Akshay Tritiya boosts sales of precious valuables in Kolhapur
1 2 3 4 Kolhapur : Akshay Tritiya was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the city on Wednesday, boosting sales in real estate , gold, automobiles and electronics. The demand for mangoes also surged, with around 20,000 boxes sold at APMC Market in just two days. Mango grower Rohan Salvi said the produce was affected because of unseasonal rainfall this year. "Therefore, mango prices are still on a higher side. A dozen of mangoes are selling for Rs 400, whereas a dozen of Alphonso mangoes are retailing for Rs 500." Businesses lured customers with discounts and zero-down-payment schemes to capitalise on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. Tushar Gaikwad, the owner of a cellphone shop, said, "We offered several discounts and a 0% finance scheme, which received a good response till Wednesday evening." Jeweller Sayyam Rathore said customer response for buying gold jewellery this year has been relatively low compared to last year owing to prices surpassing Rs 1 lakh per 10 gram. "However, the upcoming wedding season has sparked interest in gold purchases as people look to invest in the precious metal," he said. The Veershaiv Lingayat community celebrated Mahatma Basweshwar Jayanti at Chitradurga Math in Kolhapur. Several cultural programmes and a blood donation camp were held throughout the day, besides a colourful procession rally in the evening.
