Kufra Municipality: Number of Sudanese refugees equals local population, and support provided is negligible
The Mayor of Kufra, Abdul Rahman Aqoub, said that the city continues to receive Sudanese refugees on a daily basis due to the ongoing war in Sudan, noting the lack of accurate statistics or fixed numbers due to the constant influx.
In a press statement, Aqoub explained that the support received from some organizations is "negligible," while the city's residing refugees exceeding 61,000, which is equivalent to the original population of Kufra.
He emphasized that most refugees rely on local aid for food and medicine. He pointed out that the electricity crisis has exacerbated the suffering of refugees living on farms, with 90% of them lacking adequate shelter. He also noted the lack of medicine and scarcity of health services, amid frequent deaths and loss of life in the desert, especially during summer. News Tagged: Al-Kufra sudanese refugees
