Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu: TDAP organises exporters training programme
The programme aimed to equip potential exporters from the Northern Areas with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools required to effectively access international markets.
Organized in collaboration with the Gilgit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gilgit Women Chamber of Commerce, and the Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO), the training sessions brought together over 100 participants, including artisans, women entrepreneurs, and manufacturers.
The events commenced with welcome remarks by Ashfaq Ahmed, Vice President FPCCI, and Abbas Ali, CEO KADO, who appreciated TDAP's initiative and emphasized the need for inclusive trade development in the region.
Nazir Ali, Deputy Director/In-Charge TDAP GB, outlined TDAP's initiatives for product development, market access, and institutional support for exporters. Ms Khushnoor Deedar, Founding Presindent Women CCI Gilgit also participated in the session.

Dead defaulters: LESCO to provide installment facility
LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has decided to recover dues worth billions of rupees by providing installment facility to dead defaulters. A letter has been issued for the recovery of Rs33 billion in installments from defaulters. Despite the disconnection, it may be noted, the defaulters have not paid the dues. Accordingly, Director Customer Services Abbas Ali sent a letter for online installments. According to the issued letter, an online link should be issued for recovery from dead defaulters, and only online installments will be provided to the consumers. It was directed to connect the online link to banks, NADRA and other institutions. Billions of rupees of LESCO were lost due to disconnection of consumers' connections. It was decided to provide installments for recovery of billions of rupees. LESCO has disconnected the connections of dead defaulters and taken possession of their properties. Pakistan, Finland agree to promote trade, cooperation
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan–Finland Parliamentary Friendship Group convened consultative session on Tuesday to promote bilateral trade and cooperation. The meeting was held under the convenership of Dr Sharmila Faruqui, with the objective of deepening bilateral engagement through trade facilitation, institutional collaboration, and enhanced parliamentary cooperation. The session was attended by Hannu Ripatti, Ambassador of Finland to Pakistan; Bilal Haye, Ambassador of Pakistan to Sweden (who joined virtually); senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce; as well as representatives of the Pakistan–Finland Business Council. Distinguished Members of the National Assembly, including Shaista Pervaiz, Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, and Farah Naz Akbar, actively participated in the proceedings. From the Pakistan–Finland Business Council, Shahzad Sabir, Chairman, and Pervez Haroon, Vice Chairman, were in attendance. Convener of the Pakistan–Finland PFG underscored the group's potential to serve as a vital platform for enhancing people-to-people exchanges and acting as a bridge to address the challenges faced by the business communities of both countries. Deliberations focused on; addressing challenges in trade and export facilitation, promoting collaboration in priority sectors such as mining, SME partnerships, and education, exploring avenues to enhance bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and business sector participation. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce reaffirmed their commitment to advancing sector-specific proposals through coordinated institutional support. Ambassador Ripatti suggested the submission of concrete proposals and recommendations to address existing challenges and reiterated Finland's interest in fostering long-term commercial and parliamentary cooperation with Pakistan. The meeting also considered the prospect of a high-level parliamentary exchange in the near future. Participants agreed to sustain momentum through follow-up engagements in both virtual and in-person formats. The session concluded with a shared resolve to translate mutual goodwill and growing interest into structured collaboration, supported by proactive coordination among parliamentary, diplomatic, and business stakeholders. FBR orders penalties for delayed duty payment after goods auction
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the Collectors of Customs to impose penalties on importers involved in unnecessary delay in payment of duty & taxes after auction of goods at ports. The FBR issued instructions to the Collectors of Customs here on Tuesday to enforce enforcement provisions of the Customs Act 1969. Tax authorities have strictly directed the heads of customs in the field formations to enforce provisions of the Finance Act 2025. Collectors of Customs were informed section 82 of the Customs Act provides a mechanism for auction of goods not cleared or warehoused or transhipped or removed from the port. To avoid port congestion and unnecessary delay in payment of duty & taxes, penalties have been provided to cater different situations arising at the ports. However, the Collector of Customs in unavoidable circumstances may waive-off the penalty. The FBR has also directed the Chief Collector of Customs, Appraisement (South), Karachi is directed to ensure development of the system accordingly in WeBoC. Senior FBR officials also informed Collectors of Customs that amendment has been made in sub-section (3) of Section 179 of the Customs Act, 1969 whereby the time period for deciding the cases related to clause (s) of section 2 and for cases where goods are lying at sea-port, airport or dry port has been enhanced from 30 days to 45 days. Amendment has also been made in sub-section (4) whereby Board can regulate the system of adjudication including transfer of cases and extension of time-limit as deemed appropriate after reasons to be recorded in writing. The de-minimise limit for courier parcels has been revised/reduced from Rs 5,000 to Rs1,000 to check misuse of the facility particularly for e-commerce. The chief collector of customs, Airports, Islamabad and all collectors of Customs Airports are directed to ensure strict implementation, FBR officials added. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
