Dead defaulters: LESCO to provide installment facility

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has decided to recover dues worth billions of rupees by providing installment facility to dead defaulters. A letter has been issued for the recovery of Rs33 billion in installments from defaulters. Despite the disconnection, it may be noted, the defaulters have not paid the dues. Accordingly, Director Customer Services Abbas Ali sent a letter for online installments. According to the issued letter, an online link should be issued for recovery from dead defaulters, and only online installments will be provided to the consumers. It was directed to connect the online link to banks, NADRA and other institutions. Billions of rupees of LESCO were lost due to disconnection of consumers' connections. It was decided to provide installments for recovery of billions of rupees. LESCO has disconnected the connections of dead defaulters and taken possession of their properties. Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu: TDAP organises exporters training programme

KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) successfully conducted three impactful sessions of the National Exporters Training Programme (NETP) in Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu from 16th to 19th July 2025. The programme aimed to equip potential exporters from the Northern Areas with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools required to effectively access international markets. Organized in collaboration with the Gilgit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gilgit Women Chamber of Commerce, and the Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO), the training sessions brought together over 100 participants, including artisans, women entrepreneurs, and manufacturers. The events commenced with welcome remarks by Ashfaq Ahmed, Vice President FPCCI, and Abbas Ali, CEO KADO, who appreciated TDAP's initiative and emphasized the need for inclusive trade development in the region. Nazir Ali, Deputy Director/In-Charge TDAP GB, outlined TDAP's initiatives for product development, market access, and institutional support for exporters. Gang of drug peddlers busted in Chennai

The Greater Chennai City Police has busted a major drug peddling gang consisting of a woman from Manipur and seized methamphetamine, a gun, bullets and mobile phones from them. To curb drug trafficking in Greater Chennai, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) was formed in August last year under the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, The ANIU collects intelligence on ganja and synthetic drugs in and around Chennai, develops informants, identifies drug offenders and synthetic drug networks. Following recent inputs received by the ANIU, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar and another special team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Washermenpet, conducted an operation and nabbed six persons who were near the railway yard as they were moving in suspicious manner. On searching, police seized methamphetamine concealed with them. Police registered a case against them under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS)Act and arrested the six who have been identified as Mina alias Amina, 46 of Redhills, her nephew Abbas Ali, 30 of Tondiarpet, their associates namely- Mohammed Ali, 25 of Thiruvotriyur, Mohammed Azar, 26 of Chepauk, Riyas Khan, 26 of Melakottai, Ramanathapuram and Parvez Hussain, 26 of Selaiyur. Rs 35 lakh worth 700 grams of methamphetamine, one gun, 15 bullets, six mobile phones were seized from them. A senior police officer said, 'Our investigation revealed that the female suspect Mina is a native of Moreh town in Manipur and settled in Red Hills. She was running a roadside shop here. With the help of her son Aslam, she sourced the contraband in Moreh and smuggled it by train to the Chennai city. Further she supplied to her nephew Abbas Ali for distribution and supplying to others in Tambaram, Royapuram, Redhills and Triplicane. They sold the contraband for Rs 5000 per gram, said the officer. Further investigation is on to trace the origin of the gun that was seized from them. All six were remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the city police arrested seven persons for allegedly possessing and selling painkiller tablets illegally and seized 3,652 nitrazepam and tapedental tablets in Kilpauk, Koyambedu and Adambakkam. They procured the tablets from Mumbai and supplied them in the city, said police.

Tamil Nadu rape survivor testifies in court after 10 years, abuser gets life term

A rape survivor from Tamil Nadu who was sexually assaulted at the age of 12 appeared in a Special Court in Chennai to testify against her attacker. The survivor, now 22 years old, faced the man who had raped her, leading to his conviction and was abducted in 2015, by the accused, Abbas Ali, who was the son-in-law of the owner of the house in Chennai where she and her family lived. Ali kidnapped her on February 7 and took her to Dindigul, where he raped her and then abandoned police located the 12-year-old two days later after her parents lodged a missing person's complaint. Ali was arrested following an investigation. The court order, which came out recently, detailed Ali's crime and how it affected the child and her family. The aftermath of the assault was devastating. Living in fear of the accused, the survivor's family fled the city and relocated to a remote village, adopting new identities. The child dropped out of school and, according to reports, was never able to lead a normal officials from MKB Nagar traced the survivor and her mother. They were produced before Justice Rajalakshmi of the Special Court hearing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The survivor bravely recounted the horrors inflicted upon her by Abbas Ali, who is now 51 years hearing the arguments, Justice Rajalakshmi delivered the verdict on April 3. Abbas Ali was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping, and to life imprisonment under the Pocso Act. He was also fined Rs 10,000 under IPC and Rs 25,000 under the Pocso provisions. The court further directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to pay Rs 15 lakh in compensation to the survivor within 30 days of receiving the court by Disha Maloo IN THIS STORY#Tamil Nadu#Chennai
