The return on investment for a Cooper City man playing a $50 Florida Lottery scratch-off game turned out to be one of the $1 million second prizes. Lottery ticket worth $1 million sold at Publix in Florida. Here's where

A grocery shopper decided to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during a trip to a Publix in Florida — and won a life-changing prize. The St. Augustine lottery player hit a $1 million win with a ticket in the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game, the Florida Lottery announced April 23. William Evans bought his $50 lucky ticket at the Publix Super Market at Hammock Beach Centre in Palm Coast, lottery officials said. The St. Johns County man claimed his windfall at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee as a lump sum of $640,000. No more top prizes remain in the game, but the 52-year-old still beat the 1-in-185,709 odds to win one of 234 second-tier prizes, Florida Lottery records show. The Publix store won as well, receiving a $2,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket, officials said. Palm Coast is about a 60-mile drive southeast from Jacksonville on Florida's Atlantic Coast.

Dropping $50 on a Florida Lottery scratch-off game turned out to be a high risk-high reward play for a customer at a Homestead gas station. South Miami-Dade's Hector Anaya, Jr., 27, got a big return on his chancy investment at the RaceTrac at 3310 NE Eighth St. when he won one of the one-time $1 million second prizes in the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game. When Anaya claimed his prize at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee, he chose the one-time, lump sum payment of $640,000.
