Temperatures in UAE set to drop after days of record heat
Temperatures in the UAE will begin to drop over the next five days, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said, after the country marked a heat record for the month of May. According to NCM, the country recorded 51.6 degree Celsius in some parts over the weekend, marking the highest temperature for May in 22 years. Speaking to ARN News, Esra Al Naqpi, NCM weather forecaster, said it's usually in June and July that the country records highs of 50 degree Celsius, and not in May. She explained that the unusual rise in temperature is driven by "southerly winds" and a "warm air mass over the country". Al Naqbi said the temperatures will drop over the coming days, with no forecast for rain.

UAE-Pakistan flights face disruptions for second day
UAE airlines have cancelled some flights to Pakistan on Thursday after the country shut down operations at its major airports, including Karachi, Lahore and Sialkot. It comes a day after flight services to Pakistan were impacted after India hit multiple targets in Pakistan linked to the tourist killings in Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement sent to ARN News, Etihad Airways said flights between Abu Dhabi and Lahore, which were rescheduled to take-off a day after Wednesday's disruptions, have been cancelled. "Etihad Airways flights EY288 and EY289 between Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE), which were originally scheduled to depart on 07 May and subsequently delayed, have now been cancelled due to the ongoing closure of Pakistani airspace," the airline said in its statement. The airline said it will continue to monitor the "evolving situation" and warned travellers of "further changes or disruption" to its Pakistan services. Emirates said it is suspending all flights to Pakistan's Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Peshawar and Karachi until May 10. In an update on its official website, the airline said it's "due to the ongoing uncertainly surrounding access to the country's airspace and airports". The Dubai carrier said travellers "booked on connecting flights to Pakistan will not be accepted to travel until further notice". Dubai low-cost carrier, flydubai, also confirmed "temporary suspension of flights between Dubai and Karachi" on Thursday. In a statement, the airline said flights to and from Islamabad and Lahore have also been cancelled. "Flights FZ 354 from Islamabad International Airport (ISB), FZ 360 from Lahore International Airport (LHE) and FZ 338 from Sialkot Airport (SKT) on 08 May were cancelled," a spokesperson for the airline said. Meanwhile, flydubai services to Faisalabad, Multan, Quetta and Sialkot remain unaffected.

UAE airlines temporarily cancel some flights to Pakistan
Some flights from the UAE to Pakistan have been cancelled following cross-border clashes with India. In a statement sent to ARN News, Etihad Airways said flights to and from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad have been cancelled on Wednesday a day after three flights were forced to return to the capital. "Some flights may be rerouted to avoid restricted zones, potentially resulting in extended flight times," the UAE national carrier added. Emirates Airline also confirmed in a statement that Dubai flights to and from Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar have been cancelled for a second day on Wednesday. The carrier added that passengers booked on connecting flights to these destinations also will be impacted "until further notice". Meanwhile, flydubai said flights to Karachi are operating to schedule on Wednesday and have resumed operations to Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan and Sialkot. The airlines stated they are closely monitoring the situation and advised travellers to check for updates on its official websites. ARN has reached out to flydubai for updates. Qatar Airways have also announced the suspension of services to Pakistan on its social media platforms, citing the closure of airspace. The airspace closure comes after India reportedly launched airstrikes on targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir earlier this week. Pakistan claims to have responded by downing several Indian fighter jets and carrying out its own retaliatory strikes.
