Kendrick Lamar Replaces Drake At No. 1 On A Billboard Chart

For the past year, Kendrick Lamar has been beating Drake left and right. He first ended a rap feud between the two with "Not Like Us," which has become perhaps the biggest hit of his career and was easily declared the top tune among all the diss tracks the two aimed at one another over a short span of time. Lamar's album GNX and its singles have kept many of Drake's releases at bay for the past several months. This week, Lamar scores another win on a Billboard ranking, stopping Drake in his tracks yet again. Lamar is in charge of the Rhythmic Airplay chart this week, as he rises to the summit with "Peekaboo," his collaboration with AZChike. Last frame, the tune sat at No. 4, and now it jumps to first place, becoming another champion for Lamar in its fourteenth frame on the tally. Lamar collects his eleventh No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay tally as "Peekaboo" climbs. Over the course of his career, he has landed 20 top 10s and 35 total appearances on the radio list. "Peekaboo" is another huge single taken from GNX, one of several that have hit No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay radio tally. Previous focus tracks from the project like "Squabble Up," "Luther" with SZA and "TV Off' with Lefty Gunplay have all spent time in first place. Lamar has been on quite the winning streak lately, as he's also added new No. 1s with "30 for 30" alongside SZA, and "Not Like Us," his longest-running ruler. All six of his tunes have dominated the ranking over the past year or so. Last week, Drake's "Nokia" was in charge of the Rhythmic Airplay tally, and now it dips to the runner-up rung. The Canadian hip-hop superstar made history just a few days ago when "Nokia" ruled, as it became his milestone fortieth No. 1 on the list. That's a landmark no other artist has come even close to. Amazingly, Drake claims more No. 1s than Lamar has total appearances on the Rhythmic Airplay chart. So while Lamar may be winning at the moment, Drake may be the true champion here.

AZ Chike Wants To Collect 'West Coast Infinity Stones'

AZ Chike is 'one of them ones,' and when listening to his music, he knows it. The Los Angeles-bred rapper is rapidly rising after a breakout 2024 with an alley-oop from Kendrick Lamar after delivering a standout feature on the chart-topping GNX album. While the moment catalyzes his rap career, the Warner Records signee is not new to the game or even to mainstream rap features, as he was featured on ScHoolboy Q's 2024 Blue Lips album, signifying his support from Hip-Hop veterans. Now, as his star power expands, AZ Chike hopes to keep collecting 'West Coast Infinity Stones.' Being supported by the aforementioned Black Hippy members is seemingly fate for the 'What X2' performer — who shares with VIBE that he was given a figurative stamp in the womb from DJ Quik — as he explains his desire to link up with some of the industry's biggest pioneers from the Golden State, also naming Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre. 'The thing with DJ Quik is, my mama put me on all the gangsta sh*t growing up. She was like a dope girl in the '90s,' he explains. 'DJ Quik was one of her favorite artists. She went to one of his shows, and I don't think he ended up performing in the venue or something. Long story short, he hopped and started performing on top of the limo. At the time, she's pregnant with me. He's rapping, and he rubs her stomach while she's pregnant with me. I haven't been able to tell him that. But my manager sent me a video of him recording himself when Kendrick was performing 'Peek-A-Boo' at the Super Bowl, and it was like a full circle moment.' Further in the conversation, the rising rapper added the names of additional artists outside of California Hip-Hop with whom he'd like to connect creatively. 'Future for sure,' exclaims the 29-year-old. 'Teddy Swims, for sure. Oh, man. I like Smino a lot, too. His sh*t is very cold and he can rap. He can rap. Doechii, for sure.' AZ Chike's horizon continues to expand as he recalls, 'I got to get some UK artists in there too. I think Dave is dope from the UK…and honorable mention EST Gee, his sh*t got me in a chokehold right now.' Still, the 'Big Dawg' rapper remains loyal to his home turf, and makes it clear when explaining the unreleased snippet heard at the end of the 'Whatx2' music video. 'It was a flare being shot in the air,' AZ Chike declares. 'I wouldn't even say a fair warning because I'm not here to play fair.' He continues to boast, 'But it goes for everybody. Anybody who got something to say about what's going on now for the West Coast, just tread lightly.' Check out more from VIBE's interview with AZ Chike below. Drake Breaks With Tradition On The Radio With Multiple Rising Hits

Drake earns three rising hits from Some Sexy Songs for You, but Kendrick Lamar outshines him with ... More four from GNX and replaces himself at No. 1. LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 30: Drake speaks onstage during Drake's Till Death Do Us Part rap battle on October 30, 2021 in Long Beach, California. (Photo by) Drake has spent more than a decade dominating nearly every Billboard ranking there is. It's not unusual to see his name appear multiple times on a single tally, especially when he has a new project out. But this week, he's doing something slightly different, even for him. While he often spreads out his hits, selecting one single to focus on for each radio format – as is common music industry practice – he's currently gaining ground with several tracks from the same project. All of the wins that belong to Drake on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart this frame come from his recent collaborative effort Some Sexy Songs 4 U, created with fellow musician PartyNextDoor, and they're all on the way up. 'Give Me a Hug,' one of the standout solo cuts from Some Sexy Songs 4 U, improves from No. 10 to No. 8. Just behind it, 'Nokia' rockets from No. 36 to No. 28. Lower on the ranking, 'Somebody Loves Me,' which features PartyNextDoor, steps up from No. 37 to No. 31 this period. None of the tracks from Some Sexy Songs 4 U that are currently charting on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay list have been around for long. 'Give Me a Hug' is the longest-running hit, and it has only spent four weeks on the ranking. The other two—'Nokia' and 'Somebody Loves Me'—both debuted just one frame ago, though they may stick around for weeks to come as they rise. While Drake is soaring with three tracks from Some Sexy Songs 4 U, his frequent chart rival Kendrick Lamar also fills multiple spaces on the same radio list — and he actually manages to outdo his fellow hip-hop superstar. Lamar currently claims four spots on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, mostly thanks to tunes from his new album GNX. 'Luther,' the set's current single, holds at No. 2 this week. 'TV Off,' a fan-favorite with Lefty Gunplay, slips slightly from No. 1 to No. 3. Two more cuts also appear on the same tally at the same time, as 'Squabble Up' holds steady at No. 11, while 'Peekaboo,' which credits AZChike, debuts at No. 35. Perhaps the most impressive chart move connected to Lamar this frame is that he replaces himself at No. 1. 'TV Off' loses its crown – but it's '30 for 30,' another smash he's credited on, that takes its place. The song, another joint effort with SZA, bolts from No. 5 to No. 1.
