AZ Chike Wants To Collect 'West Coast Infinity Stones'

Yahoo20-05-2025

AZ Chike is 'one of them ones,' and when listening to his music, he knows it. The Los Angeles-bred rapper is rapidly rising after a breakout 2024 with an alley-oop from Kendrick Lamar after delivering a standout feature on the chart-topping GNX album.
While the moment catalyzes his rap career, the Warner Records signee is not new to the game or even to mainstream rap features, as he was featured on ScHoolboy Q's 2024 Blue Lips album, signifying his support from Hip-Hop veterans. Now, as his star power expands, AZ Chike hopes to keep collecting 'West Coast Infinity Stones.'
Being supported by the aforementioned Black Hippy members is seemingly fate for the 'What X2' performer — who shares with VIBE that he was given a figurative stamp in the womb from DJ Quik — as he explains his desire to link up with some of the industry's biggest pioneers from the Golden State, also naming Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre.
'The thing with DJ Quik is, my mama put me on all the gangsta sh*t growing up. She was like a dope girl in the '90s,' he explains.
'DJ Quik was one of her favorite artists. She went to one of his shows, and I don't think he ended up performing in the venue or something. Long story short, he hopped and started performing on top of the limo. At the time, she's pregnant with me. He's rapping, and he rubs her stomach while she's pregnant with me. I haven't been able to tell him that. But my manager sent me a video of him recording himself when Kendrick was performing 'Peek-A-Boo' at the Super Bowl, and it was like a full circle moment.'
Further in the conversation, the rising rapper added the names of additional artists outside of California Hip-Hop with whom he'd like to connect creatively.
'Future for sure,' exclaims the 29-year-old. 'Teddy Swims, for sure. Oh, man. I like Smino a lot, too. His sh*t is very cold and he can rap. He can rap. Doechii, for sure.'
AZ Chike's horizon continues to expand as he recalls, 'I got to get some UK artists in there too. I think Dave is dope from the UK…and honorable mention EST Gee, his sh*t got me in a chokehold right now.'
Still, the 'Big Dawg' rapper remains loyal to his home turf, and makes it clear when explaining the unreleased snippet heard at the end of the 'Whatx2' music video.
'It was a flare being shot in the air,' AZ Chike declares. 'I wouldn't even say a fair warning because I'm not here to play fair.'
He continues to boast, 'But it goes for everybody. Anybody who got something to say about what's going on now for the West Coast, just tread lightly.'

Jason Sudeikis remembers 'incredible influence' of uncle George Wendt: 'An amazing guy'

Jason Sudeikis remembers 'incredible influence' of uncle George Wendt: 'An amazing guy' Show Caption Hide Caption 'Cheers' actor George Wendt dies at 76 George Wendt earned six consecutive best supporting actor Emmy nominations playing Norm Peterson on NBC's "Cheers." To the world, George Wendt will always be Norm. But for Jason Sudeikis, he was just Uncle George. Less than two weeks after the beloved "Cheers" star's death, Sudeikis opened up about the impact of his late uncle during an appearance at Big Slick Celebrity Weekend, an annual fundraising event for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 30. Wendt died "peacefully in his sleep" on May 20 at the age of 76. "He was an amazing guy," Sudeikis, 49, said. "With regard to my Uncle George, I mean, there's that old saying of, 'Don't meet your heroes,' usually because 'they let you down,' I assume, is the back half of that statement. But he's not one of those people." 'A well-loved friend': George Wendt, beloved bar regular Norm on 'Cheers,' dies at 76 Wendt was best known for his portrayal of the beer-quaffing barfly Norm Peterson on the classic NBC sitcom, and Sudeikis reflected that the actor's everyman charm wasn't limited to the TV screen. "He's as fun and kind and as warm as any character he played on television or in films," the Kansas-bred actor said. "He was an incredible influence to me, both as someone that blazed the trail being from the Midwest and teaching me that acting was a career you could actually have, if you really care about it." George Wendt remembered: 'Cheers' stars Ted Danson, John Ratzenberger and Rhea Perlman pay tribute Aside from Wendt's commitment to the craft, Sudeikis added that the Illinois-born actor's humility was just as much of an inspiration. "He also always kept connected to his family, to his roots, both in Chicago, of course, where he's from, but then also the time he spent here," said Sudeikis, referring to Kansas City, where Wendt attended college. "We miss him greatly, and I love him dearly." Contributing: Bryan Alexander and KiMi Robinson, USA TODAY

Netflix Tudum 2025 Recap: 'Squid Game' And Other K-Culture Moments

Netflix pulled out all the stops for its Tudum 2025 live event on Saturday, May 31st at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Named after the familiar sound heard at the start of every Netflix film or series, Tudum LIVE—which was first held in 2020 in São Paulo, Brazil—is the streamer's biggest fan event. This year Tudum was livestreamed exclusively on Netflix for the first time ever and featured not only Hollywood A-listers offering sneak peeks into upcoming Netflix titles but also a ton of Korean content for audiences to enjoy. Here are some of the things that K-culture fans were able to experience at Netflix's Tudum event this year: Even before Saturday's live event, celebrations started on Friday evening with a 'Global Creator Tudum Kick-Off Party' at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles, where hundreds of influencers from around the world, along with a few journalists, were invited to experience live performances and various activities centered on popular Netflix shows like When Life Gives You Tangerines and, of course, Squid Game. Attendees had the chance to film themselves posing against the canola field backdrop from When Life Gives You Tangerines or jumping high into the air like a giddy Thanos with the aid of a Squid Game trampoline. Guests also enjoyed coffee and Squid Game-themed sweets while watching aerial acrobats perform to soundtracks from Squid Game and other hit Netflix shows. Prior to the start of its Tudum live event, Netflix hosted an immersive red carpet outside the Kia Forum that featured fan activations and installations from its most popular shows. Squid Game arguably had the biggest presence there, with a giant statue of the infamous Young-hee doll towering over the red carpet, photo opps inside a space resembling the show's colorful staircases, and pink guards taking photos with fans in the crowd—some of whom were dressed up in green tracksuits or as Young-hee themselves. Squid Game actors who were spotted on the red carpet included Lee Jung-jae (Gi-Hun), Lee Byung-hun (Front Man), Park Sung-hoon (Hyun-ju), Kang Ae-sim (Geum-ja) and Choi Seung-hyun (Thanos). Anupam Tripathi, who played Ali Abdul in season 1 of Squid Game, was also present to interview some of the other Netflix stars there, including his fellow cast members. Saturday's two-hour live event, which was hosted by Sofia Carson, kicked off with—what else?—Netflix's biggest show ever, Squid Game. In a lively opening film sequence, the series' iconic pink guards were shown rappelling down the Hollywood sign and marching through the streets of Los Angeles before arriving at the Kia Forum, where they gave an electrifying dance performance in front of a live audience. Indian rapper Hanumankind then joined them onstage to perform his viral hit 'The Game Don't Stop,' which became the anthem to Squid Game's second season. Squid Game cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ae-sim and Choi Seung-hyun (aka T.O.P) appeared onstage to present the trailer for Squid Game season 3, which premieres on June 27th—but not before teaching the audience how to count down in Korean. Afterwards the live audience headed back outside for the Tudum afterparty, which featured sumptuous desserts, appetizers and mini-entrees (including some Korean bulgogi bowls in celebration of Squid Game) and free merchandise from other hit Netflix shows like Stranger Things and One Piece. While this year's Netflix Tudum festivities prominently showcased K-content and Korean culture, they weren't the sole highlights, of course. Saturday's live event also featured appearances by Hollywood stars like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Steven Yeun, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Adam Sandler, Guillermo del Toro, Oscar Isaac and many others who came out onstage to deliver sneak peeks into upcoming Netflix titles like The Rip, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Happy Gilmore 2 and Frankenstein. Audiences were also given exclusive previews of the upcoming seasons of One Piece, Stranger Things and Wednesday. Backstreet Boy AJ McLean also made a surprise appearance to introduce Netflix's upcoming singing competition series Building the Band, slated to premiere this year. Lady Gaga—who'll be guest starring in Part 2 of season 2 of Wednesday—closed out the live event with a show-stopping medley of her songs, including "Zombieboy," "Bloody Mary" and "Abracadabra.' Well, there's the fact that the Netflix Tudum live event took place at a venue named after a South Korean car company (Kia America, the U.S. branch of South Korean auto manufacturer Kia, is the official automotive partner for the Forum). The Netflix Tudum live event also overlapped with other major events featuring K-culture, including the sold-out Stray Kids concert (which happened right across the street at SoFi Stadium), a concert held by the legendary Korean singer Baek Ji-young, and the annual Head in the Clouds music festival, whose lineup this year included many Korean artists like the K-pop icons G-Dragon and 2NE1. It's a K-content world, and we're all just living in it.

Could Diddy Have Played James Brown In ‘Get On Up' Biopic Over Chadwick Boseman?

During a pivotal moment in Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ongoing sex trafficking trial, a surprising detail emerged about the Hip-Hop mogul's past acting ambitions. According to the testimony of his former assistant under the pseudonym 'Mia,' he once auditioned to portray James Brown in the 2014 biopic Get on Up. The role ultimately went to Chadwick Boseman. The revelation surfaced during cross-examinations on Monday (June 2) where Mia accused Combs of rape and sexual assault. As part of the evidence presented in court, prosecutors showed a series of text messages exchanged between Mia and Combs. In one message, dated August 2020 — just after Boseman's passing — Mia wrote to Diddy, 'Thinking of you with Chadwick Boseman,' referencing Diddy's attempt to secure the role of the late music legend, James Brown. Mia also mentioned that she still had his audition tape, which she described as a full-scale 'production' they worked on for a week. Other text messages recalled moments that included the film's producer and Rock and Roll legend, Mick Jagger, allegedly flirting with her. She also mentioned a high-stakes poker game between Diddy and Leonardo DiCaprio, where Diddy allegedly remarked: 'That Titanic motherf**ker doesn't know sh*t. He won $10,000. I won $650,000.' On a more serious tip, Mia testified that during her eight years working for Diddy, she endured repeated physical and sexual abuse. 'The highs were really high, and the lows were really low,' she recalled on the stand. She described the alleged rape as 'the worst and most shameful thing that's ever happened to me,' adding that she was 'brainwashed' and 'constantly seeking his approval,' even after no longer working for him. Among the accusations, Mia also claimed the 55-year-old once slammed her arm in a door, and threw her against a wall while once physically assaulting then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. She also added that he once forced her to take ketamine during a trip to Burning Man, which is a 'global ecosystem of artists, makers, and community organizers who co-create art, events, and local initiatives around the world,' that takes place in the Nevada desert. Mia claimed that she now suffers from 'severe PTSD' as a result of her time working for him. Diddy, who has maintained his innocence, is currently facing multiple charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
