder case postponed During proceedings, state prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba informed Judge Jacqueline Henriques that the five accused have appointed new legal counsel. The men will now be represented by Advocate Simphiwe Cyril Mlotshwa. Gcaba also confirmed the appointment of Sibusiso Dlamini as the instructing attorney. 'My understanding is that Advocate Mlotshwa will be instructed for all five,' the prosecutor said. He explained that the attorneys were not present in court because they were attending the extradition appeal in eSwatini, where the Ndimande brothers are challenging a ruling that approved their return to South Africa. 'They are not here today because they are also attending to the extradition appeal in the Swaziland Supreme Court.' Gcaba requested that the pre-trial conference be postponed to 12 June, a date that the defence and Gcaba mutually agreed upon. 'The state has already disclosed the contents of the dockets,' he added. The judge granted the postponement, and the accused will remain in custody. Accused's charges The five men are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of unlicensed ammunition, all in connection with the deaths of Forbes and Motsoane.
