OIC Urges Stronger Global Cooperation to Support Landlocked Developing Countries
Mohamed Mandour Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in his intervention today at the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), which is taking place in Awaza, Turkmenistan, highlighted the efforts of the OIC towards developing transport infrastructure in Member States and enhancing connectivity among them. He also emphasized that OIC's long-term goal is the establishment of integrated multimodal transport systems in the OIC countries and deepening their economic integration. He further noted that the OIC-wide initiatives fully complement the goals of the international community to address the challenges and opportunities of the LLDCs. Speaking on the Awaza Program of Action (APoA) for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) for the Decade 2024–2034, Dr. Sengendo emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation between landlocked and transit countries as well as international partners. He underscored that removing barriers to the free movement of people, goods, and services, would also be essential for promoting inclusive regional and global connectivity. The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) opened in Awaza, Turkmenistan, on 5th August 2025, and continues until 8th August 2025. Qatar continues to be an effective partner for landlocked developing countries: Al Misnad
Ashgabat The State of Qatar has affirmed that it will continue to play its role as an effective strategic partner in confronting challenges and responding to global needs. Qatar has spared no effort in supporting the aspirations of landlocked developing countries and assisting them in their journey toward achieving sustainable development, under the wise directives of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which embody a solid approach to strengthening cooperation and partnership with the international community. This came in the State of Qatar's statement, delivered by Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, at the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), held in Awaza, Turkmenistan, under the theme "Driving Progress through Partnerships." Al Misnad expressed the State of Qatar's welcome to the adoption of the Awaza Program of Action (APoA) 2024-2034, recognizing the structural challenges facing landlocked developing countries, particularly those related to transportation, transit, and logistics, which limit their ability to achieve regional integration and integrate into the global economy. She added that, in affirmation of its concern for the situation of the least developed countries (LDCs), including the LLDCs, the State of Qatar is proud of hosting the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries in March 2023, and to continue its pioneering role in implementing the Doha Program of Action (DPoA) 2022-2031. She indicated that in this context, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in cooperation with the آ Office of the United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States آ (UN-OHRLLS), is working to finance two projects within the program's outputs, which are concerned with enhancing food security and supporting countries' resilience and crisis-response capabilities. The State of Qatar is also preparing to host the high-level meeting for the mid-term review of the Doha Program of Action in 2027, to follow up on progress and enhance the implementation of commitments until 2031. She highlighted that the State of Qatar is a major investor in the United Nations Development Program Accelerator Labs Network project. She added that last year, it also launched its initiative to swap debt for investment in education, in partnership with the World Bank, based on its belief that education is a fundamental pillar of renaissance and progress. The Minister of State for International Cooperation also noted the State of Qatar's readiness to host the Second World Summit for Social Development, affirming its unwavering commitment to social development issues and in line with its vision of placing people at the center of development and strengthening international partnerships toward building more just, prosperous, and sustainable societies. In this context, she said that the international community affirmed, through the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, known as the Sevilla Commitment, its commitment to continuing to implement the Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries and the Program of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries (2024-2034). Al Misnad pointed out that the document called for strengthening efforts to achieve sustainable development and accelerating the integration of landlocked developing countries, least developed countries, and small island developing states into the international trading system by improving infrastructure, especially digital infrastructure, developing statistical systems, removing trade barriers, expanding partnerships, and facilitating access to concessional financing. She reiterated the State of Qatar's full commitment to working with all partners at various levels to implement the Awaza Program of Action and to continue its support for landlocked developing countries in their quest to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for their people.

Al Misnad attends UN roundtable on LLDCs
QNA Awaza Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad on Wednesday participated in the High-Level Thematic Round Table 2, held as part of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), currently taking place in the city of Awaza, Turkmenistan. The conference aims to review progress in implementing the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA) for LLDCs -- a roadmap to enhance the ability of landlocked developing countries to integrate into the global economy through infrastructure development, trade facilitation, investment stimulation, and the strengthening of institutional and digital capabilities. Qatar's participation in the event reflects its commitment to supporting international efforts to promote sustainable development and reaffirms its dedication to assisting landlocked developing countries that face unique challenges due to their geographical location, particularly in the areas of transportation, logistics, and regional integration.

UAE backs global initiatives toboost sustainable development
Suhail Bin Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Turkmenistan, led the UAE delegation participating in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which opened on August 5th in Awaza, Turkmenistan, and runs until 8th August. Al Mazrouei affirmed that the United Arab Emirates' participation in the conference is part of its established approach in supporting global development efforts. He emphasised that the UAE's involvement reflects its commitment to backing international initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development, achieving regional economic integration, and providing advanced infrastructure that enables countries to overcome geographical challenges and bring prosperity to their peoples. He expressed hope that the conference would contribute to building effective partnerships, the exchange of expertise, and the opening of new horizons for investment and shared growth. The UN conference, which is held once every ten years, aims to highlight the development challenges faced by Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), home to approximately 570 million people. It explores ways to enhance international partnerships, encourage smart investments, facilitate free movement of transport, and establish more flexible and efficient trade corridors. The four-day conference will discuss the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA) for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) for the Decade 2024-2034, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 24th December 2024. In order to drive transformative growth, the PoA is built around five interlinked priority areas that together address the challenges LLDCs face and create opportunities for sustainable development: Structural Transformation and Science, Technology, and Innovation; Trade, Trade Facilitation, and Regional Integration; Transit, Transport, and Connectivity; Enhancing Adaptive Capacity, Strengthening Resilience, and Reducing Vulnerability and Implementation, Follow-Up, and Monitoring. On the sidelines of the conference, Al Mazrouei held a series of bilateral meetings with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan; and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye. The meetings discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and transportation, to serve mutual interests. Meanwhile in February, 2025, Suhail Bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Republic of Indonesia, led a high-level delegation on an official visit to Indonesia from January 29 to February 1. During the visit, the minister held meetings with senior Indonesian officials to explore ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, aiming to advance relations to a level that reflects the aspirations of the leadership of both friendly nations. Accompanying Al Mazrouei during the visit was Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia and the non-resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of East Timor, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). At the beginning of the visit, Al Mazrouei was received by Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, at his residence in Jakarta. The meeting discussed mechanisms to further strengthen joint cooperation in various fields, as the UAE-Indonesian relations have evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership across political, economic, investment, trade, and cultural sectors. For his part, the Indonesian President expressed his pleasure in welcoming the UAE delegation and emphasised Indonesia's interest in further developing relations with the UAE in areas that serve the mutual interests of both nations. It was agreed by both sides to continue cementing bilateral cooperation and accelerating the finalisation of bilateral agreements and joint ventures in preparation for their approval between the two countries. During the visit, Al Mazrouei and the accompanying delegation also met with several Indonesian ministers and officials, including Agus Harimurti, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development; Sugiono, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sri Mulyani, Minister of Finance; Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Head of the Housing Task Force; Rosan Roeslani Minister of Investment; and Ridha Wirakusumah, the Chief Executive Officer at Indonesia Investment Authority, in addition to other senior officials. These meetings discussed the progress of joint investment projects and initiatives, as well as additional opportunities in sectors of mutual interest. The UAE minister also chaired the third UAE-Indonesia roundtable meeting, while Sugiuno, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the Indonesian side. The meeting was organised by the UAE Embassy in Jakarta at the Raffles Hotel and was attended by ministers, deputy ministers, CEOs, and representatives from several Emirati and Indonesian companies, including Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines, Abu Dhabi Ports, Tabreed, Masdar, Mubadala, Borouge, ADNOC, Edge, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Emirates Global Aluminium, IFFCO, Alef Education, and Elsewedy Electric. The discussions focused on investment and economic cooperation in priority sectors for both countries, including conventional and renewable energy, aviation, ports and logistics, infrastructure, mining, cooling technology, strategic industries, defense, food security, construction and housing, banking, and education. The participants also addressed challenges faced by UAE companies investing in Indonesia and explored solutions to facilitate the smooth implementation of joint projects and initiatives. At the conclusion of the visit, Al Mazrouei and the accompanying delegation met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the National Economic Council of Indonesia; Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Minister for Food; and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia; along with a number of other high-ranking officials.
