Patricia Ryan won a $1 million prize in the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game, the Florida Lottery announced July 9. She bought her lucky ticket at a Winn-Dixie store at 4870 North Kings Highway in Fort Pierce.
The Vero Beach woman turned her $50 ticket into a second-tier prize in the scratch-off game that's been running since February 2023, beating the 1-in-185,709 odds to win $1 million, lottery records show.
Ryan made the trip up to Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to claim her prize as a $640,000 lump sum, according to lottery officials.
Fort Pierce is the seat of St. Lucie County, about a 70-mile drive north from West Palm Beach.

A staggering eight pubs a week shut their doors for good across the UK over the first half of the year amid rising tax and labour costs, according to shock new figures. Industry bosses said it is 'heartbreaking' and highlighted the need for supportive tax measures from the Treasury in the autumn budget. Official Government statistics show 209 pubs were demolished or converted for other uses over the six months to June. The data, which was analysed by commercial real estate specialists at Ryan, shows the overall number of pubs in England and Wales, including those vacant and being offered to let, fell to 38,780. It means 2,283 pubs have vanished from communities across England and Wales forever since the start of 2020. Valuation Office Agency data shows many of these have been demolished or converted into homes, offices or other uses such as day nurseries. The closures come amid an intensifying backdrop for UK pubs, which were impacted by increases to the national minimum wage, national insurance payments and business rates payments. In April, the national living wage rose by 6.7% to £12.21 an hour for workers aged 21 and older. At the same time, the Government increased the rate of employer national insurance contributions from 13.8% to 15% and also lowered the threshold at which firms would pay the tax. Many pubs were also hit by changes to discounts on business rates, the property tax affecting high street businesses. Hospitality businesses received a 60% discount on their business rates bills up to a cap of £110,000 but saw this cut to only 25% in April. Industry bosses had warned the jump in taxes particularly would lead to an acceleration in pub closures. Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said the Government needs to act quickly to save pubs across the country. She said: 'It's absolutely heartbreaking and there is a direct link between pubs closing for good and the huge jump in costs they have just endured. Pubs and brewers are important employers, drivers of economic growth, but are also really valuable to local communities across the country and have real social value. 'This is a really sad pattern, and unfortunately a lot of these pubs never come back. The Government needs to act at the budget, with major reforms to business rates and beer duty.' Alex Probyn, practice leader of property tax at Ryan, warned the squeeze on the pub trade is intensifying. He said: 'Slashing business rates relief for pubs from 75% to 40% this year has landed the sector with an extra £215 million in tax bills. 'For a small pub, that's a leap in the average bill from £3,938 to £9,451 – a 140% increase. The combination of soaring business rates, higher national insurance contributions, the rising national minimum wage and packaging taxes are all quietly draining profits until staying open becomes impossible. Wrexham owners' 'legacy' in 2035 Women's World Cup plan
Football Association of Wales (FAW) chief executive Noel Mooney has revealed the "legacy" role of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in their 2035 Women's World Cup plan. The United Kingdom is the sole bidder to host an expanded 48-team tournament in 2035 - and the FAW has targeted two venues among the 16 stadiums planned. The FAW wants one in the south of the country - probably Cardiff City Stadium rather than Welsh rugby's Principality Stadium home - and one in the north, Wrexham's redeveloped Stok Cae Ras home. Wrexham's Hollywood owners Reynolds and McElhenney are seeking to expand the Red Dragons' stadium, with a proposed 7,750-seater Kop stand taking capacity to around 18,000. The pair - who were at the Stok Cae Ras on Saturday to watch newly-promoted Wrexham play their first home game in the Championship - said in May 2024 that development on all four sides of the ground could lead to "between 45,000 and 55,000 people in there". "The Kop development is a significant first step and the vision for the stadium is incredible," Mooney told the PA news agency. "What Ryan and Rob are doing is amazing. They are looking to invest in the stadium and build up the Cae Ras, which is the oldest international ground in the world, and there is a potential north star for them. "The city and the club have a chance to bring a World Cup to north Wales. What a story that would be. What a legacy for Ryan and Rob to leave Wrexham." Reynolds and McElhenney 'don't make football decisions' Wrexham AFC West Brom beat Wrexham to maintain winning start The FAW and Wrexham held talks over the Women's World Cup last week and Wales will host the 2026 European Under-19 Championship next summer. All games will be played in the north at Bangor, Colwyn Bay, Deeside, Denbigh, Deeside and Wrexham, with the Stok Cae Ras hosting the final. "It's our 150th anniversary next year, we were founded in Wrexham, and the story is very powerful for us," added Mooney, who said the FAW will launch a 10-year strategy for Welsh football in 2026. "The impact of Ryan and Rob has been manna from heaven for us, the timing of it. "We've been very fortunate over the last few years to get to a men's World Cup, first women's Euros, and have our young teams starting to qualify for major championships." "That has coincided with Ryan and Rob coming in." Under Reynolds and McElhenney Wrexham have risen from the National League to the Championship with three successive promotions, and manager Phil Parkinson has been able to spend around £20m on player recruitment this summer, including Wales internationals Nathan Broadhead, Kieffer Moore and Danny Ward. "Wrexham has already started collecting a lot of our national team players, and will produce lots of players for us in the future with their investment in youth development and academy," noted Mooney. "There is a symbiotic relationship there where we can create a lot of value for each other. "People all over the world are talking about Wrexham and that inspires partners like Fifa, commercial bodies and governments to get involved." The UK's formal bid for the 2035 Women's World Cup will be submitted in November and likely to be approved by Fifa next year, with all four home nations automatically qualifying for the tournament.
